Trekking poles or hiking stick

In the last two months, I have made 5 nine mile hikes, and 1 five mile hike, with about a 20 lb. pack. I use two sticks--one pine, and one oak. I wouldn't consider them to be staffs, because they aren't very tall. I couldn't hike without them.
