  1. Is the app on your 3GS updated to the most recent version (4.5.9)? With the changes GS made to the API a while back, older versions of the app will no longer work. So....that's why my iPhone 3GS isn't working! I'll try downloading the app again!
  2. I recall reading about a cache in New Zealand or Australia that is used by folks who want to put miles on a missing TB.....but I can't remember its name???

Do finds of NGS (and other) benchmarks that we record in geocaching.com's database....or Waymarking.com's database ever make it to the NSRS database that's mentioned in the letter?

Not that we know of. Again, you can check for past postings about that in the other forum. This one is for questions to the NGS folks; the other one is where the general benchmark discussions happen. Patty
  5. I've tried the erase button on the log notes page many times....and it says "this cannot be undone!" but it manages to undo my erase each time I upload field notes. I do notice that the notes seen to be of a fairly recent vintage....is there some control page where you can tell the website how long to keep displaying old field notes????
  6. I'm still getting them....I believe?

    Home Coordinates

Since the new website update...I've not been able to relocate my home coordinates within 20 miles!!! I've tried repeatedly, with all formats for my home coordinates....and the silly system keeps moving me 20 miles North?
  9. Since I didn't discover this contest till today....I'll be the first spectator!

    My GPS

Is there a link to the place where I can go to rate the various GPSrs that I have used?

    (NC*)?

I've been caching for a while....but I cannot find a reference to the meaning of the (NC*) in many cache titles?

No, it's now eight years old. Nope. Reporting the status of survey marks to the NGS is an entirely separate activity that requires a much higher degree of accuracy than posting a log on geocaching.com--especially when you want them to designate a mark destroyed. You can see further discussions about NGS reports in this forum and in the main Benchmark Hunting forum. (Mostly in the latter, since your initial questions are likely to be answerable by other benchmarkers and not require input from NGS representatives.) Patty Thanks for the response....I guess I'll have to become more involved, if my efforts are to bear any real fruit. I'm originally from Snohomish, Washington, and we now full-time RV all over the continent....with diesel prices being what they've gotten too....we've been lurking near our children, who both live in NW Oregon. We're headed South in January. Legally, we are domiciled in Texas. Is there an effort to update geocaching.com's data base?

    Welcome Letter

I'm fairly new to geocaching, but I love looking for benchmarks...they're usually in remote places. I have two questions: 1) Is the database at geocaching.com still 5 years old? ( I'm actually getting my benchmarks from http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/ds_archive.prl and displaying them using "Watcher" gpx software) That way I can find the ones closest to where I happen to be at the moment. 2) Are the finds, and "mark destroyed" reports I'm making to geocaching.com getting through to NGS?
  14. For some reason, the TB is shown to be in Unknown Location, so the first thing you need to do is to get it into your inventory. To do this, go to the TBs page and log a 'Grab it from somewhere else'. Next go to the cache page where you left it, and post a Note. At the bottom of the 'Post a new log' page is a list titled 'Dropped off any travel bugs?' This list shows all TBs in your inventory. Highlight the bug you dropped, and then click 'Submit log entry'. Hope this helps. When I try to "GRAB" it, the system required a tracking number, and when I enter it, the system says my number doesn't match the TB's identity?
  15. Newbie has a problem. The new TB is in the cache....but the cache's website doesn't know it....
  16. So far, I've not received any emails for the watch lists I've joined????
  17. Thanks....I never noticed that
  18. Each time I pull up a cache, It tells the that the cache is 59+miles west of "my home" I'm currently in Pacific City, OR....and I've tried inserting the city name, and later the coordinates...nothing changes where it thinks I am. I'm running XP on a Dell D520 laptop the same problem occurs whether I use the latest version of Firefox or v 7.0.5730.13 of IE Is there some other place besides "my profile" where I insert my "home?"
