  1. I got a good one.. Those who find oodles of caches but don't give back by hiding <and maintaining> their own.
  2. Kudos, Sir! It is a rare occasion that I meet someone who can tolerate tedium for an extended time frame. I certainly never learned that trick. When I encounter something as mind numbing as a crappy container, in an uninspiring location such as 500 acres of sweltering, exhaust laden blacktop teaming with soccer mom driven SUVs, my only thought is to get as far away from there as possible, as quickly as possible. I hope you recognize how unique you really are, and congratulate yourself accordingly. Your steadfast resilience reminds me of a gag business card a fiend gave me long ago. On the front, it said, "Would you like to know how to keep a Scot amused for hours? (I'm Scottish) Turn card over for answer!" On the back was written the exact same thing. I could only flip it once. I would be quite jealous of someone who could sit there, perfectly content, flipping that card for days on end. Clan Riffster, FWIW, I followed your advice and looked up the definition of "condescend". Surprisingly, the definition listed the above quote as an example. I will take my kids to LPCs if we realize too late what it is while caching. We will also stop at them if we are within feet of one while doing something else. They like increasing their count and getting closer to getting another inscribed achievement geocoin. My problem with them is the container is usually craptastic. If the container was cool in some way, then I would enjoy it. Either give me a nice container, a nice location, or a nice trek.
  3. I believe they would end up crushed in either a cache or in a backpack.
  4. .. and then since 5/26/2012 leepfrog95 has visited him into every cache he has visited. .. resurrected to then go back to being held hostage.
  5. Those caches have not clearly gone missing. You should have just left a DNF log on the cache that you put NM on. The other cache was found just 2 months ago. Just put a DNF as well and move on to the next cache. Spend your desire to NM and archive caches on those that have had problems for a long time. A long time is much greater than 2 months. The first cache is an easy find D 1.5 and the container is big (about 12" tall and 6" wide). So if the OP found the cut zip tie at ground zero it could likely be that the cache was taken. In this case the cache is likely gone and an NM is fine. What's the point of the DNF? The NM gets the owners attention quicker. As a CO I'd want to know asap that someone thinks the cache is gone. An NM gets my attention quicker. I'm sorry .. I read the owner maintenance log from 2011 that said: I still don't see how a zip tie on a tree means a micro is automatically missing now.
  6. Needs Maintenance icons don't "turn into an Archived cache". NM logs are not forwarded to reviewers. They were introduced as a means to promote cache maintenance that does NOT involve reviewers. Just wanted to clarify that. So, you say that reviewers never run reports on caches with the NM flag set? I've read such actions do happen, on this forum. This is all besides the point of this topic though.

  8. I have had an Igloo Beverage Jug hidden for five years without a leak. The perfect sort of thing to go down a hole of the proper size. They only cost about $5 at Wal-Mart. http://www.walmart.c...Gallon/14550423
  9. I'm with Team Microdot. If you have a missing cache from a long gone hider, then a NM is surely needed. Even if the cache is there, a year with a string of DNFs without the CO stepping it to say, "I checked, it is still there", indicates that a NM is needed. Some don't like a NM that turns into an Archived cache so they won't leave them. This catches some of the community supported caches. To me, if a CO isn't around to clear a NM then any cache with one does deserve to go to Archive after the term of expiry is up. Now, that term of expiry, seems to vary greatly.
  10. There should only be one copy of a travel bug number in circulation at a time. While users "get away" with using TB stamps, they can and do get shut down when brought to Groundspeak's attention.
  11. FizzyCalc! "Distance" tab. Place the first location in "Point 1" and the goal location in "Point 2". You will be given the Distance and the Forward Azimuth (Bearing).
  12. Arthur & Trillian Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Any Matryoshka except the recent 4 piece set on geocaching.com
  13. This ^^^ I have found several of these in my hometown so I suspect it is a prevalent practice.
  14. To me, it is nothing more than a proliferation of the lazy. Find twenty caches in a day and you don't want to bother typing something interesting for each of them. People can type text message all day on their phones but can't be bothered to leave more than 4 characters for a cache. Do that and you are just a USER, you are not giving back to those who bother to hide caches. Fine, I get leaving TFTC for a lamppost cache. Still, if you think those are so lame that they don't deserve anything more, why did you take the time to find it? I have scoured the logs of some of the TFTC proponents here, and I find they gladly leave TFTH on most caches, including those where a sea of full logs surround their small island. Oh, I am writing this because I received a "SL" log to today (signed log) for a cache that requires the finder to walk at least half a mile on a trail, the cache is currently stuffed full, and that is the only traditional cache that is going to be found on that trail. Just puts one off about hiding after receiving such logs. I do wish finders would realize that the thing that entices many hiders to hide caches, is the log.
  15. It is highly doubtful that the owner will want the container. Cache owners generally don't hide pill bottles if they are of the mindset that the container is important. If you post the latest names and dates, then the cache can be found online, and if still active, can be archived.
  16. .. or I am buying different size bags to encase the swag that I leave in caches. It doesn't have to be about logs.
  17. I buy all of my bags from this seller and I see they have 1.5 x 2 http://www.ebay.com/itm/200-New-Resealable-Clear-1-5-x-2-Zip-Lock-Bags-2-Mil-Ziplock-/110914112066
  18. To not receive these logs: Regardless of what you put out, someone will still do it.
  19. Who has 40 altoids tins laying around? Sounds like a sever case of halitosis and the should consult a physician. eBay does. Search for "empty altoids" and you will often find massive lots.
  20. That jeep looks likes one of the Travel Bugs released as a promotional by Jeep. There are A LOT of missing jeeps out there now. I would say it is the most coveted traveler by cache bandits. Example: http://m3.i.pbase.com/o2/32/38432/1/103563553.4OieAxUM.GreenJeepTravelBug2.JPG
  21. You can ask but not response means you put in a cache and let it go its way.
  22. Why would you take the wet cache home with you when you don't have the ability to disable the cache in the interim?
  23. Perhaps, an upset VAT customer has unleashed a DDOS upon Groundspeak.
  24. I agree, it is the last chance but only until the next set of tags is listed.
