  1. I have been going through customs long before these tags came along and noone ever questioned my dog tags. You would be surprised what the pass up to challenge those nail clippers.
  2. Is that really much of a trip from CA to NM? Is there a special route you had planned?
  3. Well, I don't know about other people, but I actually broke the bank and invested in the HUGE green stickers that say GEOCACHE on them. They pretty much cover one side of the box. Hard to miss.
  4. We have 3780 caches in NY state, but 466 miles from my home (Finger Lakes Region in NY) covers everything west to Michigan, south to just inside North Carolina, east to most all of Maine and way up into Quebec. That is a huge amount of territory.
  5. But, if you have time to write it all out, are you spending enough time caching?
  6. The modem tax was an April Fools Joke?!? Who am I paying every month??? I suppose you are gonna tell me that the scientifically formulated "cologne" I just ordered won't have chicks flocking to me, either!
  7. Would this be similar to orienteering, where instead of getting coordinates to the next location, you get a bearing and distance? Just a thought.
  8. My point exactly. I don't think there should be a rule requiring parking information. I just think if it is possible that a "reasonable" person could end up in a bad situation by parking in a "good" spot, then give them a little guidance. Sometimes you need to just tell them where NOT to park.
  9. My doctor rides 30 miles round trip to work every day (well, when there isn't two feet of snow on the ground). Welcome to the game and keep up the good work!
  10. Certainly (IMHO) the icons are a good idea. They are new, though, so it will be a while until they are widely updated. I think it is only considerate to inform someone if they will be paying for access, not able to access at certain hours, or restricted to parking in certain areas. It doesn't give up the cache location.
  11. After sitting in the office most of the day, it is a great way for the kids to get me off my butt. It is a wonderful family activity, as well.
  12. Are you talking physically visiting someone? Unless you have a healthy layover, I don't know if it would be worth going through security all over again.
  13. Sweet pen. It beats broken pencils.

eTrex yellow is probably your best bet for a bargain. If you want a mapping GPSr, go with the Legend. They are pretty much the gold standard for inexpensive units. That said, there are dozens of people on here and I am sure you will get dozens of opinions.
  15. Yeah, I wouldn't worry about the pups eating the log book, just piddling on it.
  16. Back on topic for a moment, .... wait .... what was the topic? Oh, yeah .... I think you will find that people like you describe are pretty much bitter and controlling in all aspects of their life. I don't really think there is much you can do to change them. You can't please everyone, so please the ones you can and bury the rest in the back yard.
  17. A FULL TANK OF GAS?!? Is this suddenly becoming "Games of the Rich and Famous"? I think a full tank of gas for caching should be pancakes, toast and coffee.

    Congrats, and Happy Birthday!
  19. This is not a problem. At most any college campus, you should be able to find a fresh new brain (in a less weathered package) that doesn't run down as easily. You can bring this new brain along to store information. It may even assist in moving your brain storage unit along some of those trails. You may find, however, that this new brain dispenses information, even when not requested and I can't promise this will be any cheaper than some of the other options in the long run.
  20. The only acceptable remedy is to fence these areas and prevent ANY human entry. Although it would be nice to "enjoy" the beauty of these parks, any human interaction is going to damage the ecosystem. I imagine we could let a few tree-huggers in to monitor the area, but they would be required to enter with NO man-made items. No tools, no shelter, no clothing. Let them really "get back to nature".
  21. First let me say, yes, this is a family function. I take my kids along all the time. That said, there are certainly caches that are not child friendly (hence, the attributes icon). There are caches that are not wheelchair friendly, or elderly friendly, or animal friendly. My point is, not all caches are for "everyone". Some require special skills or abilities. If the cache is placed where it CANNOT be accessed by children, I don't see the problem. I don't know if I can think of a place off the top of my head, however, that would be adult only and appropriate for a cache.
  22. Be careful...33 days may not be enough! It is a BIG world!
  23. Even if you don't have a mapping GPS or mapping software, for most states you can find topo maps online. Check out the maps of your area and find the best approach. Also, get an idea of the terrain for those coordinates. Not only will it help you plan better, but when you get close, the terrain can be a better indicator of the location than the GPSr. You don't need to spend lots of money or carry lots of paper maps to use this resource. Just do a little research before you leave home and pack it away in your brain.
  24. I'm sorry, but I can't resist. Your point is well taken, IVxIV, but the same could be said for your standard TV remote. How hard is it to get up and change the channel? Now, hide the remote for a day and see what happens! Back on topic, I have found OffRoute to be a good source of GPSrs at great prices. (But, the Garage Sale forum is the best place to start.)
