  1. Yes this can be done. when you have selected the area you want to transfer, select transfer to device, then with your sd card in the reader select it from the list. I will use this method to transfer for one card when I have another one in the GPS How does Garmin prevent you from using the SD card in a gps that is not unlocked for the map?
  2. Does it lose reception when it is writing data to the pc? I noticed periodic loss of reception when I had my 60csx connected to my laptop running Nroute. I think it happened whenever track data was being written to the pc. I wasn't watching bars. I just saw the "lost reception" message pop up.
  3. It's kinda hidden away in the menus . Once you have a track loaded into Trackmaker double click on the track to select it (it should show a line of dots when selected). From the menu select Tools->Tracklogs and Routes->Tracklog Reducer->Create a Route. Thank you! That is a powerful tool.
  4. I too want to convert a track to a route. I have a 60csx. I downloaded GPSTrackmaker. I can't find a function to do this conversion, though. Can you point me in the right direction?
  5. See if your street is on Google Maps. They are using Navteq 2006. If the steet isn't there, it probably wouldn't be on any software based on Navteq data. ...That's my guess...
  6. My Glisson works very well. Out in the open, without a ground plane, I get lots of full bars.
  7. Garmin replaced my unit when I sent it in for repair. The replacement required new unlock codes, which Garmin supplied to me.
  8. Topo 24k is far more detailed. It only covers national parks, and some state parks, I think. So if it covers an area you're interested in, it's worth the money. You can see which areas are covered on Garmin's web site.
  9. Garmin's library of North American maps doesn't cover Lake Temagami, Ontario Canada Does anyone know of a third party developer who has digitized a map of lake temagami that can be uploaded to a Garmin gps?
  10. When I called Garmin to get a repair request, they reduced the flat rate from $150 to $75! The rep said since it was only the antenna that was broken, they would reduce the rate.
  11. Whle biking with my 60cs, the bike mount worked loose. The bolt that holds it on backed out. The 60cs fell to the pavement while I was going about 10 mph. It must have hit right on the antenna. The rubber end cap came loose. Part of the plastic piece under the cap that protects the antenna cracked off, probably letting the antenna get bent over. It wouldn't acquire satellites after that. It will, however, still acquire them with the external antenna. Everything else still works OK. I emailed Garmin. It'll cost me $150 to get it fixed. I can't complain since the accident was probably my fault. The bike mount had been on for a couple years (originally installed for my Legend) and I hadn't ever checked the fastener. Has anyone else found a way to break the 60cs?
  12. Can the external antenna wire be hooked up and run neatly out of the case?
  13. Has anyone used software that matches up gps track data with digital photo EXIF files? I've heard of one program that will show a picture and a map of where it was taken.
  14. Gilsson MCX Amplified antenna 9 ft black (MCX9B) GArmin 60cs
  15. Last weekend I took a hike in the Smokies. On previous hikes there I always lost reception underneath heavy foliage or when up against a mountain side. This time I used an external antenna and had continuous reception. I mounted the antenna on the top of a baseball cap that I wore throughout the hike. I felt a little conspicuous, and looked really nerdy. But it worked. I didn't need to worry about holding the GPS up for good reception, so I could stow it in a vest pocket when I didn't need to be looking at it. It was gratifying to review the track log with elevations after the hike. My hike along the Rainbow Falls trail pretty much matched the trail found in Garmin's Nation Parks East Topo map. Has any one else thought to use an antenna on a hat? Is it a little too weird? In the privacy of my back yard I found that lining the hat with aluminum foil improves reception. I don't have the nerve to try this in public....
  16. Using US TOPO 24K National Parks on my PC, I made a route following trails in the Smoky Mountains. When I downloaded it to my 60 CS, the route no longer followed the trail. It became straight lines between map points. How can I set things up to have the route on the GPS follow the trail?
  17. What battery life do you get when using an external antenna? For me, 12 hours with: Garman 60 CS Gilsson external 1 year old 2050 mAh Duracell batteries Backlight off
  18. I bought a 60CS this week at gpsdiscount.com. I paid $394 US. Free shipping. It was delivered in 3 business days. I got a free T Shirt, too.
  19. Are there any handheld gps receivers that have bluetooth? I'm looking for a full featured handheld that also has bluetooth.
