  1. Ammo can repainted to match the hide. On two sides painted in 1" letters. Geocache name of cache and owners name and email address. Tupperware is not good for most caches in this area because of the dampness and heat. + some cachers cant get them closed properly. Somthing with a screw closed lid would work but damp contents just suck.
  2. for oak and ivy I use ivarest cream. They also have a wash to use when you know that you have had contact. To wash off (now dont laugh) I use mineral spirits. It bonds with the oil in ivy and oak and allowes it to be washed off the skin. I pour it on the exposed area let it sit for 5 minutes then rinse with COLD water do not rub the area or use soap. This works well most of the time. Just don't smoke while using this. Hope this helps you. It has saved my bacon more then once.
  3. Just my thoughts. 1.Location The cooler the spot the better the cache. A easy hide in a place that is nice to visit to me is better then a great hide in poor location. 2. Some of my hides are for kids and new cachers so they are not real hard but I do try to put them in areas that you would not go to otherwise. (I usually cache with my kids 11,& 14 ). 3. Good Swag not McJunk. If your going to hide a treasure cache make it good and check it ofter. Wet logs , pens that won,t write and trash in and around the cache suck. Geocaching is only as much fun as the people that cache. Stuffed shirts usualy have plain jane caches and NuTs have the strange ones
  4. must be a full moon or somthing or someone is so full of it they can't see tanks joke I hope everyone is in a better mood after nap time....(note this IS a Joke)
  5. 8 days on my vista, 3 days on a new auto bracket for my 60c. And great tech support
  6. As long as your going to do it why not fill them with swag, a log book, and for the price you will take them out and hide them for the arm chair cacher . Now before I get yelled at. This is a joke...Ok
  7. When I had my vista up for sale I had several requests to sell it to someone overseas. Now to my thinking you should not export with out a permit from the u.s. goverment. Thought 2 why would anyone want a gps with usa maps in them???? Just a thought..
  8. The best GPS is the one that you spend y o u r money on (good or bad) and you will defend it to the end. As I have only used garmin, an etrex and a 60c I wil not compare them to another brand which I don't use. I bought both units because they fit my hand, were easy to use and loked cool. Later I found their service department was great. So thats my story. BTW this is a funny thread thanks for the

  16. For those that wish to write. Florida Division of Forestry Deleon Springs Work Center 5450 N. U.S. Highway 17 Deleon Springs Fl. 32130
  17. pepper spray??? Rattle snakes use heat to strike ,me thinks pepper spray would just p... them off and they can be mean when p... off. Think of it this way your on your beach blanket getting some sun and someone hits you with pepper spray. Just leave them alone and be on your way.
  18. I know who I just don't want to flame him soo I will chill first. I think but am not sure the overuse part had to do with damage to the area around the cache. These were easy to find and no bushwacking was needed, but you know how things happen?
  19. woops Now the Oacla National Forest which is right next door has more than 100 cache's in it. This area is also used for hunting. It is controled by the NPS. I cache there almost every weekend with my kids. I don't want to go to the big house...
  20. I have been wondering why the State of Fla. pulled 3 caches that they had placed in the Astor Fl. area so today I stoped by their office and got the answer's 1. No one in the fs to keep up the caches.(Its a manpower thing) 2. Cache areas being over used ????? 3. Someone left a bottle of alcoholic beverage in one of the cache's Now #1 I can understand with budget cut's. #2. Well you want folks to use the forest but we all should learn to leave nothing but footprints . It was the #3 that was the big problem. Now someone screwed up. They didn't read the rules for Geocachhing or the ones for the SFS. And this is the big reason that they pulled the cache's. These were cool cache's as by getting two of the three you got a free tee shirt. After talking with the SFS for a few minutes I got an application to revive one of the cache's and after they see how this works I may apply to do the other two. I will fill out the app. tonight and then see if they approve it. The Fla. rules for caches on state land are in chapter 8.6 of their rules and should be posted on line at www:fl-dof.com. Any thoughts on this ? Thanks Ralph Bongo
  21. The only down side to using a PPC is the ruggedability factor. (look ma a new word) . I have a rino case for my dell ax 5 and it does a good job for bumps and SMALL drops but its not waterproof.
  22. Most of the map programs will do that. Garmin Citys Select does and the same with Delorma TOPO. Hope this helps
  23. I had the same problem. Vista +Metroguide. BUT one look at the 60c and my checkbook was hooked. The base map sucks sooo I needed software too. I got city select $119. ouch But its good software much better then metroguide. )I used GPSnow and was happy with their service. Called me with in 15 minutes of my online order to advise that my order was being shipped. Ordered at 5:15 pm est. Arrived the next day at 10:45 Am. Yes I did the overnight thing. Price of the 60c $357.00 less $50.00 rebate from Garmin. Also got the mounting bracked for the truck and DC power cord. On a 1 to 10 scale GPSnow gets a 9.9. I will use them again when needed. BTW you will love the 60c Hope this helps
