  1. I would like to be able to alter the coordinates of a geocache, this can be important when doing multicaches. Is this possible or will I have to create a new waypoint with the new coordinates?
  2. Hi, What happens if I copy a gpx file with my finds onto the oregon? Will the Oregon recognise them as finds? Thanks Robert
  3. Hi Chip from Team DeLorme, I am considering to get a PN-40 once it comes out, however, I am based in Europe (London, UK). Will the PN-40 be available on the European market. Will I have access to topographical as well as (routable) streetmaps for the UK as well as the rest of Europe? Thank you Robert Unfortunately the only product that is available for Europe is our XMap software and it does not offer street level detail for road routing. This will allow you to load "raster" maps... scanned paper maps or aerial imagery like you see on Google... Our pro-sales department has more information on this, as well as a world dataset, but it will not give you access to the level of street information that I think you're asking for. Requests like yours certainly help us prioritize future projects, thank you for asking. Chip Noble Team DeLorme Many thanks for your reply. What I can hear from these boards here, Delorme seems to have a very good reputation. Should Delorme ever expand to the European market I would seriously consider to buy a Delorme unit.
  4. Can anybody please tell me if the accuracy and drift problems have been addressed in the new firmware. These are obviously the most important problems of the Oregon, at least for me. Ultimately a GPSr should be all about getting precise coordinates and in the end everything else is secondary to that. This is obviously just my opinion, other people might think differently. On another note, how bad is the screen really? Can you easily read it in direct sunlight (with the light at 100%) or is it very hard to read? I saw the pictures on the wiki but do they represent reality? It is always difficult to judge from pictures. I really would like to buy the Oregon, but just feel it would be a step backwards from my Vista HCx in terms of the quality of the GPS receiver - I am obviously not talking about all the other features. Sorry if I come across as grumpy but I get increasingly annoyed by reading about all the problems with the Oregon (and Colorado for that matter). Anyway, it seems to me that Garmin has a bit of a reputation for releasing products prematurely . PS: I never had the drift problem on the Vista Hcx which people are discussing elsewhere on this board

  6. Many thanks. It worked! Robert
  7. Hi, Is there any way how I can change the dates that are displayed in the forum so that they reflect my timezone. I am in London, so that would be Greenwich Mean Time. It is only a small nuisance, but it does irritate me that I can only see the "american time" at which the message was posted to the forum. Thanks Robert
  8. Hi, I am planning to buy an Oregon 300 and I am left with 2 questions which I couldn't find a satisfactory answer to. Firstly, how do you change or add coordinates when you do a multicache. Secondly, are there any reports regarding Egnos reception? I read that WAAS doesn't work properly. Is this also true for Egnos? Many thanks in advance Robert
  9. Please ignore this message - I realise I should have posted this in the existing Oregon thread! Hi, I am planning to buy an Oregon. So far I was able to get answers to all my questions by using google or reading the Oregon wiki pages. However, there are two question which I struggle to find good answers for. Firstly, can I do multicaches with the Oregon - what I mean is can I easily change the initial coordinates of the multi once I found the first and subsequent stages? Secondly how good is the GPS chip in the unit. How accurate are the Oregon units when compared to a Vista Hcx (which I have). Under ideal conditions with the Vista HCx and with Egnos on I will often achieve an accuracy of +/- 2 meters (approx 9 ft). How good is the Oregon in that regard (on an open field and under tree cover)? Many thanks in advance Best wishes Robert
  10. Many thanks. I have seen this already and there are a few bits and pieces which do worry me. Do you by any chance have an Oregon? If yes I would be interested to hear your opinion about it. Thanks Robert
  11. Hi, I own a Vista HCx with City Navigator and Topo maps. I am thinking about buying an Oregon and I was wondering if I simply could just take out my microSD card from the Vista and put it into the Oregon to transfer my maps? Does this work or will I have to purchase new maps? Thanks Robert
  12. Hi, I have a Vista HCx and I am considering to get an Oregon. I am interested to hear why you prefer the Vista. What's your feeling regarding accuracy of coordinates? Does the Oregon do averaging if you generate a waypoint? Many thanks in advance - I would love to hear your opinion! Robert
  13. Hi, that is my experience as well. I just want to play around with it first before I go home and order it online. The only reason why I am interested in the Oregon is really the ability to do paperless geocaching and the touch screen. What puts me off on the other hand are reports about the screen being really dark. Cheers Robert
  14. Robert, I did not intend to be smug or rude, but you did ask for a place in London where you could touch and feel this device. I thought I had provided you with such a place. Neil Hi Neil, I will try the shop you found for me. It sounds really promising and I really appreciate that you sent me the link. I was just a little bit annoyed yesterday because of how I perceived the tone of your email. Obviously I should have googled myself - but as I said in the past those searches where never successful for me. Honestly, many thanks!!! Robert
  15. Hi, thanks for your suggestion. That was actually my thought as well. I guess an outdoor shop is probably more likely to sell a Garmin Oregon than a general electronics store. I might go downtown this coming weekend and visit a couple of different outdoor shops. Thanks Robert
  16. TCR is so 1990's. 20 shops owned by 2 families. Forget it and look on the net. By the way my facts are totally inaccurate...but you know what I mean! Totally agree with you. TCR together with Oxford Street are just evil I have avoided those two streets like the plague for the last couple of years. Maybe it has changed since then and I should give it another try...
