  1. No, not at all. Plus, you don't see the "distance from home" for those caches. Interesting. For all the accounts that I know their home location for it is true that one of their farthest N/E/S/W caches is also their farthest from home. I must be an exception then The further away you live from the prime meridian, the more wrong it will be. Can you explain this? I understand that a cache can be further than one of your north-south-east-west caches, but it doesnt have anything to do with the prime meridian..... Maybe distance from the equator...but not prime meridian. If you live at the 180 degree lines your farthest W and E caches could be inches from your home.
  2. To the OP 74.45% of my finds are 100 miles from home while 49.30% are greater than 500 miles from home Farthest North Cache - Beyond Top of the World GC1YYCZ Farthest South Cache - Devil's Throat GCG5AM Farthest East Longitude - Wedding Bells (Gongs) GC2140B Farthest in an East direction from my home - Arches and Pearls GC194FB Farthest West Longitude - Thanks to Belynda GCRGKY Farthest in a West direction from my home - Hanging Cache GC25AE6 Farthest from my home - The Tree of Life GCP4ZC

You can count me in the group that my farthest from home is not the same cache as my farthest NEWS
  4. It appears that this is only to mark waypoints of places you are currently at so that you can return. Even at 40 bucks you can get one cheaper.

  6. Wild dogs will eventually find the shed and carry it off to chew on.
  7. no knives in caches food either. I work for a pharmacy automation company, imagine my stress at seeing all those cache containers being used for pills. (just kidding of course, vials make terrible cache containers)
  8. I bought 400 dollars worth of plane tickets to find 4 caches in Barrow Alaska. Does that count?
  9. I don't use the Magellan so I am not 100 percent sure about the answers that apply to loading caches on the gps. But a couple things to try Are you unzipping the files before putting them on the GPS and putting them in the correct directory? On a Garmin if you have the same cache in two different files they unit will use the most current one. When you select the run once and delete you still have to select the day you want it to run.
  10. Are you selecting a day for the query to run?
  11. The GPS should be water resistant to that depth. A call to Garmin may get the unit replaced even if it is out of warranty as it should not have allowed water inside. Doesn't hurt to call.
  12. If you are using Firefox try CTRL - to make the text inside the dialog box smaller and therefor bringing the download button back into view.
  13. On my cache I would delete the log, on a friends cache I would point it out to my friend, on someone elses cache I would just ignore it.
  14. As a seeker of counties (1271 county/equivilents found so far) I highly recommend GSAK and Street Atlas. With GSAK and the following macros you can see progress FindStatGen In addition to a county map has MANY other tricks up its sleeve Remove found counties This one will remove all the caches from GSAK that are in counties that you have already completed. I also use Street Atlas with custom map overlays that show the counties on the maps. This makes it easier for me to plan trips to clean out counties. I can email the draw files for any state you are interested in.
  15. You should also know that depending on where you live the maps may be 100s of feet off. But the position of the cache relative to you may be right on.
  16. At some point the file association for your browser has been set to open with notepad. Try right clicking on the link and select download this file. At the bottom of that dialog box should be an option to do this from now on. Select that and it should reset the link. You could also right click on the link and select open with winzip as the option.
  17. For me it is a simple matter of simplifying my adventure. I don't want to go to two different places to find something to look for. Geocaching is where I started so I stick with that. If I didn't have to go to a second site and could pull up waymarks from the geocache page or in a pocket query I would do them as well.
  18. You remember incorrectly. You cannot dig with anything.
  19. If you store maps on a memory card there is a possibility that the contacts are not making good contact to the card any more. I have a Garmin Colorado that has that issue. But after many thousands of air miles and hundreds of flights I have never had an issue cause by the travel.
  20. One of the problems you may be running up against in your particular location is that each stage is unknown. There might be a container there but you don't know until you search. If you place your cache stages there they may be misidentified as the containers for the other cache.
  21. You might also post at http://mogeo.ipbhost.com That is where most of the KC folks hang out.
  22. Yep, I know why. You can find out at the Observatory or if you really want to know you can send me a PM and I will let you know.
  23. Greenwich Observatory is actually W of the 00 00.000 coordinates. Take the trip of the observatory and find out why. Also you need to look at the Harrison Clocks. They are what made accurate navigation around the world possible.
