  1. just typed a reply but hit wrong button part way through so if this double posts I'm sorry... Thank you everyone! I did the cache as a waypoint and was finally able to find it after work today. I've been trying since summer and it was a real thrill to finally nab it. The Oregon got me within 4 feet which was pretty good considering I was inside my car and it was a cloudy night and there were buildings around. Going to take some getting used to but I think I will be very happy with it. Definitely going to look into getting the rechargable batteries cuz I like the backlight full bright and want it to stay on and not blink off after only half a minute or so, so I'll burn through regular batteries pretty fast.
  2. Thanks!! I went ahead and loaded it as a waypoint. I'm not "techy" enough to know how to do the other things suggested (maybe someday...) I'm very surprised that such a simple thing to do on a $100 E-Trex can't be done on a $600 Oregon. Wasn't expecting to actually lose things in this upgrade. Overall I'm still very happy with it, and at least there is a workaround for it, I'm guessing that's how to manage multi part caches as well, adding the extra legs in the waypoint area instead of the geocache area. Now I have to figure out the best kind of batteries to use, I've already used up 1/4 of the battery life of my regular batteries just playing with it off and on today. Rechargeable might be the way to go...
  3. I got into Geocaching last spring using a Garmin Etrex Legend. Have been itching to upgrade and finally decided to treat myself to an Oregon 400T which arrived today. I have been trying to find one cache in particular and was eager to try out my new toy. I downloaded the cache from geocaching.com to the Oregon with no problem. But it's a puzzle cache and the given coordinates are fake ones. I've already solved the puzzle and know the correct coordinates. But I can't figure out how to change the downloaded fake coordinates to the correct ones? The owners manual was no help at all. I've hit about every screen I can think of with no luck. Can someone tell me if it is possible to change downloaded geocache coordinates, and if so, how?
  4. OK. Thank you so much for letting me know! My dad's Etrex functions except for the arrow and he really likes the arrow, so it doesn't sound like this type of GPS would work for what he wants to do. He does a lot of suburban micros where you do need one with an arrow. I will try to find him a handheld version.
  5. I am new to Geocaching so not very knowledgeable about the different kinds of GPS's out there. I use a Garmin Etrex Legend because my friend had recommended it. I also bought one for my dad but after only a few months his arrow does not function and he has had trouble with the navigation button. I would like to get him a different model. I know this kind is more meant to put in a car. Can you geocache with it? Does it give you an arrow and tell you how far to go to find the caches like the hand held Legend does? If so then I am very interested in buying this from you.
