  1. On my GC.com main page, "Nearby Events" used to show up in the first box under Quick Searches ("Most Favorited" and "Newest Caches" show up in the other two boxes). For some time now Traditionals shows up in that first box. Is there a way to get Events to show back up in that box?
  2. I am no longer receiving notifications when my owned caches are found or when new caches in my area are placed. I have the proper request for notification for several types of new caches but the notifications never come any more (they used to). Also, I have not received a notification for one of my caches being found for several months. I just looked up a couple of my caches and there were recent finds (as recent as yesterday). Any ideas why I am no longer receiving notifications
  3. I tried it again today and it showed up on my edit page. I tried the checker and it is only a coordinates checker, not a challenge checker. I must agree with fizzymagic as the gc checker does not do what I want it to.
  4. I am trying to add a geocaching.com solution checker to some of my existing Mystery Caches. The instructions say go to your Mystery Cache, go to edit the cache, and click the box "Display the solution checker on the cache page". This works for a new Mystery cache but there is no such box on the edit page for existing Mystery Caches. Any ideas on how to do this?
  5. Looking for an old Colorado GPS that doesn't work that I can scrounge some parts from. The part I need most is the internal antenna. Also would like the USB port working but I know this is often the part that fails on a 300 or 400. I can repair the USB port on my 400t if I have to. Will pay a modest price plus shipping. Please contact me by email at larsslc@msn.com. Thanks.
  6. What happened to the "Take me to the Old Search" option on the main geocaching page? I have been caching for 8 years and when they changed to the new main page a couple of years ago, I was glad they kept the old search as an option because it had many features that the new search option does not have. One I really like was the radius of the search was 100 miles not just 1000 caches. It allowed you to search in many different ways that the new search does not have, such as search another cacher's finds. Within the last week or so the "Take me to the Old Search" option disappeared from the main page. Are there any other cachers that miss it and want it back?
  7. I have just become aware of a cacher who logged 330 Virtual caches in one day. Strange thing is these caches were in the states of Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Nevada, Idaho, California, and New Mexico. The cacher may claim he found those caches over a period of days and just logged them all on one day, but on previous and subsequent days he logged other caches. I have found several of those virtual caches. One that I recently found takes a whole day to drive to and back and an hour to hike to the cache (Savanic Mine). There are many other caches he claimed that are just as difficult to get to. In my estimation it would take a least a month to drive to those 330 caches, hike to the locations where needed, and find the information needed to log the caches. His log on all of the caches was the same. I know that some cachers in Arizona are upset about these logs (see Photograph Arizona). In the past, when such wholesale bogus logs are discovered and GS is contacted, they have been reluctant to do anything about it. In the west many cachers participate in the Lonely Cache Project. Caches accrue points based on how infrequently they are found. Bogus logs can cut the point values of these caches in half. Bogus logs can ruin this fun geocaching game alternate. I know cache owners can delete bogus logs, but I have found that often they don't, even when contacted. I would hope that premium members would be upset enough about bogus logs to push GS to do more about it.
  8. Power trails are a way to have a day of fun caching and concentrated finding. Most that I have done could be completed in a few hours or at most a day. Now comes along the mega power trail. There is a new one in the California desert that has almost 600 caches in it and would take a week of caching to complete. That many caches which are likely the same might become boring. Just my opinion.
  9. I can't figure out if there are only 200 occasional users of Google Earth KML, that it could slow down GC.com that much. I believe there are many many more users than that. I use it several times a week. Much of the information is available on the Google Maps in GC.com except one important feature - the distance ruler. That is a valuable tool when placing caches in areas where there are other caches (you don't just get the rough estimate you get on Google Maps but a precise distance) and when planning caching trips to areas of remote caches you can find the distances accurately. If you could add this feature to the Google Maps on GC.com that would help a lot. Otherwise, it would be very nice if Google Earth KML feature could somehow be reinstated to Google Earth. Thanks for your consideration. larsslc
  10. I have a Colorado 400 and the only way to delete found caches is to connect the GPS to your computer, go into my comupter and find your Garmin storage unit (on mine it it drive E), then click on garmin and gpx, that will bring up all of the the caches you have loaded on your GPS. Then you have to have a list of the cache numbers you have found and want to delete, and then delete these one by one. I have asked Garmin to come up with an easier way to delete found caches (similar to the way you can delete waypoints) but to date they haven't done it. larsslc
