  1. A question to geo-kitten. Do you have any exposure to Letterboxing in the UK? I think the idea of adding a memento like a rubber stamped imprint to one's "Cache memories book" will add to the experience. Unfortunately is does not attract any following here in RSA.

    I've only done the one in Regency park but it was a great experiance GCR57T the cache itself is massive and has been put out by the head gardener as far as I know. So its a really cheaky hide you kinda wonder the whole time why its not been muggled :D I've even gone back just to re-visit it and swap a tb/coin or two :D

  2. I went to do my FIRST cache alone and it was fairly easy parked close by went into a bunch of trees found the cache and then realised :D no pen in the cache and O NO I didnt bring one! so I go back to my car and sit there thinking what now :D then start ripping my bag apart looking for a pen and searching my car up and down eventually and I dont know why I open my boot and for some reason lift the carpeting bit and there was a PEN!! a really broken cracked pen I managed to take the pen/ink bit out and sign the lo!

    Now I always remember to keep a pen in my car bag and on me when caching :D

    ello I dont know If im being a bit cheeky but I have a tb on its way to czech and was wandering if you would help translate its mission for me?

    I can help you - please send me the text to be translated by email via my geocaching.com profile.

  4. Whereabouts in the UK are snakes found? I've never come across any snakes in Britain, adders or otherwise.

    My son managed to get himself covered in ants while we were out caching on Saturday. Didn't do him any damage, but it upset him a lot...I'm not quite sure how it happened, but hey.

    did he by any chance sit on an ant nest? :P

  5. In the begining I hated micros now I undertand they have a place in caching. Some areas you cant place a large cache and other times its just part of a multi or mystery giving you a clue. OTHER times is just blinking hard to find it :laughing: and thats great fun (if you find it in the end of course :laughing: )

    I do think big caches are great though! there is a HUGE cache in regency park (london) and I was amazed at where this huge thing is hidden and that its not been muggled yet! I know sometimes there alot of rubbish in caches but other times you find real little treasures :P

    I like a healthy mix :laughing: plus the kids like to find the big ones even when its junk inside its still treasure to them. I guess its just a personal thing really.

  6. I am really short and while I love a well hidden micro with great clues or in order to get clues - I really dislike it when people lob a micro at the top of a lamp post or high fence and dont tell the person its up high.

    Also :laughing: as I said on another thread the quality of 'large caches' leads alot to be desired sometimes (not all the time) If its going to leak its rubbish! and putting it in a bag isnt really a good idea that just gets all moist moldy and yuk :laughing:

    I totally believe there is a place for a normal trad that you dont have to pick a lock or break some kind of secret code just something to go find that takes me to a super place i wouldnt of gone to before but I'm slowly starting to realise that people all have a differant view on cache placements and you cant please everyone!

    Someone told me this weekend if they dont like the cache they dont log it - well I think thats probably the right way to do it.

    <end of ran/>

    :P I have to say the area I'm in for the most part I'm very lucky in that we have alot of super caches and its been awesome starting this new hobbie.

    PS I cant wait to come home on holiday and do caches in SA ! :laughing:

  7. I am from SA but have only cached in the uk and I'm not sure if this happens there but sometimes caches can be placed in not nice areas :laughing: with lots of rubbish about here. The worst part is when you go to a place like that and the cache is a horrid little container that is all mank and wet inside with stuff crawling all over it in the bag its been in.

    To be honest I've found very few like that but thats one of the things that anoys me :P

  8. I have noticed that this is a “very hot” topic, but on a lighter note…..

    Do you know what the best part about Alzheimer's disease is??

    1) You can hide your own easter eggs;

    2) You can meet a new friend everyday; and

    3) You can hide your own easter eggs

    :laughing::laughing::P

    funny :P

    I was reading the thread now and totally agree with the yeah its not really the done thing but why worry about what other people are doing. I personaly wouldnt log a cache I placed but if someone chooses to do that let it be on there head :laughing:

  9. If you will need any help in Prague, do not hesitate to contact me via my profile :P

  10. We'd be up for it too, we live in Loughborough. There are several other Leics cachers who don't often frequent these forums (fora?) too, so maybe you could do a search for other locals and email them as well?

    Once we know the date and where we going to meet. We will deffo atempt to get as many people involved :(

    I'm really glad some people have shown intrest. I'm still fairly new to caching and would really like the idea of meeting up every so often to 'swap' stories :D

  11. A cache has just been approved in Leicester where the owner expected any visiting cacher to put the logbook in for him. He simply placed a scrap piece of paper in it and wrote in the cache description that we are to replace it with a logbook, not him, transcribing over any visitors :anibad:

    He's a total newbie with less than 10 caches but still...

    I was under the impression that the basic rules consist of a proper logbook and a cache container, swaps being incidental. Am I right to be unimpressed or should I just quietly fume? :rolleyes:

    wow that would really anoy me :< thats just not fair if you cant or dont have the right things to place a cache should you even place one? tsk tsk! ill fume with you!

  12. Hiya :anibad:

    I've noticed a lot of the other counties have groups and informal - sometimes formal meets. I was wondering if anyone in the Leicestershire area would like to do something similar? (if there already is something like that in place please let me know :rolleyes:)

    I know a lot of cachers are a family not just one person and I'm sure we could organise informal meets to suit family's at suitable times :ph34r:

    If you have any ideas or would like to come to some kind of meet please email me through my profile.

    I look forward to hearing from you :huh:

    Kirstin :D
