  1. Hello, I am new to the sport (hobby....obsession?) and am amazed at the number of variables involved in getting outfitted. I am trying to determine what features are most important to getting started. I will be playing close to home (mostly), with occasional trips to various locations in the US during the summer. I know that brand loyalty is rampant among you, so I am not asking for that data. What I would like to know is what FEATURES are most important for a novice? I see lots of cables and downloadable stuff, but do I really need that to play here in good old, flat Florida? What do I need to get started and how can I do it without needing to mortgage a kidney? Any input will be GREATLY appreciated! Hoping to cache up with you all, SteveCz
  2. I am amazed at how many variables there are when shopping for GPS units! I am brand new to the sport (hobby...obsession?) and am trying to figure out what the minimum requirements are. I'm hoping to make this a fairly frequent diversion. I would like to play and use my unit on summer trips throughout the country, though not for heavy cross-county navigation. In skimming the various websites I see cables, downloads and all sorts of goodies. What does would it take for me to simply enjoy geocaching in good old (flat) Florida? I know that manufacturers are a hot topic, so I'm not asking for that...what features would allow me to get started without having to mortgage one of my kidneys? Any input will be GREATLY appreciated! Hoping to cache up with you all, SteveCz
