  1. Wow! All the answers on one post. Now I'm a happy camper (er, cacher). I have joined, am a Premium member. Pocket queries... that's what I wanted. Now if I can break away from the rubbing the head and patting the tummy (or whichever way it goes) I do all your suggested operations and be 'good to go'. If this comes up on the SD thread (I also posted ot over there), I'll consider the problem already solved. Thanks coming to the rescue. Cheers, Mike Assuming that you have a computer and that your computer uses Windows XP then do the following things. A. Rub your head and pat your tummy, you know, at the same time. B. Become a Geocaching premium member. There's an "Activate your membership" link on the Geocaching.com home page. Also you'll see that there's a 30-day free trial membership offer. C. Learn to Build Pocket Queries using a link that's on Premium Members "My Account" page. D. Download and install GSAK software from - GSAK Software Link You can either run GSAK as a trial version or pay a small fee for a supported version. E. Once you have GSAK installed and a Pocket Query email in hand load the .GPX file into GSAK. F. Connect your 60Csx to your computer using the supplied USB cable. G. On the GSAK Menu Bar Select "GPS/Setup" and then set "GPS Brand" to "Garmin," check the "GPSr is USB" checkbox, and then click OK. H. On the GSAK Menu Bar select "GPS/Send." With any luck you'll then see some dialog screens showing the pocket-query waypoints being transferred to your GPS. On the other hand, if your computer is an iMac then drill back into recent pages of the San Diego Banter thread and find a useful discussion between SD ROwdies and Boysnbarrie. New subject, consider mapping software. Stop me if you know this ... you will want to load detailed regional maps into your Garmin 60Csx, otherwise you will only have major traffic arteries but no street navigation nor point-of-interest information. To enjoy the benefits of street navigation consider the following. A. Add a 2-GByte memory-expansion card to your Garmin 60Csx unit. B. Purchase and install Garmin MapSource "City Navigator North America" software. C. Learn how to load Regional maps from MapSource to your GPS unit. The 2-GByte memory-expansion card will accept all of the MapSource Regional maps at once for continental USA, Hawaii, and Alaska. New subject, consider paperless Geocaching using a PDA. I'll wait until you ask about this issue before going into it. A good place for this discussion is the "San Diego Banter" Forum Thread. Feel free to use any of the San Diego Threads, that way you'll be in touch with knowledgeable locals all willing to help. Now, this is a pretty big dose of information so just start asking for clarification as needed. You can stop rubbing your head and patting your tummy now. Nice job on that. Harmon SD Rowdies
  2. I posted this on the main Southwest site then remembered a suggestion to post here- with fellow geocachers in the San Diego area. So here goes. I just got a Map60CSx and can't figure out how to transfer the cache site info from my iMac to the GPS. Would someone mind spelling out the basics of this or point me to some FAQ's that address this question? I know it's Basic 101 but I can't see where the info is located on geocaching.com. I'm in North County, Fallbrook, and really appreciated the help I got a few days ago when I was struggling to get my first find. What agreat activity and nice bunch of friendly, helpful people. Many thanks, Mike
  3. Would someone take a minute to give me the basics on this, or send me to an FAQ in the subject of transferring cache sites on Geocaching.com electronically to my GPS? I just got a brand spanking new GPS Map60CSx and don't know how to transfer the files. I know it goes from the website to the gps via the USB cable but I don't know how to set it up. Guidance is obviously needed. In 2 weeks we're headed for Annapolis and there are lots of caches cleverly hidden around and near the harbor, where we'll be staying. It should be fun... maybe I'll even find a couple. Here in Niorth County I seem to get close but my newbie eyes are not 'tuned up' yet. Yup, I know, practice makes perfect... I'm working on it-with occassional help from some of you fine people. Thanks in advance, Mike
  4. Thanks for the cheer. Yup, I'm finally in the 'win' column. I think was looking too hard- now it's take a breath and just look around. Found 2 more today. I'm hooked. Mike/Traveller 689
  5. ------------- Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check the setup, and right now, I do enter coordinates manually. I'm getting a Garmin 60CSx soon and then will input electronically.
  6. Thanks to all who have answered my post and offered suggestions. Some I had thought of and many I had not. Looks like you all have me on the right track, now I just need to look more carefully when I get close to the 'spot'.Geocachers are a nice bunch of folks. I'm impressed when reading the forum groups how polite everyone is to each other... as opposed to many other groups using the internet. Cheers, Mike
  7. New guy. Knows how to operate his eTrex Summit. Lives in Fallbrook. Has looked for caches near roads and parking lots he is familiar with... and is 0 for 5 so far. What the heck could I be doing wrong? I've done all the suggested actions ie: Cloverleaf back and forth at the location, etc., and still no success. I enjoy reading all the posts on the different forums and 'share' the satisfaction of each person's new find. Now, I'd like to have one of those experiences myself. I know this is Basic Stuff 101, but I'd really appreciate and few minutes of anyone's time. This summer I'll have a chance to cross the country from Oceanside to Annapolis and look forward to being able to do some caching along the way. So you see, I'll have to know a little more than I do right now or I'll come home zero for a hundred or so and I'm not looking forward to that. Thanks, Mike
