  1. If I set it to WAAS mode, will it default to NORMAL mode if WAAS sats cannot be picked up? What are the pros and cons of using WAAS versus Normal? Thanks
  2. On my Colorado 400c when I go to SETUP -> SYSTEM ->GPS : Can anyone explain in detail what are the differences between: -NORMAL -WAAS -DEMO MODE Thanks in advance
  3. Thanks all, At least I don't feel alone in this regard anymore. Thank goodness for this forum. Folks are pretty responsive. Thanks again.
  4. This is a call out to all Colorado owners who would like to see Garmin re-issue their 'Colorado Series Owner's Manual' with better detail. I was very disappointed with the manual. Here are some of the things I was dissapointed in: Not adequate description of all the data fields. No Glossary No description of Re-Sets and effect No description of GPS modes - Normal, WAAS or Demo Mode. Poor decription of how to use tracks and archive. all functions and their use. Poor description of all options and their effect on the current function. No troubleshooting section Poor description of the satellite screen Please feel free to add your comments.
  5. When you say it doesn't turn on does it just freeze at the Garmin logo? There is a bug in 2.54...........In either case the best way to recover is use this procedure. When you get the Colorado into USB mode just delete the GPX files it is loading and reboot. GO$Rs I had the same problem. All I know is the unit froze up on me twice in two days, then finally stopped powering on. I would power it up and the Garmin Screen splash would appear then slowly fade. Same symptom when I plugged into my PC. Hard re-set would not work so I shipped back to Garmin. see my post I just received my 400c unit back in the mail today (one week turn around not bad). Brand new unit with no explanation on the issue. That scares me a bit.
  6. Garmin shipped me a brand new unit w/SW version 2.50 and GPS Version 2.60. No explanation of why it died.....that kind of fries me. I try to e-mail customer support to cite my concerns and their e-mail link freezes up. I then try to call customer support only to find out that it is a 35 minute wait...... I guess I'll just use the unit until it crashes again
  7. For what it's worth. I'm kinda in the same boat you are. I just bought my Colorado 400c in May. It's already puked on me (would not power up) . I returned it to Garmin for repair and the repaired unit should be here tomorrow. I was looking for an updated status and saw the Oregon suddenly appear. I was a little miffed that I could have had a touch screen. But now that I've done a little reading and thinking, a touch screen may not be the cat's meow if it's raining, muddy or cold. And based on all the Software issues with the Colorado........just wait and see what happens with the Oregon. (Unless they put the 'A' team on Oregon and 'B' team on Colorado). I'd wait a year and see what kind of updates and serious user reviews come out on Oregon.
  8. I ended up speaking with Garmin after hanging on the line for 40 minutes. They asked me to ship the unit back, which I've done. We'll have to see how long it takes to get it back. In the mean time I've seen that the new Garmin Oregon has come out. Any thoughts on having a touch screen for a trail model which will be used in boating/hiking. I'd be concerned with Mud and Salt water constantly being scraped across the screen.
  9. My Garmin Colorado 400c is less than a month old and it died. I've handled it with kid gloves since it was so darned expensive, so I know it wasn't a handling problem. I was using it on my sail boat and it froze a couple times while navigating a particularly twisty channel in Potts Harbor Maine. I was not happy to say the least. It froze a couple more times after that. I had to pull the NiMH batteries out and re-install and it apparently worked ok. I then had it out on the boat and it would not even power up. I had freshly charged NiMH batteries which worked fine in my camera. THe unit would power up to the Garmin screen, then slowly fade and turn off. Tried plugging into the PC and did the same thing. Blech.........So much for Mean Time Between Failure. Anyone suffer similar problems?
  10. I downloaded the communicator addin and it is enabled but nothing seems to happen I figured it out - I had to go to: Tools -> Manage Add-ons, then enable the "Microsoft" Active X add - on.

  12. Hello. I just bought a Colorado 400c. I'm trying to "send to gps" from the geocaching website. I keep getting an error at the bottom left of the download window. It almost seems as if it cannot find my Garimin. I can see my Garmin directory through explorer however. Any suggestions. Thanks,
