The garmin etrex series are really good. I currently have a garmin etrex legend. It gets the job done. Looking to upgrade though. I am also in Iraq, on the VBC, my etrex legend comes with carrying case, all software, manuals, and cables. originally 200 dollars, looking to sell for 100.
