  1. BTW, I really appreciate eveyone posting pics of their mounts - my wife thinks we're all crazy. She dosen't undertsand Thanks I have my 60cs mounted to a Ram mount on the left handlebar. The mount replaces one of the screws that holds the clutch lever to the handlebar.Like this
  2. I have not had that happen to my 60cs - yet. I just went through the manual looking for a clue. Is the compass icon on the status bar? Turn it on/off from the compass page by holding the page button. The compass can also be calibrated from the calibration page under the setup menu. The manual states the compass can be turned off to save battery power. Maybe the batteries need changing. Are you using the 4.05 beta firmware? If so, it might be a bug.
  3. Try here they have an FM kit with microphone that runs on 2 AA's for $13.00
  4. I cache on my scoot, a HD VROD. Check out ram mounts. They have a mount on the end of a bolt that I mounted in place of one of the bolts that holds the clutch lever/master cylinder assembly to the handlebars. My GPS 60cs clears the tank bag, windshield, and speedo/tach.
  5. I have the Garmin mount in the car but I did not think it would hold up on two wheels. I have used a RAM mount on the handlebar of my mountian bike and motorcycle with both a GPS V and now the 60CS. It has never come out or even loose over 1000's of miles of use. This includes removing the unit repeatedly for caching. I have always wound the wrist strap around the mounting bracket just in case.
  6. In the Jan/Feb 2006 issue of Lighthouse Digest there is a positive one page article about Geocaching and Lighthouses titled "Maximizing Your Lighthouse Experience" by Carol A. Lake. There is a picture of Marblehead Lighthouse in Ohio and gc.com is mentioned. A Geocacher is shown seeking a cache and a Geocache is mentioned as being nearby, could it be The Beacon's Booty ? The article is not yet available online.
  7. When I place a cache, I write the Name and waypoint of the cache on the logbook, the date it was placed, and who placed it (me). I do not log my cache on gc.com. Is this a log of my own cache? I do not think so, just identification of the cache. Is this the kind of log you are refering to?
  8. I have upgraded to v7 as well, but had not noticed this until you pointed it out. I upgraded because the map data was out of date. When I went to Mapsource to investigate, I think I found out what is going on. I called up a trip from last summer that had 6 maps saved. The maps that were saved were in North American City Select v4.01 and any new maps are City Select North America v7. Expand the user data fields with maps selected to see this. So the old maps are not pink. If new maps are selected, they show up pink. I think I will save my old routes with the new maps.
  9. Hiding caches and reading the logs is almost as much fun as finding a cache and writing a log. It does not take too long to get them approved. Enjoy
  10. The fun has begun. Now go out and find another, and another.......they are everywhere.
  11. I have the plastic mount on my motorcycle. Thousands of trouble free miles. I take it out everytime I stop for a Geocache, or to secure it. I got it here CycoActive You can find every RAM accessory here. I dont know if everything is included.
  12. I have a Dell Axim X50v with GPSonar I use for caching. I am willing to test a new application.
  13. Spanky The Geocaching Jack Russell acompanies us on many of our hunts.
  14. I enjoyed the He's Alive series in Gatlinburg. It has been a year since I have been up there, I am sure there are now even more great caches.
  15. I buy small notebooks and cut them down to size with sissors.
  16. I had forgotten I started this thread. Any how, we are back home. 2800 miles. 8 States. We met lots of nice folks along the way, saw some beautiful scenery, had a flat tire near Greenville MS, and even got a few caches in.
  17. While it is not as rough as a ATV off road, I have had my 60cs RAM mounted on the handlebar of my HD VROD motorcycle in all kinds of weather for about 5,000 miles over a year without any adverse effects. I also RAM mount it on my hardtail mountain bike. It gets pretty grimy after 8 hours on the road in the rain, but it always cleans up nicely. I bet you will get excellent service from your 60cs on your ATV.
  18. We leave Sat morning and will be gone 2 weeks on the motorcycle. We will visit Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and Florida. I hope to find a few caches in each state. If you see a silver HD loaded down with too much stuff, wave at us. Happy caching! JT & PJ
  19. I agree this should be a category. I proposed the same thing 8-16-05. I have not seen the locationless moved over.
  20. I've had the Axim X50v in a Rhino case for about a year. My Ax allows me to go paperless for just about everything, including Geocaching I have GPSSonar and Pocket Streets loaded for caching. I use it with my Garmin 60CS. The Bluetooth is kinda cool but I have not found many uses for it -yet. It is paired with my cellphone to transfer pictures and contacts. The sync'ing with a PC works best for me when the USB cable is plugged in directly to the PC and not thru a USB hub. Sync'ing with BT or WiFi works but has been problematic for me. So I stick to wired sync'ing. The WiFi is the coolest part by far. WiFi hotspots are turning up everywhere. Try aximsite dot com.
  21. I would like to propose that Lighthouses be added as a category. Lighthouses are purpose built structures, providing aid to navigation long before a GPS could guide you to your destination. Most are still active aids to Navigation today. Visiting a Lighthouse is an experience to remember. They are located in beautiful locations and offer a glimpse into our past. Many are historic places as well, some over a hundred years old. They can be found in coastal areas all around the world. There are over 1000 in the United States alone.
  22. Here are a couple just off the Interstate, from South to North, and some typical excuses that I use GCH013 take a break GCCEC1 stop for gas GCPBQE places to eat GC6BD5 at the outlet mall GCH7XN gotta stop cause we just ate Have fun
