Thanks... I guess i'm being cautious .
Reading thru comments in diff topics on here, people have suggested having a compass nearby for situations where GPS' lose satellite tracking and /or batteries die and no replacables on hand. Batteries are within my control and not having batteries wouldn't be an issue, but I've already been out a couple times, thankfully not in unknown territory, where I've lost the satellite tracking and once (in my backyard practically), where I did get turned around so I know how easy that can happen. I've parked and marked, but if i lose the satellite, my gps is't much help, so, i figured knowing how to read a compass would be practical backup... :-)
