  1. It looks like it was a another great Trailmix. That is a huge number of cachers. How did the restaurant handle the after hike group? MMMMMM.... Cow quesadillas!!
  2. I will ask about camping when I meet with Sandy (parks superintendent) in a couple of months. There are quite a few campsites, so I would imagine it should not be a problem to get some together. Chris
  3. As long as nobody objects, Team Shydog would like to host the 2009 Indiana Geocaching Spring Picnic. I would like to have it at France Park near Logansport again. We hosted it here in 2005, with soooooo many new cachers since then, I think it would work to have it here again. Here is the link to one of my caches in the park so you can get a feel for the area, The Zen of France(Park) I am looking at the picnic being held Saturday May 9, 2009. Yes, I know that the 10th is Mother's Day, what better way to spend some time with your mum then to spend it caching I didn't want to make it the next weekend because that is getting a little close to Geowoodstock in Tenn. I don't want to be too tired for Woodstock!! I am coming up with some fun ideas, anyone that wants to lend a hand is more then welcome to come on board. I will put the cache page in for review sometime near the beginning of the new year. Thoughts or questions? Chris-Team Shydog
  4. I second what CYBret said. Asking permission is not that hard to do and can lead to a good relationship with the landowner and geocachers. I have a cache on DNR property that is permitted and it was not a hassle at all, it only took me about 15 minutes to get it approved by the land manager. I did have to attend a Board meeting to explain geocaching to the Cass County Parks Department when I wanted to place caches at France Park by Logansport. But after giving my little talk, they were very happy to allow caches in the park. I hate to "cold call" anywhere about anything, but I think it is worth it so I can place quality caches in places I want to show others. Chris-Team Shydog

    ISQ Finds

Something cool I noticed after looking at the newest list is that there are at least 6 different states are represented.

  7. SHHHHHHHHHH...... Don't mention bear around my campsite or we might all be up all night long!!!
  8. I agree with the others, Go and have fun. There is usually a sign in table or some other sort of central gathering spot. This is where you might want to go first. The host or hosts of the event will most likely be there. Just introduce yourself to them. There might be name tags, put one on and start to wander around the area. You will start to notice names that look familiar from on line log entries in your area. If you see a familiar name, go up and say "Hi". You might find yourself talking about your favorite cache find or hide, different types of cache containers or just about anything else geocaching related. For me time seems to fly at events and I find myself looking forward to the next one. Depending on the type or theme of the event, you might go with a group of cachers to find some caches during or after the event. Some events are meet and greets where you sit around at a restaurant for a few hours talking. Other events might have you out finding caches, either hiking or a road rally. As for the liquid encouragement question, most events are family oriented so use your own judgment on that one. Good luck and I hope you enjoy yourself. Chris-Team Shydog

  13. I too had the pleasure of having the MWGB Mystery Parrot pay a visit to me. I was keeping myself busy with a little silly project over at Area 51. There were a ton of people around having a great time. Over the low roar of the crowd I heard a shout of "RING OF FIRE". This got my attention and when I looked up, there was a small blue parrot coin sitting on the counter top. The poor little guy seemed to be thirsty, so I set him up with a little something and he was very happy. I really don't know why the Mystery Parrot choose me, do you think it had to do with the head gear I was wearing?? Whatever the reason, I was very grateful for the visit and coin, it will have a special place in my collection.
  14. Here is the group photo from the Bash Group Photo

    ISQ Finds

Here is another cool page. I thought of the ISQ series when this one came out awhile ago. I believe you can log this Earthcache at any cemetery that you find one of these headstones in. Indiana's Hindostan Whetstone
