  1. Points of clarification: 1) I work in Law Enforcement but in the jail and do not have a patrol car and not able to cache while I am working. Accusations, especially when they are incorrect, can have negative ramifications and should be checked before being made. 2) The third "guy" was a couple in their 30's WITH two of their young children. johngie, I am sorry you assume I was talking about you. i was not. That comment and the example were obiously place too close together and should have been seperated more clearly. As you said, you should verify facts before making specific accusations. I never said anything about you. I do not know you or your vocation. You are not a cop...so it is not you. Simple. Also, can we move on? Really, I am sorry If you took what I wrote as being about you. It is not. Friends? Grace and Peace -WHO-DEY
  2. IF I GET ONE MORE EMAIL FROM YOU GUYS ABOUT "BEING CAREFUL ABOUT SAYING THINGS ABOUT FELLOW CACHERS" I MAY EXPLODE!!! That post was from APRIL and it did not accuse anyone in particular of anything. I did not know Johngie was a jail worker...it was not about or referencing him, as he seems to assume. The facts remains that 4 men get 95% of all FTF's in Ottowa County. ICARED ABOUT GETTING A FTF FOR A FEW MONTHS FOR MY SON. I DO NOT CARE ANYMORE. I DO NOT DO FTF ANYMORE. LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!!!!! STOP EMAILING ME WITH BEHAVIORAL TIPS!!!! Man, you guys are taking this WAAAYY to seriously. This is a fun hobby, not a sacred thing. Let's move on! Like SuperFly said...go find a cache! wow. Grace and Peace, -WHO-DEY
  3. Points of clarification: 1) Yes I work in Law Enforcement, but in the jail, so there is no way for me to cache while working. 2) Making accusation about caching while on duty (spending tax payer's money) can have bad ramifications for the person being accused, especially if its not true. 3) Accusations should be check to make sure they are correct before making them. When we see a new cache come up in our area, us and our 4 CHILDREN are out of the house in under 90sec (btw, our kids are 10, 9, 7, and 10 months) because it is a COMPETITION to get FTFs and we know we have to cruise to get them. Last week we arrived at a cache 9 min after it was posted and were still beat out by tourists caching here from K-Zoo. No hard feelings, because the whole fun of caching is just in the challenge and adventure of finding a cache. My suggestion to all is to try to enjoy just finding the caches and spending time with your family doing it(much better than TV or video games) don't make it a competition unless you are ready to compete. BTW, Johngie, Sfly, and all the other cachers we have met are helpful, kindhearted people that are far more concerned with having fun and helping other cachers than they are about snatching a FTF. Please don't spread false rumors about others, even careless, frustrated words can cause big trouble for others-as Johngie said. Also, good caching friends of our who have loads of FTFs go out with their children who are even younger than ours! ~Jason P.S. Geocaching is meant to be a fun and interactive community, we know many local cachers, participate in some of the meet n greets(which are open to all) and even have get togethers. While we are all friendly with each other, we don't form any "survivor" type alliances, or clue each other in to upcoming FTFs, its a game of honor, and none of us would corrupt that. well said AbsPhoto.

Johngie, I never accused you. That was not a reference to you. We have never met nor do I know anyone who knows you or your career choice. Perhaps a new paragraph would have seperated the two thoughts and eliminated your assumptions. If you notice. I said "a few are even cops" not "one of them". And you are not a cop...so nuff said. Sorry for the confusion... Grace and Peace -WHO-DEY
  5. My best FTF experiance is now any cache that I beat WHO-DEY to. BTW did it ever occur to you when you went to find your precious FTF in the parking lot of Gentex-----I WORK AT GENTEX OF COURSE I WILL BEAT YOU THERE. Stop your whining and start caching! well...you will enjoy them all because between you and the other four men in the area, my son will never have a FTF. Simply, I do not try any longer for FTF. Nor am I putting any prize in my own caches for a FTF any longer. Why pad the same mens pockets? You four can beat eachother up for the FTF's. think about it..You were at 180 ftf's in May...now you are at 209. You, as you say it "work harder than most" So enjoy your obsession.... And, please correct me if I am wrong, but you work in another GENTEX facility, not this one. Please do make it sound like you walked out of the back door after punching out....or you were next door. See the log I pasted below on the same cache for the narrative on the FTF houndfest that ensued in search for a FTF. Nice try. from Johngie. "Find #1859. I was woken by my phone chirpping and when I looked at it I saw some new caches in the area. I got up and got dressed and jumped into the Geo-blazer and headed off for this location. On the way I hear a horn honk and see Superfly in my rear view mirror. We pull into one location and we find out that we are close by not close enough. As we enter the second location we see Absophoto pull in a head of us. After a short search we found the container. We open the log book and find it blank. FTF #148 shared with Absophoto and Superfly. First cache found using the iphone geocaching app. TFTCSL" Grace and Peace -WHO-DEY
  6. he was banned because he threatened other members and used very vulgar language in PM's to those members. I should know...I was one of them. His pile of coins in his unpublished cache likely did not help, either. If I recall, he changed his name and got a free membership, so he got emails of published caches..and in Alaska...unlike West Michigan, you can wait a few minutes becore the hornets nest of FTF hounds is stirred to the cache.
