  1. It does rather look like this forum would benefit from another permanent moderator, though. This forum is far and away the busiest country forum, and is busier than many other forums with more moderators (though there's one that kind of destroys my argument What do others think? NB: This should not be interpreted as an offer There are many UK cachers far better qualified than I.
  2. Welcome, Hydee. Please don't take this as contentious, because it's intended as a genuine question. If we need a temporary new moderator for the UK forum, could we not find a UK member willing to do it?
  3. You're right: I am amazed. Thanks for educating me. Credit cards are such a way of life here in the UK that I can't conceive how anyone could survive without one. How does one buy petrol for the car, the weekly shopping, mail order goods etc etc? However, interested though I am in the answers, best not post here as we seem to be straying further and further from the topic.
  4. Indeed so, though I'm not aware that this has any effect on the sort of personal finance issues discussed here. I find that Visa/MC are more than happy to move money around the planet for me at very reasonable rates.
  5. The UK has been in the EU (previously known as the EEC and a whole raft of other acronyms) since 1972. Perhaps you're thinking of the European Single Currency, aka the euro?
  6. I'm in Europe (if you call the UK Europe). I had no difficulty whatever in paying my membership fee. Frankly, I think this is just an excuse. I've spent loads of money pursuing this hobby: $30 a year is peanuts in comparison, and the site gives tremendous value for money. And maybe if everyone paid the fee the site would be even better and there'd be no argument about MOCs.
  7. I'd have done the same as you. OTOH, claiming every cache I was within 200m of would certainly boost the numbers. Alan
  8. We've done both of those caches. We dropped a TB in one and later realised how much of a problem it was so went back to get it. Having weighed up the other options, we agree with P&T that it would best if each cache were listed seperately, with the coords for the final being suitably near to the real location as usual. The only downside of this, if you think it so, is that someone can choose to log only one end of the cache, thus destroying the transatlantic cooperation element. Anyway, thanks to Birders and The Ax for setting these up, and for presenting an interesting TB puzzle
  9. We have very few FTFs - 384 cache finds and only 2 real FTFs and another 4 logged on the same day as the FTF. None of the 13 cachers we have met were at any of those FTF caches - some were caches that had been around for a long time.
  10. We've met other cachers at 11 caches but met 2 cachers at 2 of those making 13 different cachers including 2 from overseas. Not sure if that beats Daisy and Me - depends what you count. Anyway the cachers were: g8gxk Lassitude story_generator Imager Happy Hippos Ann & Brian maxytaxy Jessex TawnyRUK The Sweets Bob Smith Cryptik Souls Crew LazyLeopard.
  11. What have you got the model set to in Settings|GPS|Model|Model? It needs to be Garmin PVT, not just Garmin. And the Legend should be in Garmin mode in Setup|Interface.
  12. Has this agreement been looked at by a lawyer? Well, I'm not one, but I'd urge anyone thinking of acting on this agreement to consider their position very carefully. 6b says that it's up to a geocacher to make sure that the FC's paths are safe and suitable. What nonsense. It's their park - they have the duty of care. Even worse, 6c attempts to make geocachers financially liable. Be very careful... Anyway, who wants a sport with so many rules? Permission is one thing, this sort of agreement just removes all the fun. If they don't want caches, fine, it's their land and there are plenty of other places.
  13. Personally I'd prefer that we used the proper countries of the UK like England, Scotland, Wales etc. The United Kingdom is not a country. Yes, I know that's what ISO3166 says, but it also defines the abbreviations for United Kingdom as GB and GBR, so it's obviously flawed.
  14. Thanks for the upgrades, Clyde. An excellent program - keep up the good work. I'm not convinced about the new functionality of adding the code/name filtering to an already existing filter. This means that it no longer searches the whole database for the code/name, and thus gives misleading results. It also seems to cause a "feature" when switching between filters. If I have two filters, each set on different centres but with distances that cause no overlap, then activating one filter then the other will cause two warnings that the filter contains no records. What used to happen is that the current filter would be implicitly cleared before applying the new one, and this is the behaviour I preferred. Can I make a plea for its return, or at least an option? The new way is just too confusing, and it seems unnecessary for me to have to remember to explicitly clear the current filter. What do others think?
  15. Thanks to you both for the offers, and especially to Pipanella for doing the legwork.
  16. S&G.Davison went for our multicache (GCJ5W0) the other day, to find that the box had disappeared. They mailed us the final co-ords and photos to show exactly where the box had been. On the strength of these we felt it only right that they should change their log to a Found. So it depends on circumstances, I guess.
  17. We're seeking assistance with locationless cache GC3153, where you convert your GC username to co-ords and get a fellow cacher to take a photo of their GPS at those co-ords. Our username converts to either W084*39.44x or W094*48.33x depending on whether the "The" is used or not (and others have dropped their "The" so it's acceptable). These lines go through four states covered by this forum: MI, MN, MO & OH. The latitude is not significant, so you've considerable latitude in choosing the location. Anyone out there willing to help us both to log this cache?
