  1. whenever i go west into the mountains and i going to be in the woods then a carry my S & W 357 mag. not just for bears and mountain lions but also for the human factor as well. there have been a few cases of hikers and campers attacked by lunatics wandering around in the hills. i hunt so i also, year round, have a small game license that allows me to carry it legally to and from my house thru other cities which don't allow hand guns. the city and the county in which i life also allows me the carry my handgun in my vehicle, loaded and in plain sight. since the county i live in is in a large portion of the mountains i'm not only protecting myself but i'm also doing it legally and if i leave my county well the next allows it also( heading farther west ). most mountain towns here do. i'm not a john wayne or wyatt earpe type of person but i've encountered both black bears and mountain lions. luckily we both were high tailling it in opposite directions. i have been in these hills for 35 yrs. and know when things become quiet something eerie may happen and i am going to be prepared. lately because of the drought problem in the mountains most of the communities along the foothills has seen a large amounts of both black bears and mountain lions in peoples back yards. so when you see them this low then your more likely to see them in the areas you spend time in. unfortunately for both species they are killed more then they are relocated. that makes me sad for them. too many people are moving into their habitat and are forcing they wild life out. i heard this comment on the news lately from someone who had a bear killed in his back yard. " well ,we moved here into the mountains to enjoy the wild life but we don't want them around here where we life, we need to get rid of them" what an idiot. most people that have lived in these mountains and have cabins here know part of it's beauy is to see the bears, mountian lions, elk, and moosewhich. are ALWAYS roaming thru their yards. and everyone is prepared for an unfreindly encounter, which rarely happens. edited for missed spelling
  2. AWESOME, i'd like to order two if i can please...lol...
  3. but seriously why would you hid a micro in a field of 2' grass that's been blown over covering the ground?
  4. done and i'm currently with the 26.43% of the others who have voted
  5. okay so what about my etrex legend. it has waas, instant download of street maps, picks up signals rather fast considering i live in the colorado foot hills. though it's in black and white the image is crystal clear. but the kicker is i bought it off of craigslist for only $20 and it is in near perfact condition, not a scratch on it anywhere. the display glass is perfect and still has that plastic cover over it. please fill me in.
  6. luckily there wasn't a naked cobblestone that you would have to of turned over to look for the micro sorry, i just couldn't resist commenting.
  7. its just some watse of life playing a new game" lets mess w/ geocachers and their heads".it's obviously a joke or you would have heard more from the cops if it was real.is this the only incident or has anyone heard of it happening else where? all this complaining is really just fanning his flame while fueling the fires of his game
  8. as a jeep owner also, i was thrilled when i saw how many jeep tb's out there. i am wondering the same thing to i'm still looking for my first jeep tb in a cache.
  9. still being some what new with a few months and 35 finds to my credit, it still frustrates me to all heck. i can't believe some of these caches and the micro-nano's- are the worse. but again i'm new to this and have to get into the groove i guess. 15 minutes is what i use as a starting point for the first time. depnding on the cache location and muggles around. if i haven't found it by then i sum up the situation and use it for the second try. 15 minutes is what i limit myself on the second attempt. if i haven't found it, then i just left it be. at a time when i think i might find it in that 15 minute time frame it get's a dnf. starting out i think i logged 3-4 dnf in a row. i didn't realise how these cache could look like, wow, some are just crazy. but still being new, i need to get into the the craziness mind set. before i looked for the cache i got every piece of info. from the hints and spoiler. altough reading some of those spoilers drive me insane, i give it my best attempt. 15 minutes is my 2 cents. if this was in reply to a specific reply, sorry it was supposed to be for the community. sorry. others wish never mind.
