  1. Oh gees, I was 2 mins too late!!! Well it looks like that have a different spin on this, so we will wait to see how it goes.
  2. At first it was just to get to the cache faster so you do not hang around that long. In and out as fast as possible. After I thought about it more, I came up with a new idea. I posted it a new thread QRCache to dicuss this.
  3. Over in another discussion thread I talked about adding features inside the smartphone app to speed up the logging process. Thru the threads and private messages i realized there is another more fun use of QR Code technology. Thus I propose the following: 1. Ground Speak create a new type of Cache called QRCache 2. Update the Smartphone app so it can use the camera to scan the QR code and launch the cache’s log 3. Make the data inside the QR code so ONLY the Geocaching app knows which cache log to open 4. Make the data inside the QR code that is scanned by any other QR reader app will launch a generic geocaching web page describing what Geocaching is. 5. Make it so someone cannot log the cache one Geocaching.com 6. Create a applet on the website to generate the QR code with the data set mentioned above. Here is a sample of a QRcode: The biggest benefit of this type of cache I see is that the “Cache” can be in plain site. These can printed on stickers and affixed to items anywhere. Some may say this type is not fair to those who do not have smart phones. I would counter this with caches that are underwater needing scuba gear, caches that handicap members could not get to.
  4. Is there a special QR code that allows insertion of a picture? (as the gc logo in the bottom right corner) Or is the code so error tolerant that it can cope? QRCodes have about a 30% fault tonerance built into them, so all I did was overlay the GC logo ontop of the QR code JPEG inside MSPaint. I got the QRCode from qrdroid.com , saved as jpeg.
  5. I was playing around with this and here is the result: This may be a decent solution to allow muggles and non-muggles to scan the same thing. When I scan this the geocaching.com app would ask me if I wanted to open on the website or in the app. After enabling cookies in my iPhoneevery time, now everytime I scan this it goes directly into the app and pulls up the GC.
  6. QR codes are everywhere and I was thinking how it would be cool to get it into Geocaching. Just think about it, put a QR tag on caches and travel bugs for quick actions. If you scan it from the Geocaching mobile app scanning it, the specially formatted code would make it as found or discovered. If a muggle finds it and scans the QR code from any other app, it will pull up a Welcome to Geocaching page instructing them what to do. Personally, I think it would be cool having a travel bug with a QR code on it.
  7. Sorry for the delay in my reply as I have been traveling. This is Magellen's latest GEOCACHE GPS and all the documents are written to select each one. I understand it is the column header, but the seal all column header worked too. I need to try to see if there is a way to import a gpx file.
  8. When I do my search, I use the select all check box at the top of the search resultes. Next to it is a SendtoGPS icon (Says it as I hover over it), but my pointer does not change as if it way a link. When I click on it nothing happens. However going to each indvidual line, I can click on each line's SendtoGPS and it will send that single one. How do I send all of the results at one time? It would be very time consuming to do all of them one at a time. For the record: Using Magellan eXplorist GC ver 1.0 Systems tried on: Windows 7 x64 IE 8.0 Windows XP SP3 IE 7.0 Windows XP SP3 Firefox 3.6
  9. Is Groundspeak going to open a forum on the appication topics (Thinking outside the box that more / different platforms to come)? I want to ask them if logging of both the cache and TB is comming. I think I will stay a two device cacher, but instant logging in the field is awsome!
  10. Ok, so I have been using a Magellen Explorist 600 for a while now. I always hated it due to how long it took forever to load all the way points. Once we were onsite it was accurate as hell! I said all that to say this, I finally broke down a bought a iPhone (Geocache app put me over the edge) with the hopes to use it only. Well it also has it's flaws, but I found using the two together is the best way to go. I will use the iPhone to lookup the next closest, look at the description, logs and hints if needed. I will then take the GPS coordinates from the iPhone and plug it into the Magellen. So here is what I think is good and bad about the app: Good Fast lookups Up to date information Slimmed down, no extra fluff Bad Unable to enter new logs Unable to log trackables Sucks down the battery Not as accurate (not that it's the apps fault, but just a comment about using it) Prompted for try to locate every click after you specify "Don't Allow" If you have to leave the app (I.E. someone calls) the app will not bring up the last page Over all I like it, the biggest gripes is the unable to log directly from the app. I know I can go to http://wap.geocaching.com to log it, but that is a seperate app. Plus with no copy and paste function, even harder. So fellow Geocachers, what do you think about it? How do we suggestupdates? How to we check for planned updates?
  11. OK, so a buddy got me started in Geocaching by creating me a ID. Well he made it just my name, and I would like to change it to my Gamer tag I normally use. I am a premium member. So is there any way to change your ID? TIA
