  1. For starters ..we've seen addders On Dartmoor ,Devon. Purbeck Coast ,Dorset. All parts New Forest and surrounds ,Hampshire .( and grass snakes there) Can't escape them in town .Friend got bitten picking up a her dogs ball from the long grass in a playing field in a built up area near Troop ,east edge of Bournemouth ,Dorset .
  2. Saw an adder very recently along the wide track that leads to your cache ! I try to remember to look where I my feet as well as my hands because once, when I was climbing over a stile, I was in the process of putting a foot to the ground and something made me think snake .Good job too because I was about to put my foot down on an adder .Not sure how I managed to divert my foot in mid motion to avoid the adder. But I did and the adder slowly slittered away from my foot beside it ,like they do ,because they are very timid . And I keep reminding myself they are timid ,because living with so much heathland and forest around we regularly see them in all sorts of locations . (Didn't expect to see the adder I did see on a rocky beach ,but it had crumbling clay cliffs and that's where it slithered to when I stopped in front and let out a little shriek !) Recommend a visit to the repitillary in the New Forest to help get used to the sight of adders and to to learn to recognise the different sorts of patterning . Some have almost black zig zag on almost black background ,yeap solid black . What to do if you do accidently put your hand on an adder is apparently NOT to whisk your hand away . One day we overheard two forestry workers chatting, while we were visiting an open day demonstration of wood splicing at the Knightwood Oak .The forestry workers were chatting about a colleague who had accidently put his hand on an adder . Somehow the colleague had had the strength of mind to leave his hand in place ,and not jerk his hand away. The adder then slowly slithered away without biting him. Tale ended with some joke about clean trousers
  3. Extract is from your copy of their email to you . Did his wife go on their honeymoon alone ? . .....and he had to cheek to criticise your spelling .
  4. Walking distance of Salisbury City centre is , GC1BEO3 "Harnhan Hunters" multi . Looks like it is big enough for T.B.'s And a very short car ride from the Salisbury is , GC1BV7Z"Meadow Meander" multi that also a regular size container .
  5. I've found with voluntary work that the more one does the more "they" expect . In the end have to get realistic /tough and say no sometimes to some of the extras "they " get to expect . "They" then stop taking it for granted .
  6. Sunday afternoon we went to west Bournemouth area and had cloudless blue sky for the three caches we found
  7. Is there anyone who can work out what the cost of travelling 1 mile in an average car doing 30 - 50 mph is? If we,ve done the sums correctly it's 17.71 pence per mile for us . Petrol car doing not many motorway miles . Since 7th Jan done 2806 miles Bought 467.42 litres of petrol Cost £497.09
  8. I find it is better to throw the g.p.s. in a ditch because it's easier to retieve from there than from a river !
  9. We had a T.B. reported missing by several finders to one of our caches . We then checked it ourselves and then emailed the T.B. owner and he then cleared it from the cache listing .
  10. We were once told that a gore-tex that lets in water can be fixed by putting it in a tumble drier . We don't have a trumble dier so don't know if it works , and no longer have a gore tex .
  11. There have to be guidelines, why shouldn't businesses pay??? In my experience it's me who pays the dumpimg fee when I employ a business to do a job for me that involves them taking my stuff to the tip for me. It's often listed seperately on the bill under "cost of disposing of the rubbish " .
  12. We don't like seeing dumped rubbish .We can't understand it when we've sometimes been to a new'ish cache and seen very old rubbish nearby that's too yuky to pick up yet the cache placer has still seen fit to put the cache there. Our opinion on fly tipping is there would be less fly tipping if there wasn't a charge at the dump for dumping if it gets taken there in a commercial vehical. We can take our D.I.Y. debris and bulky items to the dump in or on our car and not get charged for dumping it there . Not the same story for our neighbour . He took a bulky domestic item of his mother's (who doesn't live with him ) to the dump in his business van . Dump employee told our neighbour he would have to pay to leave the item . Luckily neighbour spotted a friend at the dump who had their car with them , so the item was placed in the friends car , then they asked the same dump employee if there was a charge to dump the item . There wasn't!
  13. I was enjoying this 'til I got to the bit about the purple script . Alas, too many memories of our eldest son being bullied, at junior school by the teachers ,for such things for that to be funny in our house .
  14. We don't usually look at cachers homepages so the info on it would not have come to our notice , but it has now
  15. If a cache owner doesn't log on for months ,or years in some cases ,how could that not be considered disowning their caches ? If I left an item on aS.W. train ,that was handed into their lost property department, they would dispose of my iitem after 3months .
  16. Don't want to scare you but Terrorists were discovered to be training in the woods of the New Forest . http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article635811.ece
  17. Don't know about the caching aspect ,but opened your link and the opening sentence has us wondering about our understanding of what is P.C.
  18. I don't know. All this talk of mealtimes is making me hungry. Thank goodness it's nearly time for supper P Almost time for lunch down here. Tea will be last meal of day .
  19. As well as contacting the cache owner, if it's needles we suggest contacting the local council/parks department if the cache is on local authority maintained land .
  20. Our experience . Etrex brought Christmas 2000 has only had one button come loose . That was repaired free of charge way past the warranty date . Second etrex ,brought July 2004 has yet to go faulty . A second hand Legend bought on ebay 2006 has not developped faults yet . A 6-7 year old old vista given to us last year is so far faultless .