  10. i'm already back and did find a ride while i was there-thanks team geoblast
  11. 3331.9mi denver to waikik. long way to fly. my arms are killing me
  12. this past week while vacationing in ohau i had that pleasure twice. the first night there my wife and i went for a walk down the beach. located from our condo were a few caches and i had found one and went to look for another on a pier in the marina. we were there only ten minutes and left. the light was too bad to see. the next morning around 7:00 am i went back to look for the cache. after a few minutes one of the guys who lives on his boat right were i was looking came over asked me what i was doing and i told him i was looking for something my grandson threw out the window. then he went on to tell me that there is always people wondering around here. then another lady asked if she could help. i said no i would come back later and look again. the next morning i went again and looked around the same time.after a few minutes i sat down to answer my cell and have a smoke, not even ten minutes later a hononolulu cop comes creeping by so i waited then left. but when i got to the road at the end of the pier he was there waiting and stopped me asking what i was doing there. i told him i liked boats and walked down to see what was there. he said they got a call about a suspicios person, i looked like description given. i just told him i had wlaked down one side and was walking up there other and sat down when he drove by. he still ran my licsense there was also another cache at the end of the same pier that i hadn't got to yet so i did a cache and dash from the car and was able to score both with no hassle! the second time was when the maintainer of a cache and i were leaving the the area of another cache and were stop by a DSP ? officer that was going ballistic. going to have us arrested for trespassing on private, then state and federal land. arrested for this and that and everything else too. the other cacher told this guy that he, as well as others, have be hiking up this same trail for years and never have ,gotten stop by anyone. but the the guy said he and the feds knew of some sort of shrine hidden up there and that they knew it was on a web site and that they were in the process of shutting it down. and going to make an example of us for everyone else who goes up there. i can honestly say i was alittle freaking and so was the other guy. he finally ended up letting us go. the maintainer of the cache knew anything about all this either. the cache has since been shutdown to get things straightened out so there is no more problems for future cachers. this is a beautiful cache started a service man stationed currently back east. i know it has been visited by other cachers previously because i saw the log signed as i was signing it some dated back over a year. this cache is a memorial to the 27 service men from hawai'i who have died in the line of fire in either desert storm or currently in iraq or ahganastan. everyone who put their time in to this cache should be highly commended. the area had been cito'd a number of times as well as cleaned out and painted. framed photos of those servicemen are on the walls . this is one truly unforgetable cache and memorial. this was my best cache ever in alot of ways. it is awesome and i hope others will get to see it soon also. the area where we parked was a public street. there were no signs of any sort saying no parking. there were no signs posted on an obviously daily used path. actually not a sign anywere. a point we continuely told that officer. there is a park nearby and the area is used by joggers daily. the land i was told is considered blm type area so no one has any notion it was on federal(?) or any other trespassable property. i think that everywhere, public property may be private while private property is public. caching certainly can be a rush.
  13. [color=#33CC00i can see both sides of the (geo)coin. since i am new to this game i do want to build my stats. i, too, want to show that i'm improving my abilities to cache. that i'm getting good enough to eventually be able to sit on the porch with the dogs. a ftf, tb or even a geocoin would go a long way to building up my self esteem towards become a better cacher. on the flip side, after spending a day out with someone who is in it for the love of the game it takes on a whole new meaning. when your in it for the love of the game there is no stress factor. i loving the game too but after 20-30 minutes of searching i'm freaking, they're smiling. i'm trying to find one and get it up on the boards(stats) and move on to the next. when you in it for the love of the game your not pushed for time. i'm trying to find one and am thinking about the next one. the cacher in it for the love is enjoying the hunt more after spending that day with someone who doesn't log their caches because they love the game and the hunt, i completely understood the concept. when i feel comfortable enough, and i'll know when, my mind will have cleared enough that i be able to see the cache instead of just looking for it. when your in it for the love of the game you seem to have more fun and loving it instead of just racking up numbers. someday i, too, hope to elevate myself to loving it instead of playing it
  14. you would win hands down with that one. i'm amazed that there is a head light still intact!
  15. yeah i thought it was the one you guys had posted the last adventures. thanks tho i'll see if i can get them posted here of today's trek. i'm not too pc literate but i'll see if i can get them on with the link you gave me earlier unfortunately for me my brain doesn't speak pc

  19. dang throw me a bone someone , wondering around waikiki talking to myself won't be much fun.
  20. my two cents: WHAT A BUNCH OF CRAP! so what , there's the privileged cacher and the rest of us are the bottom of the barrel scum. i'm not allowed to have a FTF because someone is more special then me. what if that is the only available cache in my area, i have to wait for GOD to find it first. since i joined two months ago, this is the third thread in this forum i consider a negitive image to a fun, interesting sport. as a newbie it tells me i'm not worthy to be here because i may never get to enjoy that thrill of have a FTF. WHAT A BUNCH OF CRAP! now, that being said, maybe, just maybe, if they won it in a raffle then that would be acceptable. they paid to have that right. who's gonna reserve a FTF for me and help me get more finds? huh? no one thats who. i want to earn my finds and that includes FTF. i sitting here wondering just how many people are out there helping each other with they're FTF, or regular finds? sorry if i seem annoyed, but that's putting it mildly.
  21. No color bias here so show us your rig. You can find instructions for posting a photo to the forums here. RM it's not a rubicon either just a plain old jeep i like to beat on. just cuz it shiny and black everyone thinks it's never been off the street but for 5 yrs it's been everywhere. i spend alot of time buffing out scratches. there's a cool video of playing in the lake with it.... www.myspace.com/jmythngl

  24. i'll be in hawaii for my daughters wedding on the 15th thru the 22nd. since i have nothing to i'll be trying to hit some caches. have to, they'll probably be me fatherest finds. i am wondering if any hawaiian cachers would like to meet up with a coloradoan cacher for a day of geo fun. it would be great to link up with someone in another state and have them show me some unforgettable caching. hope this was the place to post this, if not, your guidance would be greatly appreciated. thans all, jmy
