  1. Perhaps spreading the word that black bin liners could encourage reptiles to the cache in the summer might persuade cachers who aren't already anti black bin liners. I hadn't thought of that aspect until reading a log from a cache ,parts of which are quoted below .
  2. Pleased I managed to get it friendly and polite . You responded in a polite friendly way. Incase anyone is wondering the emails were about a polybag on outside of cache . Nice cache .
  3. We think they are nice owners of cache . They also amended the cache hint after corresponding with us ,in a friendly manner , about our d.n.f. posting . We did say in our d.n.f. post that we found the terrain of the cache search area to be "taxing" ,but as we are in our fifties what we/I now find taxing may not be for others. Perhaps should all declare our ages when logging .(if I understood the meaning of the smilies I would end with an apropiate one )
  4. Off topic about caching in the dark.... the radio feature I mentioned about creatures being startled at night wasting energy reserves had started by mentioning a coastal strip in Scotland that has a huge flock of birds that rest on the beach . People were taking pleasure in walking amongst them for the spectacle of seeing this huge flock of birds take flight . The wardens had no power to ban people from walking amongst the birds ,but most people refrained from doing so after it was explained to them why it was detrimental the the birds welfare .
  5. Can't remember the exact words used ... but there was an feature on radio about creatures and birds being startled when people unexpectedly appeared near them in places that are normally quiet at night . In taking flight they use up energy reserves ,that can be a bit lacking, especially during winter .
  6. Seems posting on here worked within hours where discreet emails hadn't after weeks ! ?
  7. That is if it is acknowledged that the cache is on Forestry Commssion managed land . GCQA2C In a Spin(ney) is on New Forest Forestry Commssion managed land . The cache details include an icon saying the cache is available 24/7 ,but the permissions agreement states that caches placed under the terms of the New Forest Permissions Agreement should NOT be be sought during the hours of darkness . We have communicated with you( Lactodorum ) and GAGB commitee over this . The reply to our email was that it was not considered that the cache is placed on New Forest F.C. managed land . We knew it was ,but phoned the relevant Forestry Commission office to double check before sending another email ,this time to a GAGB member ,reiterating that the cache is on F.C. managed land ,and land of a sensitive nature ,being heathland ,and not scrubland as described in reply to first email . Still awaiting a reply to email to GAGB committee . Many weeks later the cache in question still displays a 24/7 icon . We could try communicating with the cache owner directly in this instance , except the reply to our first email highlighted a more fundamental problem of a lack of being able to recognise from afar what is New Forest Forestry Commission managed land and a subsequent rejection of local peoples knowledge . edited for spelling .
  8. I asked because recently ,when caching, I chanced upon some "paperless " cachers . We all failed to find the cache but they asked to read my printout of cache details.
  9. etc When premium members download waypoints for caches how many cache details get downloaded ?
  10. I didn't have in mind things like caches halfway up or down cliffs ! I had in mind things like caches in or near dry stone walls ,caches placed near active animals holes ,caches wrapped in polythene on outside and intentional tresspass . Why some cachers like to log accounts about their unintentional tresspasses is something I don't understand .
  11. Is everyones idea of what is common sense the same ?
  12. Perhaps someone oneday will have to take the can .
  13. Get tough?Yes Does it matter?Yes. Case for action?Yes Is it just you?No
  14. and some of us still wash the dirty dishes without the use of a mechanical dish washer !
  15. I was amused with this ... Part of f.t.f. log for GCQJG9
  16. I found the best place to store the list of locationless caches I/we have yet to find is in the memory in my head .
  17. It's not the dogs ,it's the owners . Noticed that the dogs that don't go to owners when called are those that are being shouted at by owners and when the owner does cactch the dog they hit it . The dogs that do go to owners when called are being called in nice tone of voice and get an affectionate stroke as a reward . Non dog wary people could help dog owners and dog wary people by not rewarding dogs that jump up at them .i.e. don't stroke them and play with them .
  18. Doesn't make sense to me . (1) Are Micros hidden in city centre a "box in the woods" ? ( 2)Conversely I know of several interesting landmarks in the middle of "woods" that can only be accessed by foot and would require the use of a g.p.s. ,or map reading skills,to find .
  19. We are puzzled about the rational of this suggestion from the Parish Council .
  20. The reason we don't like calling cards is because we have found too many older caches where the calling cards are scattered in the bottom of the container in an untidy and neglectful manner .
  21. Calling cards . Unless they are placed neatly together in a bag where they can keep each other company . .
