  1. <snip>

I sincerely hope that TGR does contact the casino. If the casino gives the go ahead, then all is cool. If not, then choosing an alternate plan would be wisest...

Cornerstone and I have been discussing a possible alternative, a "Boys Night Out" at Hooters in Temecula. I wonder how many SD people might be interested in that?

I'd fly in for some hooters action. Umm......that's sounds bad. Strike that.

    (ahem)

I'd fly in for some H :):) TERS action.

  2. Snake and I have concluded that SDCET has gotten soft and lazy. It's been a couple weeks and there's still no find on La Grenouille, and only one team (Toby's Gang) has found the whole series (sans The Frog) we placed in the Santa Ysabel Open Space Preserve over Memorial Day weekend. Wassup with that?!? There's about a dozen caches out here to be bagged, and the atmosphere is quite bucolic. Plenty of room for more random containers to fall off your backpacks, as well. In fact, there's an entire loop trail yet to be explored...

Perhpas, I can find new ways to motivate the SDCET.

Don't make me come out there and FTF it! Cause you know I will. Don't doubt it!!! :)

And that one IS north of the 56, J&J! :)

  3. What do you all think of this type of flashmob event.

Looks like Ramius has weighed in on this. Check the cache page...

I'm just going to say...bad idea all the way around on this one. Plus...this IS tribal lands. Tribal laws apply and

I'm guessing the Team Geo-Rangers didn't even speak to the Luiseno tribal gov't about this, much less the casino.

I'd expect the courtesy of asking the tribe first would be a better way of approaching something like this.

  4. Also, there appears to be a direct page to GPS loading tool without the need for all that tedious mucking about with pocket queries. Too bad I can't install the GPS software on my work computer. Stupid lack of IT Admin priviliges!!!

I can't say that I'm too pleased with the coord converter. It's nice to have, but sad for some puzzlers out there. Fortunately, MGRS, Irish, and other more obscure reference geoids are not included.

And a big thanks to all who came out to the mini pizza non-event on Sunday. Great to see all you all again, and meet some other new faces in SD.

It's much too soon for "it" to start again... :anicute:

    :unsure::anibad::D OMG :D:D:D

:D "It" has started again... :D

Really? IT's just a harmless cache.... :anicute:

(my apologies to you coulrophobes out there.)

  6. And there is something called "My Friends"

    godfather_games.jpg

"What have I ever done to make you treat me so disrespectfully? Had you come to me in friendship, then this micro-cache that ruined your caching would be suffering this very day. And that by chance if an honest man such as yourself should have DNFs, then they would become my DNFs. And then they would fear you."

    "Be my friend ---- Godfather?"

    "This I cannot do."

    -----------------------------------

  7. I appreciate all the obsequiousness. I really do. :anitongue:

Let me finish the designs and get the cachepages ready. Do my final scouting, and then (if needed) I will contact my usual cadre of cache adopters if Admin insists on a Local maintainer.

I've just noticed a rash of logs on my old puzzles of ...."well...I got a hint from so-and so" or "Oh...i just tagged along with so-and-so". "So and so did the mental work and I paid for gas...."

THere used to be a time when the folks once they got the answers would clam up faster than my prom date --:laughing: uhh....when other's would come asking for hints. (Team Taskmaster where are you???!?!?). There was a pride in seeing others struggle through it. That and the schadenfreude of course.

    You earned that smiley, dag-nabbit!

    </rant>

Oooh. Gotta go. Second half of the Suns game is on.

Anywho....I appreciate all the brown-nosin....err....help from all you all out there. I'll be in touch.

  8. There is...or was...or will be. Due to recent upheval in life I no longer possess the graphics files that I used. But I'm working on retrieval as we speak.

Taking sizing requests. Duncan? XL? Tom? XXXL? :anitongue:

And as I recall, only FM and Duncan! can claim to have found all my SD puzzles, maybe John&Jess as well.

  9. Congrats to TT for 5000 Finds!!

Oh, my God. Oh, my God. I'm sorry. This moment is so much bigger than me. This moment is for mark71mark, eporkchop, and WE4NCS. It's for the folks that stand beside me, FlagMan, Angela Bassett, ShadowAce, Vivica Fox. And it's for every nameless, faceless geocacher and NPB that now has a chance because this door tonight has been opened. Thank you. I'm so honored. I'm so honored. And I thank the Academy for choosing me to be the vessel for which this blessing might flow. Thank you.

I want to thank my manager. He's been with me for twelve long years and has fought every fight and you've loved me when I've been up, but more importantly you've loved me when I've been down. You have been a manager, a friend, and the best person I've ever known. Really. And I love you very much.

I want to thank my mom who's given me the strength to fight every single day, to be who I want to be and given me the courage to dream, that this dream might be happening and possible for me. I love you, Mom, so much. Thank you.

