  1. Sorry I should have provided more info. I am asking about caches and how the system identifies who has a FTF for new caches.
  2. After several years of Geocaching, we were fortunate enough to log our FTF. I am just wondering how these FTF are updated & identified in our stats, either Project -GC or the regular Geo stats? I noticed that you may find and sign the logbook first but by the time you post you find. others have post the find ahead of you. They are not claiming a FTF. Just not sure what triggers an FTF in the system. Is it something the CO must update or verify.
  3. Thanks for the reply. I have using a pen to start and close the GPS. This is working fine for now. Replacing the rear case appears to be a quite a job. I will leave this as a last resort. Good luck with yours.
  4. Can you set up Alerts when new caches are posted in your area, either an email or some other type of notification?
  5. I am finding more caches that are high up in a trees. At my age I am hesitant on climbing trees. I want to live to cache another day. Looking for recommendations for a portable ladders or other TOTT used to retrieve these caches.
  6. I am considering buying a new GPS Garmin GPSMAP66s. Does anyone have any comments concerning this model. I have a Montana650 and find the touch screen a pain to deal with. I have an old Garmin 60 GSMAP 60C and found that the buttons were very useful. I could use the unit with one hand. Both of my GPS are have issue with the power buttons wearing out. The promo say the 66s is good for paperless Geocaching. Does this mean I can download the logs and cache info onto the unit much like the Montana. Any comments appreciated
  7. Thanks for the replies. I will try the eraser fix. If that does not work I will order a new button
  8. The power button on my Montana 650 needs to be repaired. The rubber power button has warn off. I have to use pen to insert a pen to turn the unit on or off. Has anyone had this problem? Can you order parts for this unit? All comments appreciated.
  9. Hi I used to be a pretty avid geocacher until I have a few encounters with ticks. This unfortunately dampened my enthusiasm. I learned recently that you can purchase tick free clothing. How effect is this clothing? Does anyone have any recommendations where this type of clothing can be purchased. I am live in Ontario Canada. Any comments will be appreciated.
  10. If a cache is both owned and found by you, the found status wins and it will be displayed as a smiley. The only way you can change that is to delete any found logs. Personally, in the cases where this has happened for me, I just live with the cache showing as a smiley since the "found and owned" status is accurate.
  11. I recently adopted several caches from the previous CO most of them I had found previously. When looking at the Geo- Map How can you distinguish caches you own (adopted) from ones do not own?. All caches I adopted still appear with smilies , except for one. This cache was one I did not find. The cache symbol change to a "Star" once I adopted.
  12. I just came upon the designation of "charter member". Congrads to all you geo cachers who have maintained your Charter Member status. As an avid Geo-cacher all I can say is that I am a bit jealous but just like a FTF the spoils go to those who were there first. This does not take away my dedication or enjoyment of this ( dare I say) sport.
  13. Thanks for the reply. Mine is still working for the time.
  14. I have a garmin 60cx that still works fine. My only issue is that the on/off button is worn down and I have to use a pencil or some or item to get to turn off and on. Enough of the rubber button has worn off that it is difficult to use with just your finger. Does anyone have any ideas on a fix for this?
  15. Thanks for the help. I intend to mark mine as collectible.
  16. Thanks for the help , now this makes sense.
  17. It can be used in various ways, but the most common is, if you are placing it into a Geocache, make it not collectible. If you are keeping it, mark it collectible. "Collectible" then means "Is this in your personal collection, not going from cache to cache?" It's just for simplifying the options on the coin's menus. Another reason you might mark a coin "collectible" is if your coin is part of a set, and you wish to allow another cacher to carry the full set. He'd then add the coin to his collection, although you're still the owner, of course. The option allows easier management of Geocoins, particularly if you own a large number of them.
  18. I recently activated a logdog trackable attached the tag to her collar. One of the questions on the activation screen was... Is this TB collectible yes or no. Can some one explain what this means? It may be obvious but I do not get it. Thanks
