    Adopt-a-cache

I need someone to adopt our cache since we moved out of the area this summer. Unfortunately we forgot to remove this guy and now it's starting to hurt. We've had 3 reports of the cache being raided. Please help! http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...fc-8b3aa6caa7c6

    Really Weird

When my bugs get picked up I like to view the profile of the person who found it, and when they drop it off, I always read about the cache. I guess I enjoy learning about new places, and getting good cache ideas. However, after checking out the cache that my bug "the knot" was dropped in, I ran into some problems. Looking at the cache, neither the cacher, nor the bug shows up. When I pull up the TB page and click on the link ... nothing. The bug isn't there, and the guy didn't log. I just got the email today, and no one else has logged the cache as found. Is this some kind of database error? Am I just being paranoid? Did a massive black hole open up and steal this cacher off the face of the earth, taking all evidence that he existed along with him? Someone is out to get me. It's the aliens, they're trying to drive me crazy. -ben "the knot" TBFC40 6/30/2004 - 04/07/2005 Rest in Peace
  4. My wife and I are looking for a dog, and we thought it would be nice to take out on cache hunts. However, I remember back to my childhood when our trusty canine friend would lead us out of the woods in the middle of the night, or in very thick fog. I'm wondering if any of you cache with a dog, and if they lead you right to the spot?
  5. when i was a river guide we used to tell people that the most dangerous part of white water was the drive to the river... i'll put $20 on it being the same with geocaching.
  6. if you ask me, everyone needs to do theirself a favor and read "the culture of fear" by Barry Glassner. we are all scared of the wrong things... we need to be worried more about heart attacks and sudden infant deaths. we are still more likely to die in a car crash than be murdered. just some food for thought.
  7. yeah, my package was kissed! my wife and i just celebrated our 6 month wedding anniversary!
  8. yikes! so, the UPS guy put the package in a diffrent place than he usually does, so we never saw it. Sunrise Identity has redeemed itself as one of the best customer service examples i have ever seen. The reps cotacted me personnaly and did their best to make me happy. Shipment was sent promptly, and they didn't even ask for the orginal item back. Thank you all, keep up the good work, and merry christmas! -B. Durrant
  9. I haven't recieved my shirt yet. hrmmmm.... guess i'm not getting my christmas present on time!
  10. somehow i knew if i mentioned it in the forums someone important would notice!
  11. scratch that! my wife still hasn't revieved the replacement shirt. she's emailed and called with no replies! i'm not sure if this is the holiday season reaping havoc with sunrise, but it's been over a month since the first email was sent... this seems a little absurd. what do you guys think?
  12. they tend to be in really crappy locations... parking lots, lamp posts, gas stations... i see those every day. take me somewhere interesting that i wouldn't get to see normally
  13. Coast Guard... been caching during port calls on my last tour of the north atlantic. headed off to cape cod for a land station now.
  14. My wife recently told me what she was getting me for christmas... a brand new long sleeve shirt from Groundspeak. You may think it's odd that she told me, but she was so upsed over this I just have to tell. The shirt had a hole in the sleeve just above the cuff that the manufacturer tried to fix by glueing it (rather poorly). Somehow this made it past quality control and ended up on my wife's doorstep. She told me all about this because she was not getting any response to her emails. I told her "give it a few more days" as it was around thanksgiving break time. I just wanted to let you all know that Groundspeak has sent out a new shirt without even asking for the defective one back. Thanks a lot! It always seemed odd to me that if you purchase something off the internet and it is defective, you have to pay to send it back... shouldn't that be the responsibility of the seller? Groundspeak went a step further by trusting the humble geocacher, and just sending a new shirt.... you guys rock, Groundspeak.
  15. i use delorme's street atlas.... it's really good with basically any GPSr with a data cable. i have a seperate GPSr for laptop navigation, it's called a navman. connects via usb and is fairly cheap. I prefer using this to my etex vista because it doesn't need batteries. the software included with it didn't really fit my needs so i got the street atlas.
  16. well, on a day trip to san francisco my vista finally died. i know the unit still works because i can get a fix when hooking it up to the laptop, and the backlight still works... but no dice on the display. going to call on monday and be 'mad' and see what happens. thanks guys for all the help!
  17. Saw this movie last night. Found it somewhat interesting but not really good. For me it would have been a better rental than a theatre event. Call me cheap, call me too harsh of a critic, but $10 is a little too much to spend on this one. Then again, i'm not a big fan of puzzle caches.
  18. Celestial Navigaion in Kittery, Maine is a toughie. i've never done it myself, but i hear it's a good one
  19. i've got this same problem... not about the contents, but about the log book. i used a big log book with 500 pages and only 30 or so got used.... should i put the log book in a new cache?
  20. for some reason when i tell my friends about caching they always say "that would be really fun to do drunk" ... then again i do hang out with a bunch of drunken sailors!
  21. thanks for all the suggestions... as for the cost of feeding them issue: cheap beer for the ones who find it fast, more frustrated = need more 'help'
  22. I"m going to be renting a house with a yard where i'm headed. i think what i will do is put a logo in the window, and clearly state in the description that all is kosher. in the crypto part i'll offer a free beer to the frustrated... i think that should clear up all problems!
  23. I have the same problem.... too many caches, not enough GPS units. I was thinking of getting one "for my wife" so that i could "borrow" it for a little while.
  24. I used to offer beers to anyone who got too frustrated while hunting!
