  1. I really think that question 1 is way too many questions in one question... and you asked about micros twice... but you made the cointest, and I don't get to whine. I also agree that you should take water... seems to be an important thing to do. Perhaps I should start a water awareness coin! 1) you'll find 14 caches, DNF 3 caches, 4 micros, 9 smalls, 4 micros. practice looking in the places that you don't expect someone to be!
  2. And I'm really sorry to hear about your water issues... hope they get fixed soon, and that sick feeling in the pit of your stomach goes away! (Use lights at night)
  3. You will spend 3 hours and 15 minutes caching. Wear a helmet!
  4. You called Groundspeak? Seriously, what sort of help did you expect to receive? I'm also not clear what your primary concern is... is the cacher causing any harm by dipping his bugs in your cache?
  5. At our fair last year, the local 4-H group had done an exhibit on geocaching, as well as having some GPSrs to check out in order to find a couple of caches that had been hidden on the fairground by the 4-Hers.
  6. Woot! I almost didn't play in this cointest... figured I didn't know anything about Philadelphia, or the Flyers. But then I thought I'd fiddle around with the suburb part, and looked up Philadelphia on Google Maps. I saw King of Prussia, and remembered that humongous mall (which I've been in), and figured that must be what you were shooting for. I made the strategic decision to answer the mall part of the question first, in hopes that wouldn't give away the suburb answer.... Guess it paid off. Thanks for the cointest and your generosity... I've sent an email along.
  7. 8. King of Prussia Use lights at night!
  8. This is loosely related... but I thought the OP might enjoy the story. About a year ago, Write Shop Robert was running a cointest which was based on a game where you determined the location (coordinates) based on clues in a picture. He would post a picture, and the participants would have to use google maps/earth, and the clues in the picture to determine where the picture was taken from. About the same time, on another forum, someone was trying to locate a friend/relative who had gone missing in an urban environment. I don't remember the exact circumstances, but they were in some sort of danger. The only clue to their location was a picture that they had taken using their cell phone-- because I had been honing my skills on WSR's game, I was able to work with another forum participant to determine their location.
  9. ^^^ there shouldn't be an apostrophe in "its." I'm resisting the urge to edit my post. Wear a helmet!
  10. 9. it's very large shopping mall. (Not going to give the name of the mall, for obvious reasons). Ride safely.
  11. My only caching device is the Nuvi 255w. Huge capacity (I have 2800 POIs on it right now), the entire cache sheet, recent logs, proximity alerts, automatic clue decoding, and the ability to navigate both on and off road. It lacks a good compass screen, but if you have a widescreen version, you can read the coordinates on the satellite screen. And, if I zoom all the way in on the track-up screen, I have a pretty good sense of when I'm nearing GZ. It doesn't have the best accuracy under tree cover, but I'm learning to work around that with some extra care and good sense. Basically, I try to develop a good idea of the cache location before leaving the trail... and look a little harder for geotrails then I might if I had a high-sensitivity receiver.
  12. Look twice for bikes... 10: you had a job in the military.
  13. There are "phone-a-friend" lists? No kidding...
  14. 'All' is a singular pronoun. It properly takes the verb 'is'. The sign uses correct English. Why would anyone paint the word '(sic)' on it? If it had said "All other forms of entertainent are also prohibited", then it would be incorrect, and the use of (sic) would be appropriate. Not entirely accurate. "All" is either singular or plural, depending on what it references. Consider the following: All of the people at the park are having fun. "Are" is used, because "people" is plural. OR All of the house is on fire. "Is" is used, because "house" is singular. Had the sign said "All other entertainment is prohibited," it would have been correct. But it said, "All other forms of entertainment is prohibited." And so I would disagree with your assessment. It seems that the verb would need to link with the word "forms," and so "are" would be the correct choice.
  15. Surely you must be joking? Respect for me, goes not to the cemetaries, but to the people in them visiting their dead relatives. Yes, you're crying about your dead husband, but I really have to grab this cache for a first to find RIGHT NOW. So move aside. But a parent, who was teaching a child about respect wouldn't do what you just suggested. They would say something like, "well, we're going to put our agendas and plans aside today, because that lady's needs are more important than ours." That's actually a pretty good teaching moment in my book. (However, if the parent did what you suggested, then they're teaching a completely different lesson altogether!) But again... if you don't like cemetery caches, then don't hide or hunt them.... or take your children hunting or hiding them.
  16. Can I post an iframe in a post? Probably not, but I'll try anyway... <iframe width='500' height='300' frameborder='0' src='http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=t981oro9lqC1bSDRt4RnEtQ&output=html&widget=true'></iframe> [edit: nope... didn't think so]
  17. As long as I don't have to count a pathtag as part of my collection, it's not all that heartbreaking... All I have in my "collection" is a trackable Red Herring (a gift from JackalGirl in the 9-9-9 cointest), and an untrackable Yaahl's [Copper] Antique Gold Feather Geocoin from CrowsFeat30's "Are You Clever Enough" Cointest. I'll keep them both, thank you very much! Guess the joys of a small collection is that I wouldn't have to give so much up!
  18. When you write the note, look at the bottom of the page, and you should see a box that lists the trackables in your inventory. Click on the TB, and then it should drop in the cache when you write your note.
  19. My wife and I were hunting a cache in Florida, and another couple walked up toward the cache site and loudly said the word "muggles" as they approached. That was a significant enough clue that we didn't actually have to worry about them... and my laughter was a significant enough clue that they didn't have to worry about us!
  20. In my picture of this event, the car never gets turned off... Congrats on a great achievement... I wonder, did you dream about caching when you finally got to sleep?
  21. Or what BD said. I Forgot about giving the last person time to log it... really should leave the advice-giving to the experts.
  22. It looks like the last person forgot to log it when they dropped it off in CA. Presuming you have the TB in your hands, here's what you want to do: 1) Delete your "discovered" log. 2) "Grab" the TB. 3) "Write a Note" for the cache you found it in, and upon writing that note, "drop" the TB. 4) "Retrieve" the TB from the cache you found it in. 5) Delete your "Note" from the cache page (optional)
