  1. I think it was last summer that my husband found a cache in Montreal on the same day that I couldn't resist going after a FTF here in Oklahoma. But I hesitated, thinking maybe someone would think it fishy that we found physical caches so far apart on the same day! Don't assume that distance in a day is an indicator of foul play. On two occasions I have found caches on different continents in one day. The first I grabbed a cache outside of London, flew home to Missouri and grabbed one when I got off the plane. The last time I grabbed a cache near the airport in Tokyo and again grabbed a cache in Missouri when I deplaned, that trip was 22 hours but with the help of a flight against the international date line I was in the same day at each prospective cache location.
  2. I would guess that the GPS manufacturers used DD MM.MMM because that is what pilots and sailors use on their maps.
  3. If I remember correctly you can trigger the Captcha by logging too quickly, opening lots of tabs at once from a list. I think that once you pass a certain threshold the web site is checking to make sure it isn't being scraped. Being the top control agents you may just be faster than the rest of us.
  4. On the other hand a hint is there so people can find the cache. Since it is doing its intended job why change it?
  5. Minor correction, you get 20 logs plus your own using the GPX button on the cache page.
  6. I am having issues too. Also cannot get PQ to run, it is probably related.
  7. Welcome to the game. Glad you finally gave in to the force.
  8. One might ask why you own a GPS. Rand and McNally makes a fine road map and many auto parts stores sell a compass you can suction cup to your dash. Seems like it would be pointless for you to own a GPS since you enjoy the use of maps and compass so much.
  9. ExpertGPS works will. But I generally use GSAK to create either Streets and Trips files or Street Atlas files that I can view in either program.
  10. Put it at the end of a long hike with no other way too it. That way you won't get random muggles coming across it and thinking they will just carry it out with them.
  11. Remember that recently run caches are placed at the bottom of the que to be run. With the huge growth of caching a PQ that runs every day may just be pushed far enough down the list as to not be run. I don't know how many PQ's a day are being run but on a busy day I can see a boat load of queries. Try creating 7 PQ's that each run once a week instead of every day. That will place your query higher up the run list.
  12. I've seen a magnet glued to the barrel clasp of a necklace used as a nano.

    Asia maps ?

The Dakota will work over there but may require a long time for the first acquisition. Be prepared to let it sit, mine took almost 10 minutes when I got to Japan. The base map is VERY basic, almost useless. You can get pretty good free maps at http://garmin.na1400.info/routable.php I used these maps in Japan and Korea and they were pretty good. Let me know if you need help getting maps from this site.
  14. Let's start with Task 2 first, the special My Finds pocket query is available to download to your computer. Using several different GPX viewers you can sort this any way you want. The current favorite is GSAK and can be found at gsak.net. If you create a pocket query of all your finds using the selection on the pocket query page you will not get archived caches on that list. Task 1 has been requested for many years. Quadrant selection is something that probably wont be made available. But to help out with your problem of overlapping caches do this. Create a radius that covers the entire area you want to cover. Then use the placed during as a selection (at the bottom of the pocket query page) to limit the number of caches returned to 500. Then using the end date of the first query as the start date of the next query create another query. This will allow you to return all the caches in the area with very little overlap. You can then use the previously mentioned GSAK to create your quadrant
  15. Never used them in Costa Rica but I did use them in England, Italy, Greece, Bahrain, Japan and South Korea this year. Roads have been really good but sometimes street names are different and the POI are very lacking. For navigation they work great.
  16. It just worked fine for me. One thing that used to happen in the past was if you used GSAK to upload the caches to your GPS and used names instead of the GC code it won't upload with field notes because the name isn't tied to the cache.
  17. Also know that if you go over the 14 character limit you can lose the uniqueness of a name For instance if the name of two caches are This is a really long cache name - John Adams This is a really long cache name - George Washington Both will show up on the GPS as This is a rea1 This is a rea2 You won't know which is which
  18. Ah, so I have to spend money and get in bed and join the satanic Apple cult to do it. rats. And here I thought Groundspeak was just a listing service that doesn't play favorites to one brand (at least that's what they tell Garmin with their Chirp). No you can use Trimble on many phones, I use mine on a Blackberry and the SMS option will work on any phone that can send text messages.
  19. You can do this with several of the mobile apps I believe, I know that using Geocache Navigator by Trimble will post a tweet when you log a find. See here for mobile app integration http://www.geocaching.com/my/sharing.aspx Also using your phone you can use SMS to tweet. See here http://coord.info/textmark.aspx
  20. Asking someone for their My Finds is a violation of the terms of use for the query. It is the cachers responsibility to provide proof of completion. However if you head over to the GSAK forums there is probably one of the macro gurus that can create a macro for you that will graphically prove that the challenge is meet.
  21. I will favorite archived caches because they were my favorite. I will never even come close to using all my favorite points, I will be lucky to use ten percent of my favorites I will search out high number favorite caches even if they are unremarkable because even and unremarkable historic cache is better than a box store micro I will be archiving any cache I own that doesn't have at least two favorites after a year of being placed with one exception. My first placed cache will be available as long as I am a cacher. This will improve the quality of caches in Kansas City. This is the extent of my New Year resolutions.
  22. Four hours!!!! You could have like 150 finds in that amount of time.
  23. My grandfather, an extremely wise man doesn't have an enemy in the world. His words of wisdom to me.... I like all people, I just like some of them farther away from me than others. And from the great philosopher Goofy talking to Mickey Mouse, in what can only be attributed to him hearing me sing. "I sound like a jackass trying to imitate the last gurgle out of a bathtub." In fact if anyone has the sound bite of Goofy say that from an old disney record circa 1970ish I would love to have it. BTW, don't enter me in the cointest, I just wanted to show my support since I couldn't grow a Mo if my life depended on it.
  24. Have you increased the distance of the PQ? Also if you copy the URL and post it here we can take a look at your settings and maybe help you out more.