I want to thank Lions Gate. Thank you. Mike Paseornek, Tom Ortenberg for making sure everybody knew about this little tiny milestone. Thank you for believing in me. Our fearless leader Jeremy, you're a genius. You're a genius. This geocaching experience was magical for me because of you. You believed in me; you trusted me and you gently guided me to very scary places. I thank you. I want to thank the producers. Thank you for giving me this chance, for believing that I could do it. And now tonight I have this. Thank you.

I want to thank my agents -- CAA, Josh Lieberman especially. I have to thank my agents -- Kevin Huvane, thank you. Thank you for never kicking me out and sending me somewhere else. Thank you.

I, I, I, who else? I have so many people that I know I need to thank. My lawyers -- Neil Meyer, thank you. Okay, wait a minute, don't cue that music! I got to take...five thousand caches here!! Ok. I got to take this time! I got to thank my lawyer, for making this deal. I need to thank last and not least, I have to thank wimseyguy for putting me at my very cache and believing in me. Oprah Winfrey for being the best role model anyone could have. Harvey Weinstein, thank you. And thank you to Clifford Stoll. Thank you so much for being my mentors and believing in me.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

  10.

That would have been great for TT, back in the day, to figure out where he hid all those dang puzzle caches...

That gizmo still might be of use for FM on or about Memorial day weekend as I'm tentatively planning on checking/maintaining/replacing all my SD caches and maybe....just maybe if you're all nice...dropping a couple more TT/Cow Spot specials on you.

(Frankly...you all have had it too easy for the last year and a half.)

  11. Heh...here's a log that should bring back some memories for all you old skool SD cachers.

This is from a new cache called "El Ahorcado" in Tucson.

    El Ahorcado

As I recall, Duncan! once placed a cache and then camped out for my arrival to grill me for puzzle hints.

They've not reached that point yet out here.

  12. So as you all know, I travel quite a bit for work. I was just in San Antonio, TX with some customers for a conference. We all went geocaching and had some great experiences. Team ASU (their caching name) are totally hooked now. Anyways....flying back on Southwest Airlines in reading the airline's Spirit Magazine, we discovered that GPS receivers are an approved electronic to use while in flight.

Hmmmmm....so we turned it on....GOT A SIGNAL.......and tracked our way back home. I have a Garmin 60CS and we were able to see what major cities we were flying over and how fast we were going. I think the elevation thingy was off...it mentioned that we were 631ft up........(we've got problems if that's the case) and we were flying at 421MPH. It was really cool.

Anyway, thought it was worth a mention. Make sure you're on a window seat and have the GPS right next to the window to gain a signal. Honestly don't know if this would interfere with plane electronics...but as it was mentioned in the Airline magazine, maybe they're thinking we wouldn't get a signal? Dunno?

    thoughts?

I flew from the east coast recently on an airline (Delta?) that allowed GPS use during flight. I've always wanted to know what I was seeing below me and it was fascinating following our flight path. Having the GPS track us across the country was awesome and my entire row enjoyed it :(. I was surprised to find that our pilot seemed to follow the interstates from New Mexico into San Diego (yes, the 'stay on roads' feature was turned off :) ).

As for the elevation thingy, I'm not sure about the 60CS, but it seems a 'unique' feature of the 60CSx and the 76CSx is that they both use the barometric altimeter for the elevation data display and there apparently is no way to make it use the calculated altitude. That means that the cabin pressure "altitude" is likely what you were seeing displayed. You can see the calculated altitude by keying 'menu/GPS elevation" from the satellite page. That readout is useful for calibrating the altimeter if you don't know the correct altitude or pressure.

Heh....I did this a couple of years ago on a flight across country. The stewardess (or flight attendant for the Doublespeakers out there) got into a snit about whether it was allowable during flight. I said it was and asked her to check with the pilot. Pilot said it was all good. Took these funny photos, though:

  13. Sitting here in Minneapolis-St. Paul airport, waiting to get on a plane home, but the airport is shut down and planes are stacked higher than the odds against Marky Mark winning the Oscar tomorrow.

    So...yeah. Bored.

Bonus points to those who can figure out what Cow Spots is doing when we visited Fargo yesterday.

Oh yah. Real good now. Betcha PW's done this.

  14. Well...I'm planning on leaving Tucson sometime Sat. morning and hitting all the stuff on the 8 out past Casa Grande and Gila Bend and being in Yuma in the afternoon. I'll stay over Sat. night, if anyone wants to get together that night. Don't know yet what Cow Spots or the other Tucson GCers are doing yet. But that's my plan and I'm sticking to it....for now.

  15. Well, I don't know Yuma as well as Tucson, but I've hit my fair share commuting between Tucson and San Diego. I'll give a shout out for:

    Biblical Tree (GCH083)

    Headache Avenue (GCMKFM)

Julieana's Band (GCH085) and the food is most excellent here!

