  1. next tie I go out, likely this weekend, I will take a photo or two of some. Maybe it will help in the understanding for most that may have never seen the trend I am referring to. They are like a computer printed image(s), with the name of the cacher on a 2x3 card, laminated and left6 in the cache. No coins laminated in as UNDERTREE mentioned they do, in a previous post. Just a card. Left in the bottom of the ammo cans all over Michigan.
  2. I need to correct something, I think.. they are the SIZE of business cards. they are not actual business cards...they are printouts, rectangular in shape..maybe you all knew that. one thing I do want to say...there have been ALL courteous, nice, respectful responses. Well done. That is why I like this hobby and this forum.
  3. Many people like sig items, and I'm one. The laminated business card is not a favorite of mine. I've seen and have in my collection many unique and niffy items. My collection of wooden nickels is increasing. Yes I leave one, a monopoly money with my avatar on the back with a "jholly was here". I always sign the log book, although I must admit I don't put much verbiage in the logbook, I save that for the online version. I find it interesting that folks might not recognize my name when we first meet, but they remember the sig item. Jim I have seen a few of those wooden nickels around here...I like those. my son does too.
  4. OK, now I just feel bad. No, that is what My son and I do. We are in zero hurry. Maybe it is a regional thing. I should say that here in Michigan, they are increasingly common. As I go with my son95% of the time, I ma always trading SWAG for kids, some for adults, but SWAG none the less. And we always SLT, and look through it when we are about to sign it. And my son calls them "treasures" too!
  5. You may be right. I do not mean to say that anyone is really lazy, but a guy who has placed some caches with his son...one of the fun things as an owner, is to look at the comments in the log book. Not the cards. Maybe I am on an island on this one. Really, once i figured out what they were, after i first started cahcing, I do not even look at them, nor does my son, nor does anyone I am with.
  6. OK, I am knowingly entering this topic expecting some responders to be those who leave them. Pelase do not be mad or offended. I am just wondering if I am alone in my dislike of these little laminated space-taker-uppers. OK. You open up a cache and inside...a dozen or two of those laminated business card size signature cards from people who found the cache. They may or, usually, may not sign the log. Just open, plop it in, and go. I never look at them anymore. They are all over. Does anyone else look at them? Are they from lazy Cachers? Does anyone else get annoyed by seeing so many in the log book bacg, or just all over? I mean really? people can totally do whatever they want...but do the people that leave thse realize that, perhaps, nobody EVER looks at them? That they just sit tehre on the bottom of the container.... My fellow cahcer and I were talking about this on Saturday when we were out caching. We are like minded...so I though maybe there were more like us. OR, MATBE I AM WAY OFF BASE, AND WRONG....it has happened before. Once.
  7. How can a person in the USA tell if his OR 400t has WAAS lock?
  8. OK...HERE IT IS. I always have my camera and cell. The camera is like STATIC TANKS...but in orange. It is an Olympus Stylus 790 SW. That is my Vizsla, LucyBell. She loves the woods...and birds...or any other critter. So, the contents, in no particular order... Garmin Oregon 400t with case 12Alkaline batteries...always have juice! Nice nice... 9. you should roll it right off the counter, and into the trash. It is a micro.
  10. ALRIGHT...I will post mine tonight....if my kid's will allow me the time. I love this thread..it cannot die.
  11. I am using Energizer Alkalines for now in my Oregon 400t. I had a ton on hand. depending on what I am doing, and how often the backlight is requested to be on...it cna burn kind of quickly, all things being relative. I can cache all day, and i am alright with a pair. MY QUESTIONS IS THIS: WHAT RECHARGEABLES ARE RECCOMENDED, BRAND ETC? AND HOW LONG IS THE LIFE, FROM WHAT YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED? I would like to buy some..looking for a reference.
  12. I am really starting to a confidence about the idea that DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU ARE...your Oregon will have different reactions. The comparison above with the 60 and the 400t is obviously not user wide. That is an anomoly on your unit...or your location. I am in Michigan USA. Mine gets single digit accurracy 8/10 times...outside that. low teens. I do not have drift issues in my tracklogs..nor does it ever lock up. there is a 2 second delay when changing profiles that was not present in 2.80...but who cares...I see the hourgass..then I don't, and my profile is changed. If people who updated and ha d positive experience would post on here more..the negatives would be less magnified. I do not think the negatives should be overlooked...just not made into any kind of standard, as they seem to be on occasion. -WHO-DEY
  13. I really want to see 10 posts in a row where the word "tracklog" is not used. [] I just upped to 2.86. I live in Michigan...so I will see what I see.
