  1. So, I have a Garmin Nuvi 760 and a Colorado. I use the Nuvi to drive as close to a cache as I can get and then use the Colorado to hike the rest of the way. Recently I created a route Pocket Query going from Indy to St. Louis. The next week we took a trip from Indy to Ft. Wayne and I created another Pocket Query. When I put both the GPX files in the garmin\GPX\ folder on my Nuvi nothing showed up from the Indy to Ft. Wayne query. Any idea why? Is there a limit to the number of GPX files the unit can read? A limit on the number of geocache waypoints? Is there a good writeup on tricks using these units. For example, I know you can not have spaces in your filenames or the units will not see them. Thanks in advance for any help! -Rich
  2. Hey all! I took my buddy Geocaching and he is totally hooked and wants his own GPSr. He has decided on the eTrex Legend but funds are tight right now. So, he wants to offer his 2nd computer as trade plus I am adding MY old digital camera to make this a great deal! Here are the details: System: Gateway 2000 P166, 40MB RAM, 2GB Hard Drive, CD, CDRW(2X), ATI Rage II+ Video Card, modem, 10/100 NIC and 2 USB Ports. Running Windows 98se. You also get the NEC MultiSync A500 15" monitor. I tested everything and it works great. I even installed Microsoft Office. Digital Camera: Casio QV-100 with carrying case. Takes 640x480 pics and connects via a serial cable. I will send the software disks and have it installed on the system. Also, if there is any software you want installed on it let me know. I may have it. If you want me to put any of the GPS or PDA software (free stuff) on it beforehand I can do that too. We are in Indianapolis so if you are in our area the trade would be easy. If not, we ask that you pay for shipping on the Legend and we will take care of shipping on the system. If you have any questions, just shoot me an email. Thanks all! 3. I got one! Got it through eBay. It is the PEG-N710C. Palm OS, color, MemoryStick slot and it's an MP3 player! They even included a 128MB memory stick with it. All for $104.50! It was a rockin deal! The only bad part was that I got the wrong cradle. No biggie, they are going for about $10. 4. Looking into the parks is a good idea. You can also look for Benchmarks. Read up on them on the site. Doing a combination of Caches and Benchmarks will probably provide more things to hunt for. Good luck and have fun! Thanks, Rich "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr Seuss
  5. That's a good plan. I have not had any response from anyone here so I guess everyone is cool. Thanks! Rich "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr Seuss

  7. That is awesome (awesome is my daughter's newest word!)!!! That is amazing that she can sign on to the web. She is going to be a hacker! My daughter is 16 months. She is super sweet and totally evil. Glad to hear you don't need the formula but if you know someone who does need it be sure to have them contact me! Thanks, Rich "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr Seuss
  8. If you have the need for a memroy stick (PDA, Digital Camera, MP3 Player), click the link below. This is the best deal I have found to date on this stuff. Thanks, Rich http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000691IO/ref%3Dnosim/bensbargaicenter/002-9045626-1445601 "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr Seuss
  9. I am looking for a copy of MetroGuide 4 or newer. I have CD's, movies, hockey trading cards, misc computer stuff --- basically a bunch of random stuff to offer as trade. If there is anything your looking for, let me know. I know this is kind of a lame post but you never know who may have want and need something random?!?!? Thanks all, Rich "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr Seuss
  10. I know that this is a strange post but I have seen quite a few messages where people are talking about having to give up their "toys" so they can provide for their kids. Having to do that is no fun but maybe I can help. I have 8 cans of baby formula and some other misc baby food items that are still good. My daughter never used any of them. I will try to get some more information on exactly what I have. But, if you need some of this, let me know. We also still get coupons for this stuff that I can forward to you also. Anyway, let me know if you need any of this. Thanks all, Rich "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr Seuss
  11. quote:I feel your pain. I just went to Sam's Club last night and spent $90 on 3 cans OVGR ZR, if your interested, I am looking for a copy of MetroGuide USA v5. I have 8 cans of formula and some other misc baby food products that my daughter never used that are still good. This is a random request but let me know. 12. Hey all, I am looking for a Sony Clie PDA. The two things I am looking for in the unit is it must have a color screen and the ability to play MP3's. Not really sure what to offer as a trade. Here are some of the things that I was considering eBaying: 1) A nice Sony MP3 car stereo with remote that I am not using since I got my van. Model CDX-MP30 2) A Kodak Advantix Preview camera with 3-5 rolls of unused film (color & b&w). 3) For the hockey fans, I have a ton of hockey trading cards. Let me know who you like and I can let you know what I got. I have a ton of card and special inserts! 4) And there is of course money. Right now I don't have much of it but let me know. Thanks all! 13. Hey all, I would love to have a 100oz CamelBack but I just did not have the cash for that kind of purchase. While looking at the local Meijer store, I found a High Sierra pack. It hold 2 liters of water and has a small pack that I use to hold a knife, small flashlight, a digital camera, my eTrex Legend and a notepad and pencil. This pack is also separate from the water area so if there is a leak it is safe. The coolest part of all this is the pack was only $19.99! I used it 3 days straight hiking and going through caves with no problems. Now if Shuey can hook it up with a 100oz CamelBack for that price, I'll take 5! Now, his deal is rockin, but if your on a budget look into the High Sierra. Thanks all, Rich "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr Seuss
  14. When using Pocket Query Generator, is there a way to include Benchmarks in the search results? Thanks, Rich "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr Seuss
