  1. Another reason might be that there are a lot of people who put out regular caches are getting tired of people are filling their caches with junk instead of decent trade items. I got torqued one time when someone took a really nice item that I paid about $8 for and left a Tylenol. I retrieved the Tylenol and placed back in that person's first cache he put out!
  2. Bow season begins October 2 thru 31 in a lot of places in Texas. It might be a good time this weekend to hit the woods before it starts. After the bow season, the regular hunting season begins. After this weekend, I'm gonna be picky about when and where I go.
  3. What would you do if you climbed up in the middle of some bushes, trying to find a cache, and someone walked by, noticing you? Would you stay hid in the bushes or give the person some bogus explanation?
  4. If 100 people had a GPS on the plane, no one would have to ask where the bathroom is.
  5. We started geocaching last September with an Eagle Expedition that we bought around 1996. We found our first 70-75 or so with it. A friend goes caching with us after he bought a new Garmin 72. The Eagle Expedition worked fine but seemed to be not as accurate at the "newer" technology that he had. We purchased two new Magellan's for Christmas and really like those. However, if one of the Magellan's go down.....I wouldn't hesitate to fire up the Expedition.
  6. For me, it was the GPS first. We used it with notebook computer as a navigation tool (still use it that way).
  7. My bunch uses 2 Magellan Sportstrac Maps and one Eagle Expedition.
  8. I like it too! Just put it on some caches I put out yesterday.
  9. ...got my Sportstrac Map for Christmas 2003. I haven't developed any cracks as of yet. I carry it and at least crank it up everyday. I have kept it inside the padded holster that came with it when I bought it. I will keep my fingers crossed.
  10. ...just checked back here after posting here earlier in the day and noticed I got a warn 0% with a few blocks beside it. Did I do something wrong in my earlier post about my new GPSr? Was I not supposed to mention where it was purchased? I really didn't think I did anything wrong when I posted. If that was it.....sorry.
  11. ....been around here since September. We've been using and old Eagle Expedition. We got our son a Magellan Sportstrac Map at Sams for Christmas. We looked around Houston for a good deal and couldn't find a better deal than right here in town. We got back home and I went and got one for myself. The newer "Waas enabled" GPSr's seem to be more accurate. However, we found quite a few with our old 1996 dinosaur. We'll keep it around for an extra.
  12. One of my first "finds" was a benchmark disk at the base of the city water tower which has an eight foot fence around it. The city had just repainted the tower, structure, and all. You couldn't see the disk without going inside the fence. This water tower is next to the police station and the only way in is through the police. My son and I simply went in (with our trusty GPS and datasheet)and told him what we were doing, that we weren't terrorists, and that we would only be a few minutes. The police chief said to go ahead. We located the disk took a few pictues and went back in to the police station and asked if he would like to see what we were doing. He agreed. When he saw it, he said, "What the h$ll is that thing for?" We explained and the only thing he mumbled was something about people foolishly spending the government's money back then. However, he accepted it and we had no problems.
  13. For the small, round, black cannisters that you mentioned you may look at: www.omahas.com In fact they call it a fuse can: http://www.omahas.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=6&products_id=573
  14. I have an old Eagle Expedition that I bought back in 1996-97....no WAAS functionality. I found a benchmark yesterday and checked the GPS and it was measuring 83 feet off.
  15. If you want something just to resize a photo and are on a tight budget, download Irfanview from the internet. It is pretty neat. It will do what you want it to do and a lot more. You can make slideshows with it and everything. One of the best pieces of free software around and btw there are no pop windows asking you to upgrade, buy, or anything.
  16. Thanks for the responses. This disk is in plain view in front of this cemetery. A co-worker gave me a heads up on this and I went to investigate. The cemetery association has kept this area groomed very nicely and this concrete monument it is on "very visible" from the road. Also, as you can see, the disk is still in very good shape.
  17. Coordinates are: N31 15.242 W95 01.687. It is just outside the northwest corner of the Johnson Cemetery which is northwest of Apple Springs, TX.
  18. ....found this one near a cemetery outside Apple Springs Texas. It shows to be from the US Geologic Survey. Anyone know if this is loggable? Apple Springs
  19. I'm a new member here, a newbie (12 finds), I believe that if you start charging, you will lose a lot of potential geocachers. I have been drumming a lot of interest here in my area and there are going to be a lot of new members. It will be a shame if they find out at this point that it will require some type of payment. I also know that running this site is not cheap.
