  1. Yeah, that's right. I got this info from reading logs of folks that had made this run. This was several weeks ago, and perhaps it was just after all of the rain that that area had back then.
  2. I came across a stretch of highway in Louisiana where there was a cache every .1 mile for several miles, over 150 caches in one stretch. The only catch is that for most you probably have to wade in water several inches deep, depending on recent rainfalls. Can anyone suggest other areas where there are many caches on a stretch of highway???... as near to Tennessee as possible Thanks in advance K4HHA
  3. Actually, I got a 104 page owners manual, and a quick start guide, but no "how to" disk. This one has version 4.1 software.
  4. I am a new owner of a 60Csx. and am somewhat disappointed in the "out of the box" performance for Geocaching.... but how do you turn the compass "OFF". I cannot find any options anywhere that will let me turn the compass "OFF". I changed it to Bearing on the pointer and North up on tracks, but no "OFF" setting. Help... Thanks... K4HHA
  5. How did you set up the automated process to monitor this??? TIF....
  6. Looking to buy an inexpensive gsp for grandson.. considring a Garmin Etrex Legend (the blue one with black and white display, etc)... I understand that this is a serial interface, which is OK.. Question is... if I load a list of geocaches into this unit using GSAK, do these appear on the gps as the geocache name, the geocache number, of just a waypoint number. Would this unit be OK for a beginner (10 years old)?? if not, would appreciate suggestions ($100 or less) Thanks....
  7. I also did the free nuvi deal. I already had the vista hcx and I use the Nuvi for going paperless. I still use the Vista as my main geocaching GPSr but I use the nuvi for the car and I just pull it out of my backpack when ever I need more info on a cache. there is a macro plugin that you can use with GSAK that loads all of your caches with all the info, spoiler pics and logs automatically. Hey... what is the name of the macro plug-in, and is it on the GSAK web site??? TIF K4HHA I believe it's located in the macro list on the GSAK website. Here is a link to the discussion here on the forum. Well, after wading through the discussion on the link you gave me, and reading through the tutorial, I got my 200 all loaded up and running!!! Thanks for your help...

  9. I subscribed to the Notifications of finds in my area, and I am receiving e-mails for such, but in some, if not most of the e-mails the text is blank. On others, I receive text showing the log entry, and all. I cannot determine what the difference is in the ones that have text and the ones that don't. Can someone give me a clue... ? TIF!!!!
  10. Have Colorado 300 with 2.60 software. I know someone here has the answer to this - Sometimes when I go to Geocaching and it lists the caches we have little red arrows, and at other times it only gives the direction as "N", or "SW", etc. What causes the difference in the display? Thanks in advance
  11. Yep, mine does it too. Not too frequently, but I also have an SD card with City Navigator (no topos tho), and the solution I use, like you, is to take one or both batteries out for a little while - 10 or 15 seconds and try it again. I do not know if this is a known issue with Garmin or not.
  12. OK - I loaded into GSAK the waypoints that I had in the Etrex, and these listed over the 1000 limit, but many of them were listed twice, with slightly different information. I have transferred from GSAK waypoints "on top of" those alreay in the Etrex, thinking it would merely replace the file already in the Etrex memory. Now..... how can I delete all the waypoints in the Etrex internal memory, and "start over" with a new transfer from GSAK? Thanks for prompt response.... Never mine..... I got it done!! Thanks to all...... Oh, I forgot, I deleted all waypoints, then re-loaded the list from GSAK, and now.... no "memory full" message... all is good....

  15. Have Garmin Extrex HCx with 2.6 software. Loading about 700 waypoints using GSAK(GPS-Send Waypoints) to unit and get "Finished OK" on GSAK progam and "Waypoint memory full" message at bottom of screen on the ETrex. I have a 1 gig micro SD card installed, and the screen shows "USB Mass Storage" at the bottom of Setup,Inteface screen. The "card info" screen shows all memory available, nothing written to it. What's the deal?? Will the Etrex not write waypoint info to the SD card?
  16. After you enter the comments there doesn't seem to be a way to view or edit them on the Colorado. You need to connect the Colorado to your computer and read the geocaching_visits.txt file or upload this to Groundspeak/GSAK to see the comments as part of your fieldnotes. GO$Rs Well, this is what I kinda was coming to the conclusion to. Seems kinda silly to add the abililty to create comments, and then not be able to view, or edit them.... Oh, well, leave it to Garmin.....
  17. Garmin 300 with Beta 2.54 software...... Maybe I'm just missing something obvious, but how do you access the "comments" you log (from within the Garmin 300) when you do log attempt using "add comments" after logging "found"?
  18. Thanks for quick response(s)!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. Am I missing something, or is it possible to enter coordinates manually on a Colorado 300, software = beta2.51.....? TIF
  20. Have Colorado 300 with 2008 City Map NT. I live in East TN. Software version Beta 2.51. I am confused on what the settings should be on Posiion Format, Map Datum, and Map Spheroid accessed via Setup - Position Format screen. I am not sure what the default settings were, as I have messed with them since the unit was new. TIF for any input.
  21. Actually, one cache I was playing with is NOT marked "found" on the website, but I marked it found in the Colorado, then put it back in the unfound in the colorado, and the hint is gone -- web site still shows it as unfound. I deleted (in Explorer) the file name in the Garmin directory, then "sent to GPS" from the web page - still not marked found on the web page - but the hint is gone when displaying on the Colorado. GSAK does not show it found on their spreadsheet B4 transferring to Colorado. Something in the Colorado marks this file as found, and when displayed, does not give the hint option. Not the biggest deal in the world, just a mystery......
  22. Geezzzzzz.. Sorry to hear that. Maybe will be corrected in next release. Tel me then, why will it not display hint info when you delete the file and re-load fresh? Does the Colorado write this info in another file or something that prevents new file from displaying? Still puzzled by this..