  15. I just signed up for the premium membership and set up one of my custom searches. Well, I got the results. There was a .gpx file and I used EasyGPS to open it. There was also a .prc file that I am assuming is the eBook file. Now, what do I use to open that? Thanks all, Rich "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr Seuss
  16. I should note that my posts were not rude, the replies were! LOL "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr Seuss
  17. I agree 100%! I just purchased my membership to the site tonight. I have made a handful of posts and a few of them were a bit rude. Thankfully, there were mostly genuine people that helped and encouraged. "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr Seuss
  18. To Mopar, thanks you really know how to make a person feel welcome. To Quetzalteco, thanks you really know how to make a person feel welcome. Isn't it amazing how the exact same phrase can make one message look incredibly rude and another polite and friendly. If anything, maybe I can bring some manners to the site! PS - I didn't pay the $3, I paid the $30. Rich
  19. OK, this is going to be a really wierd post but I am not currently a paying member and I agree with R.K.! Here are my reasons: 1) I would be super pissed if someone ganked a cache that I took the time to create and they only found it because they found it here. 2) Membership should have benefits. Now, beejay&esskay has a good point about getting people involved. How about this for an idea..... Only paying members can see all the caches. Users who sign up can only see "newbie caches". Name them what you want but they would be kind of like a microcache. Something small with only 1-2 items to trade. Something that would be fun would be to make one of the trade items in some "newbie caches" the waypoint and long/lat of an actual good cache. This would give them experience, a taste of the "good stuff" and a ton of work trying to find real caches to plunder if that is what they are in it for. Just my opinion. Rich PS - I am going to buy my membership tonight. I'm tired of writing "I'm not a paying member"!
  20. Thack Pack - I did just find the calendar notes option today. I have been so impressed with my Legend (have nothing to compare it to) that I hoped to hear that this would be something you could upgrade. When I looked at the hunting/fishing info I saw that you could change the date and get updated info. I figured that a weather report option would have been thought of. Thanks for all the info everyone!
  21. I think that I have a great idea that would help everyone with their caching. Now, I am a newbie so if this has been created sorry to bother everyone and please let me know where to find it. Enough of that, here is my idea. The coolest thing I have found so far on this site is the ability to get a huge listing of the caches in an area and use the check boxes to quick download a file that you can easily upload to your GPS unit. The most frusterating thing I have found is that I have to create my own set of notes to take with me hunting. Now, I have done some research and I think I have a plan to be able to generate automated notes. First, create a list of all the html id tags on a cache page. Some good examples are id=CacheName, id=LatLon, id=UTMFormat, id=WaypointName, id=ShortDescription, id=LongDescription and id=Hints. These would be the most important for me but others may want more or less. Once you have the list, create a section in a users profile of what info they want in their notes. These could all be check boxes for each item and a radio button option to decode or not decode the hint. Then, once you have checked the caches you want to download the .LOC file for, there would be an additional link to download the .txt file for. The link would take your selected query of caches, extract your prefered id items and compile them into once text file with all the notes. This would be cool since a text file is the most basic of files, anyone could create an app to send it to a PDA, an eBook reader or just print it off. I would envision the file to be formated in a very straight forward way. It would just be ID NAME: INFO, then next line ID NAME: INFO and so on. Now, I think that the Geocaching.com has already gone above and beyond for the general public with what they provide at this site. That being said, I belive that this would be a great selling point for becoming a member. I am not currently a member. When money permits, I will become a member. If this option is available now, I will rob the piggy bank! So, everyone please let me know what you think about this idea. I have just started geocaching and it is really fun. I want to be able to do my part to make this site and geocaching become an experience everyone can enjoy. Thanks, Rich PS - If someone from Geocaching.com reads this and wants to persue the idea, I am willing to assist in the development if I can be of help.
  22. I was actually looking for something like this on the site. I wanted to get in touch with some of the experienced cachers to get info on how to get started. There are plenty of good resources on the site for that but nothing beats talking with someone with a proven track record! I'm all for it. As far as being a members only thing, that's cool. Just allow people who are not members to count their caches once they become members. Rock on all! Rich
  23. Thanks a ton Thack Pack! How exactly would that help me with what the weather would be like two days from now? That is what I was looking for.
  24. I was hoping a very GPS savvy user could help me with a question. I have an eTrex Legend and while going through the options, I found many interesting things. I could see when/where the sun and moon were and check the best times to fish and hunt. My question/s is/are this, can options be added to the already available ones? Like, could I add something that gives me weather information or something that I can upload/read text files? As always, thanks in advance! Rich
  25. I just got my first GPS unit (Garmin Legend), downloaded some caches at the location that we are camping this weekend but I have a problem. Is there a way to get the extra info that is given in the description to my unit and see it? If not, I don't mind printing something off but is there an easier way to get it other than going to each page and printing it? Thanks for your help in advance! Rich
