  1. My opinion, for what it's worth.... Should you have (or need) to explicity state on the cache page that you have permission? If it's on someone's private property (ie, in their yard or near someone's home, or where NT signs are posted) - YES Everything else, including parks, parking lots, etc - NO Personally, I don't care if it's stated on the cache page. I cache with the mindset that permission, whether adequate or explicit, is understood.
  2. No, you aren't the only one. My husband and I actually had this very discussion a few days ago. I told him I wanted a cache hidden right on my tombstone when I'm gone. I don't care. Come visit me. I'd love to have cachers come by every now and then to say hi! We don't mind cemetery caches at all... no different than anywhere else to me... but I won't go there at night, sorry.
  3. If I sued for every time I tripped, hurt myself, cut my legs open on briars, got poison ivy, etc, etc while hunting a cache... I'd be rich. Caching is done at our own risk. What is wrong with some people? This is exactly why many land owners/agencies won't allow caches on their property, the liability risk isn't worth it.
  4. Wow, that's about as annoying as the Llama song... http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/llama
  5. LOL, thanks for the laugh. So true!
  6. Hmmm... good thing Dave Ulmer didn't have to pass a test or none of us would be caching now would we?
  7. I understand what you mean about it not being fair that they logged it w/o the work. If it were me, I'd be ticked too but not sure I'd say anything. Maybe send the newbie loggers a friendly email, saying something like "Hey, my friend really wants to find that TB so he can log the cache too, and since I see you were the last to have it, would you mind telling us which cache you dropped it into?" That should get the point across to them and maybe their conscience will kick in.
  8. I always cache in shorts. And thankfully have only gotten PI once, and it was terrible. I also recommend the Ivy Dry spray. It takes a few days but will dry it up. Also take Benadryl to help with the allergic reaction. For what it's worth, here is a tip a friend gave me, and since I started doing this, no more PI reactions: if you think you've been exposed to urushiol, clean the area as soon as you can with rubbing alcohol. This is supposed to help remove the oil. I keep a bottle and an old wash cloth in the car and wash down with alcohol after caching in areas with PI present. So far, it's working for me.
  9. Every single time we've found batteries in a cache they're corroded. I would NOT leave batteries!
  10. I think it's a great idea. We've only found one book in a cache. That's a much better swag alternative than the broken mctoys, pens that won't write, single earrings, and various other yucky stuff we find most often.

    Rat TB

I'm sorry for the loss of your pet and sorry someone was so cruel as to tell you they were glad he died. I love snakes and have had many pet pythons over the years (um, yeah we fed them mice, sorry!) but people don't understand having them as pets either. When my last one died I had a few folks say the same thing. I think the laminated picture of Branden, attached by keychain to the TB, is a great idea. Most of the TB's we find are in plastic bags, so even if you go with a realistic or plush rat, you could put it in a baggie and hope for the best. Good luck!
  12. Right. Should you later decide not to have a car TB you can release it as a normal TB with a tag. Releasing a tag and having a car TB with the same number wouldn't be within guidelines. Thanks for the clarification!
  13. I agree with you 100% and that's the reason I don't post much on here. (Apparently you and I are in the minority in thinking these attacks aren't necessary... but I bet we're not, the others just don't speak up.) New people come in and ask simple questions and get jumped right away by the old-timers. I've seen a lot of that as of late as well... people asking for advice on puzzles (if you don't know, you don't know) and being told it's 'bad form' to ask for help, asking advice on how to handle bad situations with other cachers, and many other topics, such as this one. For some reason the posters, who have valid questions, get flamed for asking those questions, like they should have known better. How is one supposed to learn something or know 'proper form' etc unless they ask? This board is not filled with lots of friendly helpful fellow cachers like I had hoped it would be. Ok, go ahead and flame me. I'm not a veteran cacher and I haven't been on here long so I must not know anything, right? I just don't understand why politeness goes out the door on public forums. To the OP, you can check your local tax assessor website and see who in fact owns the property where the cache is located, it's public record. If the cache owner doesn't seem to care if others are in jeopardy, maybe your best bet is to send a note to the reviewer. (For what it's worth, from what you described, those quarry guys did behave inappropriately. Hmm, sounds familiar... you were there innocently, not meaning harm, and got rudely run off... kinda like posting on the forums, eh?) Good luck.