    Mission: Impossible (GCMAJR)

    The Singing Skeleton (GCHKFC)

    Drums of the Past (GCGWD4)

Sea Shells TB Stop and Go!! (GCNWBC)

    White Cross (GCMZRZ)

And of course if you liked TT Nuisance#4, you'll love...Yuma Palms (GCM1D3)

I'm looking forward to A.T.M. myself. Jeepen Jumpers always has good ones.

    Hope that helps.

  16. In regards to the upcoming event in Yuma on the 11th of Feb., I know there was a certain contingent from SD headed out. (Flagman, PW, Trailgators, the Splashes and $kimmer). I just was curious if those who were coming out were planning on just making it a day trip or were going to come in the day before and bashing about Yuma and Mittry Lake? I was planning on coming out Saturday before, bashing about Yuma on Sat and staying over for the event on Sunday. Perhaps the SD crew might want to meet up before event? Anyone else besides the aformentioned folk coming out? Just a thought.

  17. Well...there is a broad range of caches for all types of cachers here. Some of the finest and most challenging hike-to caches are a short distance away. IMO, the best puzzles in AZ can be found about and in the Old Pueblo. And of course, the ubiquitous number-pumping urban micros are not lost out here.

Some good overall representative ones in Tucson I think are (in no particular order):

Petroglyphs and Rocks in Arraste Wash (GCJ5T7)

    Evergreen's Stories (GCGAG3)

    Bad Poetry (GCYE51)

    Sand Trout (GCJTGA)

    Buggy (GCHJ0A)

    School of Rock (GCQ76D)

    Pretty View Cache (GC5999)

    Pontatoc View (GCHVFW)

    Le Chiffre Indechiffrable (GCEA37)

    Memento (GCHFMA)

    Tumamoc Hill (GCB03F)

    Padre a los Indios (GCMGGG)

    Oni (GCVPHN)

    Swords into Plowshares (GCGWJ4)

    Giggles (GCHB6V)

    Goes to Eleven (GCW8VW)

    Penguins in Sonora (GCBFD5)

    Wasson Peak (GCCCB2)

Looking forward to seeing you all out here.

  18. We have been sworn to secrecy. If that's what the puzzle creator wants then that's fine with me. :P

Yes...I'd really prefer not to have the rampant pimping of previous finders for hints to my caches to happen. So...rein in those hints guys! But I know I can't prevent it.

Remember all you noobs who never met me in San Diego, you CAN, and I frankly encourage you all, to e-mail for help if your stuck on any of my caches. Even though most of them have been farmed out, I still watch all of them. I'm not adverse to helping guide you to where you need to go. But I won't just hand you the answer on a silver platter, which seems to me to be happening a lot, based on some of the previous logs.

Or of course, I still maintain my policy that if you ever meet me on the trail, I pretty much will answer any of your question in excruciatingly minute detail....even down the the parking spot you'll need, the metermaid schedule, and how Red '6' can be your best friend. Do note, that I will "hold audience" at the Yuma, AZ event in February, if 150 miles is worth it for you all  </shameless plug>.

Really. I'm not an ogre about this....I think.

Evil....yes. But really in the way you all need.

  19. Apparently the tradition is gone but they used to celebrate Alferd Packer Day at CU Boulder. The main event was a raw meat eating contest. I still have the commemorative t-shirts with such slogans as:

    • Tasting a New Generation
    • Where's the Beef?
    • Nothing Says Lovin' Like Someone in the Oven

Cool....someone else has the t-shirts too!!

Mine from Alferd Packer Day 1991 has Al dressed up like MC Hammer with the slogan "Please Hammer Don't Eat 'em (U Can't Cook This)."

and from 1992 has good ol' Alferd as Ray Charles with a riff on the old Pepsi slogan... "You Bit the Raw One, Baby. Uh huh!"

Yup..Alferd Packer Day (April 22) was cancelled by the wave of PC granolaidiots in Boulder in 1995.

I can't believe that they got rid of the raw meat eating contests. *sigh* I have to resign myself to watching PCU or Cannibal! The Musical, just to get a...flavour... of what once was great about America....the right to celebritize and celebrate a cannibal!

Who's up for some steak tartare?

  20. "Method" is better? Being snowed in so much does things to a man I suppose. Anyway, I'm glad to know that you "thought about it."

    44.gif

    shining.jpg

Yes....snowed-in in Colorado will get to you after awhile, won't it? The historical precedent is too strong.

How whack can those Coloradans get after the snows come??? Well....Alferd Packer is....get this...the OFFICIAL state cannibal of Colorado. Heck, even the student union cafeteria at CU Boulder is called (I am not kidding here) the "Alferd Packer Memorial Grill".

So what's the under/over as to when RocketMan starts talking to his finger saying 'redrum...redrum'

    Best of luck, RM!