  7. I have a buddy who wants to change his cache name, but not change his account, stats, all that...just a name change. Is that possible? I would love to tell him it is possible. See, he made a mistake in his name. He named himself after the wrong creek. HELP!! -Adam
  8. it may be the software that is the PITA in some cases, for some users....but the process and the need that is a PITA
  9. While I think the idea of splitting it off is rubbish, it's not for this reason. Reviewers don't get involved in size issues now (with, I'm sure, a very few exceptions). That's generally left up to the owner's discretion. It's not likely to change. so this is about the reviewers...and not about the paying or non=paying members? My error.
  10. Ah, yes, sorry, traditional caches only. since this is designed for "jr's" or kid's...does it exclude Micro's or nano's? I hope so.
  11. sure..that is what is done now. ....and everytime I want to cache, I need to then...: A- consider who I am going with, B- boot up the computer, C- go to GEOCACHING.COM D- log in E- download the apropriate PQ, F- go to my email, G- log in, H- find the email/query, I- unzip it, J- hook up the GPS, K- upload it, L- remove any unwanted GPX files previously on the GPS, M- remove GPS N- verify upload was a success O- cache my pants off REPEAT NEXT TIME YOU CACHE WITH A NEW PARTY. OR!... OR you could give the option of a different type, therefore a different ICON and we could keep ALL our caches on my GPS. Or create the option in PQ's for a different icon on one size or another. We would then enjoy caching that much more. And to stop the next statement from someone...I know 3rd party software may be able to d this. But then my list above would likely go all the way to "Z".
  12. Just to offer a bit of Devil's Advocacy here; in reading the OP, and the subsequent posts, I don't think they are confused about size and type. The OP seems to be up to speed on what these terms mean, at this website. What I think is that they want a particular size of cache to be "moved" from size to type. Clan Riffster - you are correct. Due to the size limitations micros/nanos are burdened with, they are hunted, or not hunted, based solely on that. I am not sure I know anyone who avoids amo cans, lock n locks, etc but I know loads that choose to or not to hunt if something is a micro/nano based on many factors. If I could tell, without looking at the cache listing for the size, it would be great! Great for me and you. I am drawing the line in the proposal there. Do not say what if this, and what if that. That proposal alone is enough and would not cause an issue in any way, to anyone. And it would benefit many. Or hey, make the icon differentiation a choice when creating yur PQ. Then all are happy.
  13. Why? How fine of a distinction should there be? Should we skip these intermediate steps of breaking out sizes and just go with a designation of which container is used? A=Ammo Can, B=Bison, L=Lock-n-Lock, F=Film Can, etc. Then size is the size within that category. AR = Ammo Can, Regular. BL=Bison, Large. Would that suffice? We are not proposing that level of itemization in sizing. Simpley micro/nano are thir own...and all else larger are traditional.
  14. heck yes. there are a couple old guys around me that, instead of putting thought and effort into a cache, will drop a micro. even if their old pb jar gets too old, they replace that cache with a micro. it stinks. Outisde of urban areas where you have little choice, I think larger caches are the way to go.
  15. Scratch that. I probably don't need an Oregon in my hands. Download a normal PQ to your Oregon. Then go in and change the icons manually for a few of the caches. Then upload the GPX file back to your computer and email both the new and old GPX files to me. I should be able to see the differences and tell you how to configure Spinner to work for you. i am pretty sure I tried that...I am willing to give it a whirl again.
  16. sorry. You are right in one regard. I do not know the code that is sent. Also, I am not a programmer that borrows code to create a program that does not work for the newest, most popular GPS on the market. Once you get it to work for the Oregon...than the code that you mention might mean something because Garmin can actually do something with it.