  14. Ok, so let me get this straight. If you order a TB for your car (whether magnetic or decal) and it also comes with actual TB tags of the same number, do you actually 'release' the tags too? If it has the same number as your car, wouldn't that get confusing as to which someone 'discovered'? And what is the point of 'discovering' a car TB anyway, do you get extra points or smilies or whatever for the number of TB's you discover? I don't see anywhere that it really matters how many you've found/discovered/passed along. Sorry for so many questions!
  15. Hoping to get in before the thread closes.... What exactly happens at a Geowoodstock event? I understand it's a huge gathering, but what goes on? I've seen pics of tents set up, do people sell things? Are there games, competitions, etc? And is there an official log everyone signs to claim a smiley for attending? (LOL - if so, it must be huge!) Thanks
  16. Maybe this is a silly question, but how do you get the notifications sent to your phone as a text message? I looked and all I could find was how to get the emails, there is no place to enter your phone number to have a text message sent.
  17. I don't mean to hijack the thread, but what is the protocol for logging caches your child found as part of your team but now has their own account? For example, my 11 year old son wants his own account, and has been with us for most of our finds, even finding several himself. Can he go back and log those finds under his new name, even though he didn't have a geo-nick at the time to sign the log book with? We signed with our team name. Any thoughts?
  18. Yes, it is... anywhere 'legal' that's not on private property and not in a place that already has micros. That is my dilemma, all the micros in the parks/public areas around here. Thanks everyone for your advice.
  19. Done. Holy cow, 12 checked greater than 90? I hope I'm still caching at that age!
  20. Greywolf, I really have nothing to add but just wanted to say that I have been following your threads lately about this issue and I do feel for you. I know it is frustrating and annoying for this to happen, but sometimes things like this happen and we have no control over it. We just have to accept it and move on. I know your intentions are good. I know you love the sport and want to add to it. For that I commend you. And I also know the reviewers love the sport and want to do what's best for it also. There is no win/win situation here. They've already told you repeatedly they think it's over-saturation on your part, based on the emails from them you posted on another thread. I know you don't agree and you give valid arguments as to why your caches should be listed. And from what you've told us, I agree with you that they should, but it's ultimately left up to the reviewer. And further discussions and repeatedly bringing this matter up won't solve anything. TPTB have their minds made up. It's unfortunate, but that's the way it is sometimes. Maybe you should look into listing your caches on another site. Don't get discouraged, keep on caching and don't let this whole incident stop you from doing what you enjoy. Best of luck to you.
  21. Holy toledo, that is one of the best ideas I've heard yet for a puzzle-at-the-cache cache. I hope you don't mind me borrowing that one! To the OP, I think your idea sounds great. Don't worry about how many puzzle finds you have. I only have one, but it's not from lack of solving them, it's from a lack of any in my area. I am also working on placing several myself, because I think there is a need for them here.
  22. I don't think that's very nice, but I certainly understand your logic/reasoning here. But for me, if I were to find a cache and hide it back exactly as I found it, yet the way I found it was not correct because Joe Cacher a few hours before me re-hid it wrong, and you deleted MY log because of it, I'd be one mad cacher!
  23. No mysterycoins for me either. Would love to have one!
  24. Um, did no one read what the OP posted in the Australian forum, as quoted in post #37? She has no intention of ever going back there. So why even hide a cache there are all???? Seems pointless to me if you cannot/will not maintain it.
  25. Do you have "Enable notification" checked on the notification page. Did you choose a Type to Watch. You have to tell it what kind to notify you about. Below is the 3 that I have for mine. Oops, I see you said you did, Sorry If you have one for Multi-cache and not have one for a Traditional Cache then a Traditional Cache is published you wont get a notification for a Traditional Cache. Hope this makes sense, I'm not good at explaining stuff like that. Log type(s): Publish Listing Event Cache Log type(s): Publish Listing Multi-cache Log type(s): Publish Listing Traditional Cache Yes to all of the above... but I think I found out what the problem is. Apparently you can only get notifications for caches published w/in a 50 mile radius, not 100 as I had specified. I went back to double check them all and they all said 50. So I tried changing and it went back to 50 each time. I guess there haven't been any published recently w/in 50 miles of me, but a little more than 50 (like 55), yes. Oh well. Thanks for everyone's help.
