  1. I have to admit that I am very entertained by this thread. Out of curiosity, how many of you have frequented a third world country for more than a few months? I am curious how you would deal with "hygiene" there.
  2. just when i thought it couldn't get worse.
  3. It seems you live up to your screen name.
  4. In the chat room, some admitted to blood and other various different methods (some of which were listed here). It's kind of interesting to see what people this is gross and what others don't. I wish I worded the question a little better because, essentially, the question I was looking for an answer to is "would you do this if you have NO other tools or utensils on you and you were entirely too far to 'walk back for one?'" Some of the ideas here were pretty good. It's always fun to see how cachers improvise.
  5. So you forgot your pencil and/or pen again. Have you used the quill pen and ink method with ink that your body own body produces in massive amounts that just so happens to have the shade of red? My wife seems to think the idea is insane. What about you? How about a pseudo GC poll... Done it. Thought about it. Haven't done it or thought of it. You're a sicko!
  6. Then we have the same goal. Right now, I am trying to get my trial premium membership going. I want to try out those pocket queries and such and see how it all can go together with my GSPr and Palm (I am trying to do paperless now).
  7. That's great man. I have found four also. I want to go to Mt. Lemon soon, but my wife and I are planning a trip on the weekend of the 9th to Madera Canyon. Bunch of caches there and lots of hikes. Can't wait. It's been awhile since we have gone camping/hiking because of out young son (9 mo. tomorrow).
  8. Ooooh. I have been wanting to take a trip there with my family. I hear a lot of great things.
  9. Not a bad point! Plus, it seems to be the "bottom" layer of maps, so it should be a big deal.
  10. Ahhh... you have to do that while in the (I) menu. You can do it from the others. It looks like this Garmin actually overlaps the maps. So, if I have City on, it covers my topos. So, depending on my need, I guess that is how I switch back and forth. Question, should I just disable the base map? Is there anything on it worth keeping once you add your own map? I wonder if there are hotkeys on this thing... to speed up changing of maps... all well. Thanks for you input.
  11. Hmm. I did that. Problem though, when I go to the setup menu as you said, now it lists probably 50-100 maps. It's impossible to scroll through and select/deselect stuff. I thought it would simply show the two types of maps I installed, city and topo, and then allow me to choose between the two. Instead, it seems like it lists all the map segments as individual maps...
  12. Thanks! I saw this before, but it was never showing mroe than one map. it seems when I upload maps, it replaces the previous one. I wonder how I upload city maps AND topos so I can choose... i guess this is my next task.
  13. Okay. Here is the verdict: Hotmail and Groundspeak hate each other. Do not mix together. Results are unpredictable and may cause a rash. I am going to let Groundspeak know that way maybe that can put a warning on their sites for hotmail users.
  14. Currently, it looks like gmail gets the emails, but when it forwards them to my hotmail account, hotmail eats those too. :/ Still trying to figure things out...
  15. I tell you all what, can some of you just go to my profile and click send message and just write me a simply test message? That will help. Profile: http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=2f...64-f32e96f6bf6f I just change my email from hotmail to google and it still doesn't seem to work. :/ Thanks.
  16. I have been noticing some issues with the "send message" link on GC. Has anyone been having this problem recently? I had two more folks test this and email me and I am not getting any emails from GC users. As a now, I created a trouble ticket on this with Groundspeak. They responded very fast, but with the typical email problem reply. He was my response so no one asks me the same thing. Anyway, can some of you all test this feature amongst yourself or me to see if it is working properly? Thanks! Be sure to post here if you are also having issues.
  17. Hey wow! Thanks man. I will definitely do that. I guess I also have to figure out how to switch between maps on my GPSr. Thanks!
  18. Hey! I got it yesterday and spent more time than I should have playing with it... erm... I mean, setting it up. I put some topos on my Vista HCx and was a bit disappointed by the maps. I understand they they aren't the most accurate in terms of streets, but it displayed my house coordinates as 0.3 mi south of where I was. The coordinates on my GPSr are accurate and I am going to double check later with a benchmark, but the maps aren't great where I am. My beef then is with Garmin and their topo maps. It's not just them because TotemLake entered the coordinates on his Magellan map software and it also put me ~ 0.3 mi South. WeightMan really did a lot to help me out and taught me a lot off the bat when it comes to maps, how they were made, datums, and etc. Anyway, WeightMan was nice enough to check out my coordinates and determined that the Garmin City Navigator maps are much better for roads. So, whenever I get those maps, I will be much happier. (Note: Met these guys in the GC chatroom.) I am going camping/hiking/caching in two weeks and I am really curious is the topos are accurate with POI's and such at least while on the trail. I can understand the roads on a topo not being the best. I found my first cache! I went against the grain for newbies and tried to find a micro for my first cache. I picked this one because it was out of the way and so I wouldn't feel so awkward. It was on the way to work this morning, it wasn't hard to find and I am happy! So, what about you? Have you gone out trobs007? Looks like your profile says one find! How are you liking your Vista HCx?
  19. News Update: Newly purchased GPSr en route. Last known status: ALBUQUERQUE, NM, US 04/22/2008 5:16 A.M. DEPARTURE SCAN Since I am in Tucson, I figure there is a good chance I can get my GPSr today... I hope... maybe. All I know is, it's so tempting to come home early for work. I am sure this would classify as a holiday -- GPSr day!
  20. No! I am sitting at home in agony! lol Last known status is as follows: OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, US 04/21/2008 6:25 A.M. DEPARTURE SCAN I guess it has been en route for the last 14 hours. Anyway, what about you? You have had it for some time, right? Have you found and caches with it? How is it treating you?
  21. Wow. Thanks for the input. It really helps. I am so tempted to get a 4GB card (if it even works). I want to maximize what I load.
  22. Makes you wonder why people buy things in stores at all anymore. I still usually buy from stores for big purchases because of my lack of trust for things online, but I am slowly changing that view.
