Thank you for Geocaching
DodgeExplorer replied to TheLoneGrangers's topic in General geocaching topics
Hi TheLoneGrangers, its nice to read that your marriage is improving, life just seems so busy at times, sometimes you forget the important things in life. My wife and I enjoy caching together, it gets us away from our busy lives and gives us some time to relax together, enjoying a great hobby. Oh by the way, congratulations on buying the Jeep, we have a lot of fun in ours -
Have you every had that one special cache that sticks in your mind. We went out and found Mr. Happy GC4D8C today, it had been on our "to do list" since 2009. The cache was hidden on Dec. 25, 2001, down an old logging road, next to a beautiful lake. The cache was soaked, the notebook was wet and moldy, and the whole cache had a bad smell to it. We did not have our repair bag with us so we could not fix anything,so we posted a needs maintenance log. Well 6 hours later and Mr Happy is still bugging me, I sent an email to the owner to see if I can repair the cache for them. The cache is 60 miles away and all I want to do is go back there and make Mr. Happy, happy again. . I have no idea why this is "The One Special Cache", but for some reason for me it is.

So, What caching gear did Santa bring you?
DodgeExplorer replied to coman123's topic in General geocaching topics
Santa brought me a Jeep Wrangler so I can chase down the rough terrain caches. -
We did a small power trail, a few weeks back, achived 107 caches in a day, have to say it was the most fun we have had since geocaching. We saw some really unique areas, the pace was fast, the heart was racing, it was a great geocaching marathon.

We have decals on both our geocaching vehicles, last week we bought t-shirts with geocaching symbols and our geocaching name, the kids just love them, they even wear them to school.

What is the appeal of geocaching
DodgeExplorer replied to GPS-John's topic in General geocaching topics
We were looking at GPS units to help us with our ongoing fascination with discovering gold in our local rivers, when we discovered geocaching. -
Have you lost anything while caching?
DodgeExplorer replied to DodgeExplorer's topic in General geocaching topics
I was out caching with my wife today and she was finding everything, I took her back to where I lost the phone and within 3 minutes of searching she found the phone about 30 feet down from the cache, two feet in the water. I'll have to take it apart and dry it out, you never know it might still work. -
We were out caching near a creek yesterday, I was trying out the blackberry for caching and it worked quite well, until we got back to the truck and realized oh no the blackberry was not with me, we backtracked the 200 feet to the creek and tried to phone the blackberry with another phone but it rang twice and then went to a voice message that said the phone was out of the service area. We checked the creek for awhile but it was quite deep and flowing fast, my sister looks at me and says, at least you found the cache.

I just spent two hours moving snow and cutting trees that had fallen across the road to rescue a jeep TB up in the hills, I placed the TB in a new cache along the way but I misplaced the paper with the tag Number, oh well , at least when I go back to get the tag #, it will be a little easier now

DodgeExplorer replied to Steve-e-b's topic in General geocaching topics
The same thing has been going on around here, within days of geocoins being dropped off, they disappear, we've lost two of our own in the last month alone Hmmm, maybe a geocoin with a tracking device?? -

When you are putting in the coordinates for a new cache location using the online form, there is a button that says show on map, does anyone know where to go to view this.
