  1. when you think there is no where else to look,,, look back where you started looking,, you were probably correct,,, just not "there". Im fairly new to this as well, but have a keen sense,, and have no DNF's. If you aren't sure about your target, find more resources, and/or, ask the person who placed it for a hint. Two of the caches I FINALLY found after multiple visits, were due to others like myself and you, that are new, and learning some of the SNEAKY AND UNDERHANDED tricks that some of these owners are used to. Anyway, don't give up. It's actually a "kick in your own butt" when you find something that you have looked straight at a couple of times. Stephan
  2. If a cache is located away from the street no matter which Auto unit you get you will run into this problem. Since the cache doesn't have a street address the GPS just gets you to the closest street address it can find next to those coordinates. So it may send you down a dead end because the end of that street is 40 ft. from the cache coordinates, even though one street over there may be better access but it's 100 ft from the parking lot to the cache. When a gps does this I just ZOOM out and look for the best access point. I've used a 60cs with CN v7 a 60csx with CNv8 a streetpilot with CNv8 and a Magellan 2200t and they all would put me a street away sometimes. I don't know if one unit handles these kinds of problems better than another, but I doubt it. ditto
  3. Im in the same boat as you, I use my Verizon cell phone gps, and also have a Megellan RoadMate that is no longer in production, therefore, all of the software updates/upgrades are not compatible with my unit. Although I can carry both of my units with me, they focus on cross streets and major points of interest rather than actual long./lat. coords. I spent quite a bit on both of these units, and they work fairly well for what I purchased them for, but, I' no where near where I need to be when I'm looking for a micro cache in a 4 acre field. Anyway, if you have any great results to share with me, or any suggestions on maybe a handheld hiking GPS, I would love the imput. Steve
