  1. Yes, I know about the Ship of Theseus. I was a History minor.

The thing is, why replace any cache? Why not just say soon as any cache goes missing it needs to be archived. No replacing it. The planet of the apes prop is long gone so how does a container -- one that can be easily replaced, make any difference? The important thing is people can go and experience these awesome, historic and iconic hides. I contend that it is not the actual container that is important but the hide. Don't put the emphasis on the physical but on the experience.

  2. Mile stones are important to me, my personal goals is to find a specific cache type for each of my mile stones. So far it goes like this: regular cache, earthcache, mystery, Wherigo, multi-cache, virtual, event and webcam. My number 800 and 900 will be a cito and a letterbox and my 1000 will be a regular all over again. Makes the game fun.

  3. Can someone you work with help you translate your cache page, and to insure that placing your trash in those designated drop areas is allowed? It sounds like it could be a fun day.

    Thank you for replying!

I have brought up a CITO event numerous times at the monthly "meet and greet" events. According to the locals, the trash locations are public. Because everyone pays the same taxes, every one uses the regulated bags to pay for the trash collection, the same government run company picks up all the trash and all the trash ends up in the same place I am told that any one can put their trash at any one of these spots.

I guess i just want to know if this idea, that is walking along the river on the public path would be allowed. I came up with the walk along the river so that it is a public space so I don't have to figure out how to ask land managers permission to hold the event at the local park. I have asked my reviewer who I also get the felling does not want to be bothered with the details and he seemed annoyed. He said "urban citos don't work" but looking over the site I see many examples where their are urban cito events. Anyways, what do you think. does this sounds like a solid plan? If a mod wants to look at my unpublished listing the GC code is GC2XWBK.

    thanks for the reply.

  4. So I would like to host a cito event and I don't speak the local language. I have tried to ask local geocachers for help and I get the feeling they don't want to be bothered with the detail. Last year a local had one and they had plenty of people show up so it just the planning they don't want to be involved in. Anyway, my idea is to have a event where we meet outside of the local subway station, we will then walk to the nearby river. It has a public biking and walking trail that goes 20+ km to the capital city. We would walk down it for maybe 3 km and end at a subway station further down the line for lunch. As for trash disposal we will have to use the government regulated bags, it is how they pay for the garbage pickup. As for where to put the trash, the locals just put the trash in designated areas (no dumpsters) so I figured that we would just put our trash in these locations. Does this sound good? help!

  5. I say go for it. I doubt anyone else will pick up the torch and run with it to make it into the worldwide series you might be envisioning, but having a bunch of caches at McDonald's wouldn't be any more lame than a lot of caches that are published daily on the site.

Sure I'll bite. Why not? I'll put one in Seoul, South Korea for you.

All the caches here are micro anyways.

  6. OX, I have yet to go to Daejeon and need it to fill in that section of my map. When are you coming? i might be persuaded to take the bullet train down and cache with you.

  7. I wouldn't make one with a QR code because it wouldn't be much fun having to stand still all the time while someone tried to hold the tag at just the right angle, find the scanner app on their phone, and then "whoops that didn't work lets try that again..."

My wife and i wore these to our first event last Friday and they were a big hit. I know that in the US every one has name tags, not so much in Korea. I don't know if it was because they were new but lots of people were scanning our QR codes. Then again QR codes are HUGE in Asia and from what I understand have not really caught on in North America.

  8. I think the reason may because Podal a geocacher has quit and he is archiving all his caches. I don't think he removed the actual containers though so if you have an old PQ you might be able to find some of them.

  9. I'm not saying armchair them. that is always wrong. What I am saying is there are plenty of virtual caches which were only archived because the owner stopped logging in to geocaching for some reason. Many of these caches just have you post a photo of what ever you are meant to be visiting. If you follow all the requests that the owner had, whats the harm? How is that arm chair logging? Unless i am mistaken, that means you just find a random cache and log it with out ever visiting it. Am I correct in this thought?

  10. O.K. It is testing week so I have been working my students hard so they can all get good grades. Now that this is the last day of testing I will try it this week end and let you all know how it turned out. Thanks so much rws and Madproforg. You both exceeded my expectations and helped an amazing amount!!
