  1. Not sure how Verizon is overall, but I think it might be slightly different with the HTC Touch Pro II as noted from this review: Here's a good news/bad news situation. While the Verizon Touch Pro 2 is fitted with a GPS receiver, which is unlocked and will work with applications other than Verizon Navigator, it is slow. The slowest I've handled with it taking in excess of 2 minutes to acquire a satellite fix. It works like a charm with Navigator, but with Google Maps or Live Search it's slow as ketchup in a glass bottle. I did find that if you get a fix through Navigator then switch to the other mapping apps, the GPS was more responsive. I did not experience any lag with the GPS tracking. So I'm hoping that there is still some advice to be had. One other thing this is Windows Mobile 6.5 Pro.
  2. So I two normal GPS units (an old Magellan 315 and a Delorme PN-40). Recently I got an new smartphone, an HTC Touch Pro II from Verizon. It has a GPS in chip in it. I thought it might be nice to be able to do an occasional cache using my smartphone if I don't happen to have my GPS handy. Can anyone recommend a software package for this purpose? Free is better, but if the price is right, it won't be a big deal. If it helps, I have a premium membership and access to pocket queries. TIA.

  5. OK. Just bought the Delorme PN-40 off Amazon. Hoping it gets here before next weekend. To maximize my caching experience (to include paperless geocaching), what other software and/or memberships do I need? The follow-up question, is what other features (like turn-by-turn) will I get with this and what software and/or memberships will I need for these as well. TIA.
  6. I have a Magellan 315 that I bought back in 2000 when I first started geocaching. Basically all I use my GPS for is to point me to caches. However I am frustrated with the receiving capability of the 315 under cover. So, I'm looking at a replacement unit. If all I am looking for is to point me to the cache (accuracy) AND topo maps, color, street directions, etc. are not important, what can I get away with?
  7. I found just what I needed in the GPS Education forum. Thanks. I missed that forum on my scroll through the list prior to my first post.
  8. I was asked by the technology director at our school district to put together an hour long class on GeoCaching, focusing on the technology side of the sport. Basically, how this and related web-sites are used. I'll also need to spend some time on GPS units. This will be held as an evening community interest type of class. I was wondering if anyone has done something similar and if they would be willing to share the materials they have prepared or their experiences. Thanks in advance.
  9. I have been frustrated with my Magellan 315 'under cover' lately. Today, I saw an ad by a co-worker selling an Eagle Explorer. Anyone know anything about this model? Might it give me better accuracy 'under cover'? If I wanted to get a new one, and spend less than $200, what would you recommend (other than spend more money)? Thanks.
