  1. I think you place too much trust in the caching community....it would probably be taken within a week.
  2. That's amazing and crazy at the same time. I thought I had a long day with my personal best of 36! LOL!
  3. I've had the same problem....only my cache was an actual ACORN. I don't really know the type of tree that produces this nut but it's not your average small acorn. These are pretty big. They're about the size of a silver dollar. Anyhow, it kept getting muggled within a week but figured it was a squirrel. I had it jammed into a sizeable hole in the tree and you had to "feel" for the cache. You couldn't see it so that's why I figured a squirrel kept grabbing it. I moved it to another tree and it's been there ever since much to cacher's delight.
  4. Sometimes you get the cold shoulder 'round these parts. Go with the advice suggested...contact Reviewer and provide more insight and detail. Other than that, there's not much else you can do.
  5. The close-up of the word "FREE" gave me a hoot....thanks! []
  6. Is the coffee in the container or you get one seperate from the coffee container? Someone thought that Folgers had a lock-n-lock container as a promotional campaign but it never did come to fruition. My heart's not set on any particular brand of coffee so if it's the coffee container itself then I'm interested. No pics?
  7. I enjoy a long hike and finding an ammo can stuffed to the gills with swag and sig items. I like to have a seat and look through everything and enjoy the accomplishment of making the find. I was able to do that today being the FTF.
  8. My favorite will always be the "Ammo Can". To me, that's what comes to mind when you speak about geocache containers. Right now, I am TOTALLY loving a series in Ft.Worth dedicated to the "Lost" t.v. show. This couple have put a LOT of thought and effort into painting the ammo cans as well as putting "Dharma Initiative" logos on all of the swag. My FTF prize yesterday was an Oceanic flight 815 boarding pass. The hides aren't challenging at all but it's what they did with them that make them such a joy. I also like small containers (lock-n-locks) or even the evil film can when hidden exceptionally well.
  9. I have that one....an eTrex Legend. The 9-pin was fine for me on my other computer because I had an extra port. My new computer doesn't so I had to go to Radio Shack and get me an adapter from 9-pin to USB. The thing cost me about $30 though! I decided the cost far outweighed the amount of effort I had to take to type each one into my geep again. I was spoiled from just pointing and clicking and then having to go back to manual was time consuming.
  10. We have a "Triangulation" cache here in Ft. Worth, TX that I found. I'm not sure about your geep, but what I did was use the "mark" feature for each coordinate. Once I had the three coords marked on my geep, I went to the map feature and moved the arrow to what looked like the center of all three and pushed "mark" again. I didn't know I could do that so I was relieved (It took me 3.5 hours to complete cache but has become my most favorite cache so far). It had me within 15' of the actual container when I found it. Good luck.
  11. We each log our finds individually. The kids haven't created an account yet although my daughter is about to.
  12. It keeps the boards moving.....I enjoyed the laugh, personally.
  13. I, too, look forward to the FTF email for one of my caches. In fact, I enjoy ALL of the emails that I get from fellow cachers. I like to think that I helped bring a little fun/adventure to their lives by placing a cache for them to find. I especially like the comments more if I've put more effort into placing a cache.
  14. This is something that I've become aware of and seem to ALWAYS be getting onto a friend of mine about.....You don't have to "scorched Earth" and area to look for a cache! Even if it was in a flower garden....c'mon.....show SOME respect for property and not trample the vegetation or landscape. Unfortunately, there are always going to be people that ruin the fun for everyone. We just have to be in the majority.
  15. My first attempts at night caching were VERY bad....all DNF's. Over time, I gained some experience in cache locations/hiding spots and improved my finding skills much more. I also have an awesome flashlight. Now, I'd say I'm about 50/50 on daytime and nightime caching.
  16. 1searcher......this game is for you. I always wanted a metal detector so I figure we're from the same mold as far as hunting stuff. As far as not having a GPS, the only solution that I know of is to create an account......search for the caches nearest to your address......click on the map......then click "satellite" for the real world map. Then, have a good memory! It's how I got started in the game as well as a friend of mine. He had found over 100 caches that way until his mom and I pitched in to buy him a gps for his 18th birthday. Good luck to you!
  17. Sorry to hear about the cancer......I hope that it doesn't return. I, too, would want to visit the APE cache in Washington as well as visit Groundspeak. It's where the party started! I hope to attend GW8 next year so I can find them.
  18. I tell them that it's a game where people hide a container with or without swag and you try and find it with a GPS.
  19. I guess my stats speak for themselves.....I have more finds than hides so I guess I enjoy finding more. I only have three hides (one is now archived) but I am enjoying coming up with hiding spots and ideas. The maintaining of caches is what sucks because cachers aren't very "gentle" in their search techniques.
  20. I've recently become obsessed with sig items and pathtags. Because of this, I also like to leave the same items. I have two types of sig items and one generic pathtag that I currently leave and will have my personal pathtag made soon. I am also a scoutmaster so I tend to leave a lot of scout related items.....patches, pins, keyfobs etc.
  21. Hello, R.O.B.! I also live in Fort Worth. These are great examples that you have given. I like how they're so close to "civilization" yet off the beaten path.
  22. I was going to suggest any of the "hobby" stores like Michael's or Hobby Lobby. You can get a pack of 100 for less than $4.00 If I remember correctly. I keep some in my caching satchel to help those that place logbooks with no baggie in film cans and the like.
  23. Cool to look at that list. I was told about TOMBSTONE which is the oldest cache in Texas. It's a multi near the University of Texas in Arlington. I need to take the time to go over and find it after my vacation. I only live about 20 miles from it.
  24. This is GREAT news......so now I can log http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...=y&decrypt= without having to make the climb since it can be seen from the ground! AWESOME!