  14. After finding my share, and placing one Micro (however deep in a trail saturated with other traditional caches)...I have comfortably rested on the conclusion UMHO that 98% of all MiCRO'S AND NANO'S ARE FOR THE LAZY CACHER. Especially he/she who CONSTANTLY places them. It seems like, with little exception, Micro-placing cachers place ALOT of that size cache...and rarely a traditional. Anyway..my rant is done for now as well.
  15. I go out with my 4.5 year old son. He HATES Micros and Nano's. because tehr eis no "treasure" in them. he will go through the whole container, or dump it out and go through it. I then let him pick out what he wants to put in. He has a chest at home he puts all his "treasures" in. I do go out with my friend who is a premium member. He and I usually do it for the walk, and for TB's. But he goes with his sone as well. You need to use this hobby as an excuse and reason to spend time with your family AWAY FROM THE TV AND VIDEO GAMES! I know My son and I have seen so many cool things he NEVER would se otherwise. Deer, owls, hawks, rivers, lakes. We take our dog sometimes, he loves that. It is "real" time...not "pastime". Anyway...I feel pretty strong about it. I love my boy. And we will see if his 2 year old sister will like it too...later. -Adam
  16. As I go with my son, I ignore ALL micros and nano's. Hate em. I found a few, but they are a waste of time and server space IMHO. I hid one, because I had the container and log given to me. AND IT IS DEEP IN THE WOODS..not in a PG light skirt. The container is big enough for a coin or small TB. Very small TB. But I will never hide another. Micro's and Nano's are lazy caches IMHO.
  17. OREGON IMHO The screen issue is not really an issue. Remember, for every negative review somewhere, there as 300 happy owners.
  18. true...I just posted what I found....here is the form, via the link above... http://www8.garmin.com/whatsNew/currentpro...ries_rebate.pdf
  19. Forget that the Colorado even exists. If it comes down to one or the other for you, go with the Oregon. The Colorado seems to have been abandoned by Garmin as far as fixing any of the known issues. Also, most of us have found the scroll wheel to be very awkward to use. I think you'll pretty much find a concensus here for the Oregon. I second that. On Amazon the price is $461 for the ORegon 400t vs $379.99 for the Colorado 400t. that is $81.00 difference. There is a $50 Mail in Rebate o the Oregon starting TODAY 2/27/09 through Garmin...so that makes it a $31.00 difference. You decide. I have the Oregon 400t...tried/demo'd the Colorado 400c...the wheel would drive me batty. GO OR! I love it. FYI..I came frrom using a 60CSX...and was nervous...but now am 100% sure I made the right call inm the switch.
  20. I am a faithful fan since I was a kiddo. I love Cinci, BTW. Such a nice city. As long as you do not like the Steelers..I am good with you.
  21. for a regular size cache..I like to. I do not really buy anything...but I may include a presidential dollar coin...or something along those lines. Lately, I have tried to gear it more to a child, as the FTF'ers are always adults...never kids (IMHO).
  22. I just went from a 60CSX to an Oregon 400t. After all the whiney emails/reviews about the dim screen, the drift, the accuracy etc., I have to say loudly that I hvae had ZERO issue with anything I have done so far. The accuracy, on an overcast, winter Michigan afternoon is 11-17ft.. It is the same as my 60CSX ever got. I am on v 2.8. So more upgrades may come soon under the beta 2.86. All the worry was for nothing. I did try the Colorado 400c at West Marine, to help me decide. I have to say, FOR ME, the rock and roll whell would drive me batty. For geocaching, the field notes, and upload is slick. It is nice, solid, bright when needed, saves on battery when you are not looking at it by dimming (and you can set the options on that). I do not regret it...and I was nervous. I was nervous because the 60CSX treated me right. It was accurate, and well built. I would reccomend either the 60CSX or the Oregon series. WHO-DEY
  23. That is right! "........ NNNOOOOBODY!" I see you are from Cinci.....