  17. Sure they are. They're both at the posted coords, and they both contain a logsheet. that is weak. where do you put the coin or tb? where do I leave my sig card? where do i sign more than barely a date and tiny name? why are my kids mad? Where do I put my matchbox car or ring ..and where is the swag my kids want? etc etc etc boy...if I had an essy way to look at my GPS and tell that this was a MICRO, I may decide not to find it right now. GPS SPINNER...this is not about principle, it is about makeing the game better for more people that may not be like you, o rme. Why not. I ask you..WHY NOT?
  18. It seems to me that on the Oregon, the unit knows that something is a geocache because it has the the GPX file and should be able to use fields other than the sym to know this is a geocache. Perhaps you should be petitioning Garmin to update the firmware to allow alternate symbols for micros. Garmin, in our case, may need to be involved, but it STARTS with GC.com. They need to include the information in the file that it is a micro...the paperless cache page is not enough to tell the GPS to go to "X" icon instead of the treasue chest, or the green box etc.
  19. You are wrong. Traditional caches are clearly defined and it specifically says they might not contain swag, only a logbook (or logsheet). According to that definition, a micro is a traditional cache. ...that is why we are asking for a change. they need to be seperated. I hollowed out bolt is not the same, in so many ways, than any lock/lock or ammo can.
  20. I wish I had more information on why this is not working on the Oregon 400t. Mine is on order and I probably won't get it before late next week. It seems that perhaps the Oregon ignores the sym element for geocaches. I am only talking about GPX SPINNER thrid party softwarenot working with the Oregon. PQ's rock on the 400t. No worries. I love mine. Sorry if I scared ya.
  21. There are 63-ish posts in this thread and I count a grand total of THREE (3) cachers who agree with you (plus one who can't make up his/her mind). All the other posts either disagree with your position, have no comment on your position but advocate for a new "nano" size, or are general fluff. And all you see is positive? the negatives are just "no" they do not post real, unsolvable, problems outside of personal opinion. The positives I see are the reasons to do it, not the replies from the minority percentage that peruse the forum.
  22. There are 63-ish posts in this thread and I count a grand total of THREE (3) cachers who agree with you (plus one who can't make up his/her mind). All the other posts either disagree with your position, have no comment on your position but advocate for a new "nano" size, or are general fluff. And all you see is positive? But for the record, let us rehash: 1. "Micro" is, by definition, a size not a type. If you create new Micro cache type, can I hide a large container and list it as a Micro? for the umpteenth time. we are not questioning the current definitions. Keep them defined as they are now. Just split it off. Not asking for more sizes, that is a created problem or issue by another poster that was not asked for in the OP. There is no need for that. 2. If micro is the type, how would you distinguish between a puzzle, multi, traditional, letterbox-hybrid (yes, I've seen a LBH-Micro), and Wherigo style hunt? Are you saying that only Traditional micros are in the new category? What about a simple puzzle that leads to a 5-star evil custom-made micro in a heavily muggle-infested area... is this a micro, or a puzzle? Under your system you can't have both. Puzzles are puzzles. they are considered a wild card. The siaze is never listed anyway...right? regarding multi's etc.Just change the icon...simple. 3. Of COURSE the hunt style is different between a micro/nano and larger caches. It's also different between caches in wooded, urban, and desert areas. Some micros are hidden in obvious places (LPC), and some are almost impossible (like a blinky stuck to a bit of green floral wire hidden in some ivy). Some regulars can be see from a dozen feet away, and some are so well camo'd that it takes hours of searching to find. Should there also be a different icon for caches hidden in the desert (it's always under the bush, or under the pile of rocks)? What about a different cache type for water caches (boat or SCUBA)? Just because the hunt style is different doesn't qualify the style for a new cache type. no. this post is not about those examples. Just Micros and nanos.
  23. I saw that post. I also saw that it was an old reply to a post in November 2008. Is that the only reason? A moderator saying he would personally say no? Not really persuasive. Also, re: the 3rd party comment. I know you have your own 3rd party software GPX SPINNER. I tried it, you were great helping me via email and on the forum. BUt it did not work for the OREGON 400t. So as I said...3rd party is a PITA and it is another step that a member has to go through on every PQ he/she uses. That alone is a PITA.
  24. And I submit that you 'have not heard a valid reason' because you don't want to. A lot of valid reasons have been brought up...and it doesn't matter if we turn ourselves blue in the face explaining them to you again because you still wouldn't agree with them. WHAT ARE THEY? Saying that the size is listed somin the cache listing is not a reason. What we are asking has nothing to do with that. If they are there..tell me. please.
