  1. yippee - mine was there this morning
  2. now I know it's a holiday weekend, and logically, I realize that the nice geocacaching.com technical people are relaxing and having a good time, there is the emotional side of me that is busy saying I DON'T CARE Fix it, make it better. Okay I'm done now
  3. And here I was trying to show somebody how to use cachestats and poof, no pocket queries And I need to UPDATE
  4. A friend and I are doing a themed hide - a cooking cache filled with recipes. The plan is it will be a TNLN unless you have a recipe to exchange, but I KNOW it's not going to happen If you want a cache with more upscale swag, put it out there, but don't be disappointed when it's got regular kid friendly swag in it within a month.
  5. Funnily enough, my daughter and I just had this very same conversation while driving in Spike the mini van - I thought the Garmin Etrex needed a name and suggested rocky - she told me it was too boring and said yellow banana which I promptly vetoed. She thought for a few minutes and shouted out Mogumbo. I told her I didn't like gumbo and why would I want to call our GPSr something that essentially meant MORE gumbo. She told me not to think of it as MORE gumbo, but MOgumbo. I couldn't argue with that logic so mogumbo it is.
  6. I love blogging about our caching adventures - we use wordpress which is also free - free is good
  7. wow - and here I thought finding an AX on my way into the woods at GZ was unique....i was busy worrying about Freddy and Jason and chain saws but that was NOTHING compared to some fo the ickies you all have found
  8. well I got my avatar to update, but I can't get my signature to work - it's supposed to be a link to our geocaching blog never mind...i was using html...they wantet bb code! cool
  9. I just think it's a really sad statement of the world today that people have to actually worry about it. Imagine the stink that would be raised the one time they (the police) just assumed something was a geocache and it turned out to be a bomb.
  10. I'm sure you've answered this already (I did look but couldn't find it) - We just released our first travel bug into the wild and it's goal is to visit schools, (from elementary to colleges and universities) and get pictures. Is there a way that people who pick up our bug can upload photos it's gallery? Thanks
  11. I try to always wear pants (jeans) unless I know they're all park and grabs, then I wear shorts. However, the other day, I was hiding stage 1 of a multi when a tree branch came up from I don't know where, pierced my jeans at the knee and ripped them before ripping my leg and giving me a beautiful bruise. I'm thinking I need armor for the next hide!
  12. With a little patience, you could ultimately ferret out that waypoint without solving the challenge. That would be inappropriate and raise more complaints than this one. Your best bet is to work with the reviewer and locate a suitable location. I have a new cache that would have been ultimately declined if I was to just go out and place it. But because I asked about the coordinates first, the reviewer was able to do a little research and found the coordinates would have been blocked by a 3 year old virtual that never got published. I find when you pick a spot, and maybe a couple of alternates, as well you are willing to check with the reviewer, your placement becomes easier. I call it doing your homework before physically placing the cache. my reviewer is absolutely awesome and I did have an alternative location picked out and he was even willing to tell me that it was an okay area (no multi stages around). I have no complaints about that - I was only hoping that some day when the programmer people are doing their thing they could come up with some kind of warning that pops up...."you are too close to a multi" type of warning or something when you upload a cache
  13. we became members May 28th of this year and have 66 finds - but with school starting in a week, I don't think we'll break 100 any time soon.
  14. my 13 year old twins are second degree black belts - Hence the ninjas in the name, and I'm pretty positive the mom portion is fairly self explanatory
  15. I know I didn't start the topic, but thank you all very much for the great suggestions. The ninjas and I started geocaching a few months ago without a gps, then moved to a borrowed gps (talk about caching on a budget ) and now that we got our own gps, we want to restock the family coffers and get some coins and travel bugs. I'll happily be checking out the sites you all have suggested
  16. I had a cache denied last night because it was too close to another multi - I get it, the only problem is that when you're placing a cache, you don't KNOW that there is a stage of a multi in the area. I wish the clever Groundspeak people could come up with something that throws out a red flag when you upload your cache for review. I mean obviously, you don't want to be spoon fed the location of the other cache (wait, maybe we do) but maybe a message could pop up with a warning.
  17. thanks to everyone who weighed in with an opinion. We decided to stick with the karate patches for our first to find prize. Two of our caches have been found by friends who also study karate so the patches were no biggie to them, but a third one was found by a non karate person, and they said they really loved the patch so i'm all happy.
  18. with our first hide - I thought I did an awesome job of making sure it would stay all dry. The log was in a plastic baggie and the cache (lame guardrail) was also in a baggie. On of the first finders had a smaller better bag for both the log and the cache itself, replaced them and emailed me to let me know what they did, and why, and where I could get the smaller bags. I was eternally greatful for this and hope anytime someone finds one of our caches and has a better way to do it, they share the info with me.
  19. can you do this? The ninjas (kenpo kid and karate girl) wanted to leave passes for one month's free lessons where they take karate, but I didn't know if that violated this rule: Commercial Caches Commercial caches will not be published on geocaching.com without prior approval from Groundspeak. A commercial cache is a geocache listing or geocache which is perceived by Groundspeak, Groundspeak's employees, or the Volunteer Geocache Reviewers as having been submitted to geocaching.com with the principal or substantial intent of soliciting customers or generating commercial gain. The geocache is presumed to be commercial if the finder is required to go inside a business, interact with employees, and/or purchase a product or service, or if the cache listing has overtones of advertising, marketing, or promotion
  20. Unactivated geocoin for FTF maybe? Unopened dollar store items, new toys, signature items, and a ton of other stuff. What do you like to find in caches? Unactivated geocoin is a great idea - however we cache on a total budget that's why we started geocaching to begin with a fun activity that didn't cost us any money (we borrowed our first gps) so things like geocoins and travel bugs aren't an option for us right now.
  21. what constitutes "good" swag? I've read various posts about people being disgruntled at what they found. This bothers me because personally it's the hunt and not whats in it that is important to ME. Anyhow, we're planning our first regular cache adn we want to know what people would like to find in it before we hide. Also - a FTF prize? I told someone in our first hide, we had a karate patch - kind of going along with the whole ninja name and belt themed caches we're hiding and their opinion was it was a chintzy cheesey FTF prize and that other people leave cash. Um? Cash? seriously, how much? Are we just being cheap here at ninja central? Thanks in advance.
  22. yippee they logged it in, i logged it out...now to place it
  23. I'll do that, but i'm kind of doubtful that the grabbed it in Illinois and dropped it in New Hampshire on the same day. I'll give it a few days - thanks for the advice.
  24. we found a travel bug today - somone grabbed in Illinois on July 13 - I found it in NH today, but when I got home to log it, it wasn't listed in the inventory. what should I do?