  17. Many thanks for you help! If you ever are in London, we should go for a beer (or tea, coffee or whatever)
  18. On the website it also gives a phone number - why don't you try giving them a call and ask them the same questions? Because I asked if anyone knows about a shop in London. I expected an answer like: try shop x or shop y. I have googled for similar questions before but was only able to find online-shops, but never any "real stores" If you don't know the answer to my question please do not answer it, especially not with such a rude and smug tone. By the way, I quickly scanned over the google search results and found no other store in the next 300 hits. If I am not completely wrong this equates to 15 pages of search results to scan through (I might have overlooked something). I hope you can belive me that in the past such searches have been very unsuccessful for me.
  19. If you had just Googled Garmin oregon London you would have come up with this Oregon LiS On the website it says that you can order online and pick it up in the store??? Do you know if I can just go to the store and have a look at it - unpack it, play around with it - before I decide if I want to buy it?
  20. Hi Paul, I have a big aversion against any electronics shop on Tottenham Court Road. They all seem to be a bit dodgy and not very trustworthy. I guess this is just a prejudice, but I have had problems with electronics shops on Tottenham Court Road before (mainly with extremely annoying and incompetent sales people). Maybe I just should overcome my prejudice :-) Thanks Robert
  21. If you had just Googled Garmin oregon London you would have come up with this Oregon LiS web page says its sold out .. I'd say they dont have it in yet .. GPSWarehouse says "Coming mid August 2008, pre-orders taken now. " http://www.gpsw.co.uk/details/prod4065.html I'd call them and ask 020 8893 9393 Does GPSWarehouse have a shop where I can go to and play around with the Oregon? I thought that they are an internet only company?
  22. Hi, does anybody know of a shop in London selling the Oregon. I would prefer to have a look at it and play around with it before I go ahead and buy it. Thanks Robert EDIT: Sorry for being unclear. I know that I can google for it, but what I am actually asking is: has anyone on this forum recently been IN a store in London where they had the Oregon on display.
  23. Hi, I own a Vista Hcx which I bought about 3 months ago. It came with the 2.6 software, but I have never encountered any of the problems mentioned here even after several hours of use? Robert
  24. Hi everybody, I have a good friend back in Austria who works for the administration of one of the federal states there. He works a lot with geographic information systems and recently offered me to give me very detailed regional topographic maps for my etrex Vista Hcx. He therefore asked me in which format I would need the data. Unfortunately I have no clue which format the map files have to be in and how I can get them into mapsource so that I can upload them onto my GPSr. I would very much appreciate any help you guys can give me. Thank you Best wishes from London (UK) Robert
  25. Just wondering if you've had time to write your tutorial yet? I am not sure if the following works on an ipod touch. Its what I am doing on my iphone and it doesn't require jailbraking. First, you need to install FileMagnet onto the touch (note: you will need a Mac as well) Then I export my caches as html files in GSAK (name of the html files is something like GCXXXX.html) I then batch convert the html files into pdf files. Finally I upload the pdf files onto my iphone from a Mac. In the Filemagnet software on my iphone I have now a folder, which contains in alphabetical order all the pdf files. So far I have uploaded 500 pdf files onto my iphone in one go and it seems to work fine Again, I don't know if this works on the touch. Best wishes Robert
