  1. That's what I'll probably do. My project shouldn't compete with any GS product (at least none that I currently know about) and in fact should enhance existing products/services. I'll need to go over the terms of use with a fine tooth comb before I release anything to the public but I'm pretty sure I'll be OK on that front.
  2. I don't know about the copyright issues, but in general the icons in those packs are too small for my uses.
  3. Yeah, I don't care for them either, and they don't have all of the right ones anyway. Aside from the quiz icon. Why dont you like them? An ammo box for a cache 2 for a multi wheels for a traveler web cam for a web cam ect. Seems pretty strait forward to me. It's probably more that I'm just too used to the Groundspeak icons and trying to get used to new ones will take some time...
  4. Yeah, I don't care for them either, and they don't have all of the right ones anyway.
  5. Licensing => $$$ => not going to happen
  6. I'm writing some geocaching related software and am in need of icons for the various geocache type (traditional, multi, etc). I don't want to infringe on Groundspeak's copyrights so I won't use the "official" cache type icons (like from http://www.geocaching.com/about/cache_types.aspx) so I was wondering if there were any sources for alternate icons out there. I'm not much of an artist so drawing some myself isn't an option either. The icons need to be licensed with a creative-commons or similar license.
  7. Does anyone have a cached copy of the HTML from http://ge.pythonmoo.co.uk/gcmap/internalmap.htm If we had that it'd be pretty easy to edit the GreasMonkey script and host the HTML somewhere else. Ironically, I had been thinking about doing that anyway because I wanted to experiment with some customizations...
  8. Hmm, anyone have a cached copy of the necessary files? Maybe I can arrange alternate hosting until The Edge gets back from walkabout.
  9. Anyone know what the status of the server is? I miss having OpenStreetMap maps when I'm looking at caches...
  10. 13 mile radius circle == 530 sq miles 16 mile radius circle == 800 sq miles I'd say that's pretty good...
  11. NOT good advice. Horrible advice since the adults could get separated again, get two guns. Oh, so now their son gets to be traumatized because their mom or dad shot some drunk guy and now is in jail. And don't think that self-defense will always get you off... Guns don't always make problems better, in fact many time they make them worse.
  12. OOPS.... I must be getting dyslexia in old age too I fixed the link, it should have been GC253MW.
  13. Anyone else out the publish themed Pi Day caches? I put one out there a day late, hopefully for 2011 I'll think of it before hand. I'm slightly disappointed though that the puzzle didn't take people a bit longer to solve. I'll have to work on a harder puzzle for the next one. Happy (Late) Pi Day Also, I'm a little disappointed that you can't use fancy character like "π" in cache titles/descriptions. [Edited to fix GC#]
  14. Is there a way to get OpenStreetMap maps on this page as well? http://www.geocaching.com/map/default.aspx...p;lng=-93.63134
  15. JF20938, what cache listing are you trying to view? The ordinance survey maps only work in the UK.
  16. For the heck of it I checked up one level in that directory structure. http://spatialreference.org/ref/epsg/ seems to list exactly what you want. There are tens, if not hundreds of thousands of different EPSG reference numbers. The question is which EPSG reference number corresponds to the coordinate systems used by geocaching.com...
  17. The waypoint conversions page will convert the cache coordinates from WGS84 to a number of other coordinate systems. For example: http://www.geocaching.com/wpt/?lat=41.7036...17&detail=1 converts the WGS84 coordinates to NAD27, WGS84/UTM, and "British Grid". I'm trying to perform similar conversions in my own software but it would help if I know the EPSG reference number for these various coordinate systems. For example, the standard WGS84 seems to be "EPSG:4326": http://spatialreference.org/ref/epsg/4326/ However, I'm not sure what the EPSG reference for the other coordinate systems should be. Can anyone help?
  18. It's not a dog, but DeLorme has an update for it's GPSs for detecting geocaches: http://blog.delorme.com/2009/04/01/press-r...es-gps-devices/
  19. You should check out the Degree Confluence Project: http://confluence.org/
  20. The coordinates that don't work are not using the degree symbol (unicode U+00B0), but are using the "masculine ordinal indicator" (unicode U+00BA) Some fonts render the masculine ordinal indicator as a small circle with a line underneath (which is what I see). Some fonts leave out the line and the masculine ordinal indicator is indistinguishable from the degree symbol.
  21. Hmm some of my mail from geocaching.com seems to be coming in now.
  22. Doh! And now you can't do anything, the main web site has a "down for maintenance" page up.
  23. Teflon tape works well too, but you'd need to replace the tape every time you opened/closed the cache.
  24. Add a "should be archived" note to the old cache. Set up your new cache and publish it. The reviewer should see the notes on the old cache and archive the old cache and publish your new one.
