  1. i enjoy caches by ardvark and Mulligan they are very creative with making clues. I would say to date my favorite cache is Nature's Wonder's. Another fun cache we did was by Caveboy Ken (Buck Creek Walkabout Returns with Things Unspoken ) which took us three trips to finish lol. The short of it all ... we are blessed in Grand Rapids with lots of cool caches.
  2. the best i think would be a hollowed out pinecone with a screw on top lol. Sprinkler head, a fake birdhouse, fake birdnest, on one multi the cords were written as a telehone number on the back of a electrical box (we searched the area for about an hour before we figured it out lol), hmmm a hollowed out light post. a fishing pole style where the micro was hanging from a line.
  3. Around here we collect sig cards. A stamp in the log you can't bring with you. I for one really enjoy collecting sig items and gives me a reason to want to hunt out the caches. the toys are more for the kids
  4. My son placed a multi a week ago and it seems people are having trouble finding some of the stages while other people including myself have no problem. One poster said the final was off by 85 yet my gpsr read 28 when i got to it. Is there a reason why this would be? It really don't make sense to me. all the hides are straight forward and oddly enough the novices have no problems wheras the seasoned cachers cant seem to find it. I went back and checked coords three times now and I don't see what the problem is. any suggestions would clear up alot of frustration. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...C-D736859491BE}
  5. although it is a good idea ... we run into the same problem as people doing geo-caching for school projects. You run into someone who places a cache (ussally half-cocked) and then posts it and keeps up with it for a couple weeks until they get a grade. then you never see them again. I can off hand think of three of these caches (two of which I had to log a DNF becuse they are no longer there) So even though it is a great way to introduce scouts to a great outdoor hobby ... It could also hurt it as well.
  6. we use the yellow etrex and have no problem both my 5 year old and 10 year old can opperate it. but then again they can opperate a gameboys too lol.
  7. 365 caches in 365 days so far I have been hunting since nov 1 and have 76 finds so I'm well on my way. Now dealing with winter ..... brrr
  8. My wife loves me geocaching it get me out of her hair for a couple hours and I take the kids with me as well. All she has to do is buy me batteries lol.
  9. I went out to get my first finder last night. It was posted at 3:45 pm I went out at 4:50 (didnt have wheels) It was one of those urban things where you go from place to place and take info. Finished my running around at about 6:00 (dark already (I had to put my son over a cemetary fence to get a couple clues lol)( dont you love these enclosed parentesis))) Finally i get to the park (closed as well) we get to the cache just to find out that someone found it at 4:00 pm. how did they find this cache in 15 mins when it involved over 12 miles of driving? hmm can you say inside information?
  10. the trek poles will tell you if there is a snake or some kind of critter in the hole. however it will not tell you about spiders or scorpions or other nasty little critters. Wearing gloves is always a good idea.
  11. how bout team generic? lol your sig cards could be black and white
  12. it took me 8 mins just for this to pop up everytime i click on discuss geocaching it takes like 5 mins to pop up. I am using a cable modem and have no problem with any other site please advise.
  13. There is a cache in our town where you have to go around to 8 different caches and get a clue to the final. All caches are micros and contain a playing card. 1.) no prob 2.) cache there playing card is not there (and to make matters worse one of the locals calling card has a playing card on the back of it and it is in there lol) No log 3.) no log 4.) Cache missing 5.) Cache missing and archived 6.) located in a pile of trash (rusted metal and other dump stuff)no log 7.) no log coords way off 8.) no log to finish this cach you need to take all 8 cards and put them together to form the coords (using code on final cache webpage) so there is no way to finish if you are missing three clues that are not available. I emailed the cache owner and he dont answer. Is is just me or should this whole mess be archived until the cache owner fixes it? anyway i found out some clues from someone else who found it with great difficulty and got to the cache site and it was off by over 100 feet and located in a pile of trash. LOL worst cache experince ever I am glad however, that i have these off my list.
