  1. Very glad to see that it was something they could identify specifically and add to a correction list. I'd appreciate it if someone would post here when the issue is resolved. Thanks!
  2. My testing yesterday falls in line with your thinking on the 2MB size, Dan. The two files that did not work for me were a 1000-cache file at 5.3 MB and a 500-cache file at 2.7 MB. The 25-cache file at 119 KB worked just fine. Best, Eric
  3. Downloaded the 1000-cache file from Geocaching.com again, but it still won't play. Small file still works fine. I may have to cut bait on this one, sadly. I've boxed it back up for return tomorrow.
  4. OK, here's some additional data for you all: I deleted ALL the contents of the GPX folder (including the "Current" sub-folder). Then I ran a small pocket query (25 caches) and copied that .gpx file to the GPX folder on the eTrex. SUCCESS! The caches came up just fine, and everything looks great. Then I cleaned out the folder again, and copied back in the 1000-cache file that I started with. No dice. The device hangs on start-up like it did before. Then I ran another new query, this time with 500 caches. Loaded that file into the clean folder, and the unit hung at start-up again. Then I loaded back in the small 25-cache file (again into a clean folder), and it works fine again. Thoughts? Don't understand why it would work with one small file, but not the two largers ones, when others are using the larger files just fine. I would think that a hard defect would kill it across the board, not selectively like this. Should I exchange it tomorrow morning and try a different one? I wanted to take this with me on a family trip Saturday morning - running out of time. Thanks, Eric
  5. yodasands, are you running v2.30 of the software in your unit? I upgraded the software first thing, before I started loading maps and the GC file. I think it had v2.10 on it out of the box. Just trying to think of what variables there may be. Thanks.
  6. Best Buy’s 30-day return policy might come in handy! :-)
  7. Have tried copying the GPX file using both a Mac and a PC. Still no joy. Can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong here.
  8. Yes, I have a 1000-cache file I’m working with, too. Will keep trying variations.
  9. I successfully used this procedure to get three different map images into the eTrex 20 today. I renamed each along the way, and they show up as separate map items in the list. Each can be individually enabled and disabled. Now if I can just get the bulk PQ GPX file to work! (separate thread!) Eric
  10. Yep, I’m in exactly the same spot right now. Very interested in how folks have gotten past this point. Am I supposed to put *both* the main GPX file and the “xxx-wpts.gpx” file in the GPX folder, or just the main one? Thanks.
  11. Thanks for the feedback, Patty! My main machine is a Snow Leopard iMac. Are you saying that you can only get maps loaded by using your MacBook because of the “.DS_Store” error on your iMac? Or the iMac still works despite the error? We also have a slower PC in the house that’s connected to the internet through a router. Would I be better off using the PC for this? Likely pulling the trigger on an Etrex 20 tomorrow, so I’m working ahead to see what I need to do!
  12. Are the iMac map-loading tutorials over at GPSFileDepot.com valid with the new Etrex 20/30? I noticed that the link to Garmin's MapInstall page shows that that program hasn’t been updated since May 2010. Is that still the preferred way to get maps on to the new Etrex models? Or is there a more direct drag-and-drop option? Thanks!
