  1. Its probably just me then. Its too late for me to do anymore searching so back to america it goes
  2. I am out of luck. I brought a geocoin to place in France but I dont think my GPS is working properly. I am unable to locate ANY caches here. I am going to have to bring the coin back to the states. Is it possible to log a coin with coordinates only so that I can show that I brought it here? Thanks, Chris
  3. I am in France (Marseille) on vacation until sunday. I dont think my Garmin is working too well here. I have gone out looking for 4 caches always no find. I dont think its even getting me within e good range as I am not finding even remotely what I expect. Please contact me as soon as possible if I can hand this coin off to you somehow. Thanks! Chris
  4. I have two computers - one at home and one at work. Both run XP - one pro and one home On both computers the USB driver needs to install AMLOST every time I plug the darn thing in. If I plug the Garmin in and install then unplug and back in then it does not reinstall the driver. If I install and unplug but either plug into another usb port or plug something else into the same usb port it will reinstall the usb driver again. This is quite bothersome. Anyone else seen this? Thanks Chris
  5. Not sure if this is a good fit here or not.... I posted it in trading but its not really a trade so..... My wife and kids really enjoy caching with me and I want to start a collection and get a coin for each of us off on an adventure.... For the adventure coins I am looking for 4 coins - style not overly important just not some plain old coin surprises would be fine To start our collection I want to find For my five year old son - something with a pirate theme or shark theme For my 8 year old daughter something with fairies or the like for me something with a dragon for my wife something either french in nature or of a cute cuddly critter Can anyone help me get started - I tried ebay for a few days and I am usually pretty good at bidding but geocachers are a tenacious bunch and dont let coins get away easily I also dont really want to buy from an online store as no one store can really fill my needs and I sure dont want to pay shipping multiple times.... Thanks in advance! Chris
  6. Hello all! I made a post in the wants/trades area for geocoins. It quickly got lost under a mountain of others posts all of which were also valid. I cant help but notice the HUGE number of posts in that particular thread. This seems terribly out of proportion to the post counts in most of the other threads. I think it might be a good idea to break this down into multiple threads or better yet - sections. For instance if someone has a trade list they should really have their own thread just for their lists - it would be much easier to manage for that person than having it all jumbled in with the others. I am just starting to collect and get geocoins for my family and I and I dont have anything to trade - for people like me maybe just a purchase/sell thread or section. Heck that would even be a great place for people to announce their ebay sales. An area purely for active trading (not lists like above) would also be very cool! Keep in mind these are just my thoughts that would make it much easier for me to navigate the site. It is entirely possible I am missing the obvious and you already have these concerns/ideas covered. Thanks for listening to my ramblings! Chris p.s. thanks for helping me get into this great hobby!
  7. Hello everyone - fairly new to this so if this is not the right place to make this request I am sorry please direct me to the right place! 8. Very cool! Thanks guys I will look into the suggestions! Chris
  9. Hello! My dad really wants to do some geocacheing. Only thing is that he wants a gps that he can also mount to his motorcycle for directions. I know the Nuvi's are not good for that because they are not resistant to water hardly at all. Do you have any suggestions? We would like to stick with Garmins because of compatability with geocacheing.com if at all possible. Thanks in advance! Chris
  10. He wasnt holding a yellow cell phone to his ear by chance was he Seriously though anything suspicious I would skeedaddle. Maybe carry one off those mini air horns to attract attention if needed in an emergency... just a thought. Chris
  11. There is one particular cache that my kids like to revisit from time to time to see people that logged and check for swag to trade. I have not logged the revisits. I do plan on revisiting this one to drop a couple bugs too Chris
  12. Great! For some reason I thought that one (citynavigator) didnt work on the venture hc - I will have to look into that.
  13. Actually I know a couple other cachers where I work and I was going to see if they wanted to help me spread them around - if I couldnt get my own hotel going. The park I am considering is a slightly rundown park in front of an old YMCA (that used to be the old high school) so I think it might be a good candidate. Now that I have a few finds under my belt I am getting better at finding good locations so when I get back I will give it a good looking over to see if its relly suitable or not - then spread them out as needed Chris
  14. Is anyone aware of any mapping software similar to topo for the Garmins For France (if it covers other countries so much the better)? I am specifically looking for something that will have roads and whatnot - topography is nice but not needed. I have the Garmin Venture HC so it would need to be compatible with that. Thanks! Chris
  15. very cool - thanks I would never set that kind of restriction and if someone does set that restriction I hope it gets ignored by other cachers I did pick up one coin that I will be holding onto for over a month - it wants to go to France and I will be going there in late July. I emailed the owner and asked permission to hold onto it for that long.... Thanks for this site - its very informative Chris
  16. I am in Denver training for business. I am picking up several coins/tb's that I can help out in their goals. Is there any kind of base ettiquette as to how many I can hold onto so I can take them back to wisconsin for dispersal? Also when picking these up should I be doing one for one trades on them like when I take my kids and they trade an item for an item? I have quite a few coins/TB's in my possession already.... I am considering opening a cache in a nearby park (about two blocks away) at home as a cache and dash (ammo box sized) hotel to help bugs move quickly through the area. If I do this can I just start it with my current holdings? Thanks! Chris
  17. This does work! However I think I found a slightly easier solution I opened any cache in france - zoomed out to a pretty high level where it will not show caches due to number found. Center on area I want to take a looksy then zoom in Thanks! Chris
  18. Hello! I plan on going to France in August and want to look up some caches to search out. However I am not finding a good way to find them based on location. In the US I can look it up by zip (or even better by google maps) I look up france and it gives me over 5000 hits. Any pointers for me? Thanks! Chris
