  1. I use a Magellan Meridian Platinum. It has many, many features that I use, and with the data cable, laptop (or Palm), makes a very nice car navigation system with an app like Destinator.
  2. I was out caching today, and couldn't find the cache. I went around and around and nothing. This is not typical, since the multi-cache first waypoints are a sign, which I found, almost 1/4 kilometer away. I got home and noticed that my GPS, Meridian Platinum, is showing the wrong coordinates. I cleared the GPS memory ("all") and calibrated. Still bad. Showing 48° 37.584N 009° 17.206E when I'm really at 48° 37.598N 009°17.088E. What should I do? The day is beatiful...I wanna cache. Thanks, Tom
  3. Never mind...read a little further in the forum and found the answer. Log him, them delete the log. The TB entry stays.
  4. Today, I activated my first travel bug, then proceeded out to put it in a cache. I had been to this cache before, though, it was logged as a DNF. I finally found it and placed my TB in there. When I edited my old log, it did not give me a travel bug section. When I veiw the bug, it says I have it. How do I get rid of it without making another log entry in the cache?
  5. I wish I could, but, the bank in Germany really screw you. First you have to purchase the checks...which are very expensive. Then you pay throught the *ss to write it in U.S. dollars. I'll just have to wait for CC's to become enabled. In the meantime, maybe you could accept credit cards to do the one-time yearly subscriptions without the automatic renewal. Just send an email to all that they have to re-subscribe every year until you finish your custom setup.
  6. This weekend, I am going out on hunt #2. Sweet!!! This time, I'm taking a friend who hasn't gone out yet. I got him signed up on the Geocaching.com site, and now, this posed a question in my head. "If two member goes caching together, who logs the find?" If both of us can, that's great. Otherwise, I'll definately let him log his first. Whats the opinion of the forum? Thanks, Tom Stuttgart, Germany
  7. Welcome to Geocaching. I am new too, have only gone out one 1 cache hunt. This weekend will be my second. Hope you have fun. Tom Stuttgart, Germany
  8. I think I may have figured this out...I think. Maybe their security is a little to good, if there is such a thing. But, it's prompting me for an Activation Code that will be on my CC statement, which I receive Jan. 1st. Until then I have a whooping spending limit of $0.00 Any thoughts?
  9. I want to become a member. I selected the PayPal "charge me $3/month" link. It sent me off to PayPal and I created an account. Then, it sent me back to the Geochaching website to enter in my Subscription ID. I don't have an ID. There are no transactions within Paypal for me either. Help...what do I do now? Start again?
  10. Sounds like it's a "must have" item since I live in Germany. Yes...?
  11. I sampled a MeriColor the other day. Compass was also bad when I was close. But, I just switched to the Long/Lat display and it put me right on top of it. Kind of felt like cheating.
  12. I just made my final desicion on which GPS to purchase. I am going to go with the MAGELLAN MERIDIAN PLATINUM GPS. Found a sweet deal for $242. I just read though, that if you don't add an SD Mem Card, you can't add routes. Or did I read this wrong. Don't plan to use any mapping functions now. Just Geocaching. Do I need memory?
  13. I am just a newbie, but, I thought I would share my 2 cents. It sounds like TB's should always be fun. If I got am email every week telling me I had one, then it wouldn't be fun anymore. Sometimes, things come up that are out of our control...like a business trip, an illness (or, God forbid, death) in the family, etc. Although, if I had my own active TB out there, I wouldn't want someone to hold it for a few weeks or simply forget that they had it. I think a polite email after a resonible amount of time is understandable, maybe 2 weeks or so. I think within the email, there should be something for the person to do to "Give Up" the TB. Let someone adopt him so he can continue his journeys. I've seen Adopt-A-Cache in the U.K.. Why not Adopt-A-Bug? I would drive to rescue the poor stranded TB.
  14. Well, your martian kinda looks like a tadpole too... A tadpole in armour at least! Cool!!! I think!?!
  15. How come I have "Tadpole" under my pic?
  16. I am new to TB's and would like to know if it's possible to make your own travel bug tags. I live in Germany, and getting them is difficult. Any help or ideas would be great. Maybe someone knows where I can get them locally... Tom Stuttgart, Germany
  17. I am a newbie with GeoCaching. Actually haven't even done one yet. I have a friends Magellan Meridian Color for the weekend and will try out this sport. In the meantime, I was also looking for a GPS to buy next week. I found the Magellan SportTrack. Looks like it's right up my alley...cheap!!! I would like to find out what all of you think of this model. Good or bad experiences, etc. Or, recommend another for my first one. Thanks, Tom Stuttgart, Germany
