  1. Thanks for all the responses. Quite interested in the viewpoints. Intrigued about your "Psycho Backcountry Cache #3" but unfortunately seems to be a restricted cache so will have to leave that one to the imagination. Thanks, Jerry.
  2. Just a quick question. Is there actually anything in the rules to prevent placement in dangerous locations? I cannot actually find anything that specifically asks this. There are questions about locations deemed as terrorist targets etc. If there is, why are the moderators not picking up on it? I have recently briefly visited a cache which was on the side of a main road (crash barrier). I was unwilling to pursue the search any further for personal safety reasons, and in this case have asked the cache owner to reconsider the location, but cannot actually find in the rules that the cache should not be here (other than common sense). Regards Jerry (Xixau).
  3. Thanks for the replies. I will wait a while longer and see what happens. Regards Jerry.
  4. Does anyone know who is currently reviewing new caches for Queensland, Australia? I have posted a cache a week ago and it still has not been looked at. How do I contact a reviewer? Any help appreciated, Jerry (Xixau).
  5. Hi Red, I am here, but don't often visit the forums as there never seems to be anyone here ! I think that they may all be in hiding Jerry.
  6. I highly reccomend the Map76. I have also got a Venture and had used the eTrex Vista prior to buying the Map76 to see what the mapping would be like on the small etrex's. I found that the eTrex screens were a little too small to see the map detail. The Map76, I have now used in the UK and in Australia and never had any problem with maps. We have recently driven from Brisbane to Melbourne over two days and there was plenty of memory for a full days driving. The interface is also good and you can switch the buttons to beep when they are pressed, so you can hear key presses when driving rather than be reliant on watching the unit. I also use an external antenna so rarely loose signal except in the thickest forests. It has now also become my primary caching GPS, and works fantastically well. I cannot fault it (maybe a built in internet connection would be good for all those times that you forget to print off the clues and can't find the cache!) Jerry.
  7. Ah, too good to be true. I have just found this post, but get 'Unrecognised Format' when I try to goto the bookmark. Only in the country another week, so not worth buying new hardware Jerry.
  8. Thanks Stuey, I have now managed to purchase a new copy of Mapsource from a place in the US. Even after shipping and getting stung by the UK Customs, it still came out cheaper than purchase here in the UK. We are emigrating to Brisbane in January, so wanted the maps to find my way around. I am not sure how much caching I will get done in the first instance, but am setting a travel bug in the UK to try to find its way there. I will bear your comments in mind regarding the cunning hiding places. Regards Jerry (Xixau).
  9. That is one superb website, thanks for putting that up! Jerry.
  10. I just did my first posting yesterday, and when I look at the tread, there is a 'Warn 0%' comment next to my name ? What have I done wrong to deserve a warning ? Jerry.
  11. I know that there will be a lot of people who suggest that this post goes onto the Australia forum, but I actually think it more appropriate here... Does anyone have a copy of the Metroguide Australia for whatever reason, that they do not require, and are willing to sell on? Would prove very useful as we are heading off that way in Jan, and would like to know where we are going. Regards Jerry (Xixau)
  12. I use MM too, but have recently bought an alternative called FUGAWI UK, which I have to say works superbly too. The advantage that I have found to this is that you can 'draw' tracks on the PC then upload them to the GPS, something which I have never worked out how to do with MM. I know that with MM you can draw routes, but no of waypoints is limited in most GPS's where tracks give better accuracy, which I find an essential requirement. Also FUGAWI covers the entire UK OS 1:50,000 in 4 discs, and Wilts is not on the border as Andy has pointed out above. Jerry.
  13. Should off-set caches be marked as Multi-Caches? I was under the impression that the 'Cache Types' page indicated that they should, but it seems that some of them are not marked as such. What do people think? The reason this came to light for us, was that we had a last minute opportunity to going off caching on Saturday. Unfortunately we did not have the chance to print off all the paperwork, so we deliberately avoided Multi's. However after a difficult drive and walk to one location, we found the exact spot, but no way that there could be a cache there. Reading the Site this morning revealed it as an Offset? Opening this up to opinions? Regards Jerry.
