  1. no digging required, the top 4 inches are above ground.
  2. I would like to set a 5 gallon bucket out as a cache, but it's size makes it to obviouse in the child friendly locationI have in mind, and anything smaller would not fit the swag I have in mind either. What I am thinking is having it2/3 of the way buried, leaving about 3 -4 inches uf it above ground. Any thought or comments?
  3. Are there any Geocaching groups in brooklyn? And if so do they meet on Sundays as I am a sabbath observant.
  4. My Wife is not a geocacher, so I leave her home and take my son. However, I will be taking her with me when we go to Bermuda, it will be a great way to explore the Island.
  5. I prefer larger caches since I hunt with my 5 year old. As for what I leave, I got my hands on a bunch of good carbineer keychains. So I have been leaving those. As for the cache I have created, a pic is worth a thousand words.
  6. If you like hunting for micros and nano's, come to New York City, we have thousands of them.. To bad I hate hunting for micros, it is no fun with my son, age 5. He likes to find and trade swag. And there are not many of those here.
  7. What I use when I dive to take notes is a slate (any dive shop will have one) and a pencil. But I would use a mechanical pencil for an extended stay, or have the divers bring thier own.
  8. As I have currently hidden only 3 caches, micro, small, and large. I would say the location is what caused me to choose the size. However, I hunt only the larger caches (not many in Brooklyn, NYC), because my son like to find the treasures inside. So he has no intrest in micros.
  9. Me and the boy (Akiva).. When he is a bit older he can pick an name too.
  10. The best container I have to say would be a pellican case. The one I have I recovered from the bottom of a lake, about 60 feet down. Some poor guy lost his camra gear... it was down there for months, bases on the silt and veggies on it. When I got it to the surface, all nice and bone dry inside, too bad there was no return address or name to give it back too.
  11. Getting back on topic, I have recived 2 more e-mal saying it was muggled. To my surprise, when I went to check it myself, the cache was still there. I guess they did not check it well enough.
  12. It was hidden in the base of a .....pull. You have to open the base and reach in..... Not something that anyone in NYC would explore...
  13. took my son, a pic is worth a thousand caches. http://img.geocaching.com/cache/log/displa...a2ee10be38c.jpg
  14. The Sankofa 3 FDNY cache appears to have been muggled again . This time less then 12 hours after placement.
  15. To quote Bill Engvall: Here's your sign. Wear it with pride.
  16. Happy holidays all. Just a quick announment. Sankofa Academy has finished setting up its caches and our students are checking the logs waiting for something to happen. So if you happen to be in the brooklyn area, come and get them. As well, our Sankofa bird travel bug is waiting for its first flight.
  17. The First is already in place and just waiting approval.
  18. Do you need a permit to place a geocache in NYC parks? How do you get one? When I called to ask about it the responce was, "geo what?.. Never mind, it is $25 per day to submit the application for what ever it is.."
  19. They were able to use geocaching.com to learn about the topic. Most of them have smart phones they can use. As it warms up, I am hoping to take them on a trip to go geocaching. But to create a goecache, we need a gps to place it, and the one I had borrowed, for my 2 hunts I have returned.
  20. I have introduced geocaching at my school and the students have become interested in it. The admin now wants to create a cache or 3. I don't have my own gps to place the cashes in the marine Park area, anyone how is interstd in helping to hid a couple of caches please e-mail me at jmandelbaum2@schools.nyc.gov We hope to have them ready to go in about a month.
