  1. 1. Did you file a police report? 2. Did you give the serial number to the officer?
  2. Ok, I took the plunge, and it worked fine for me, I too had some hangups on step 7. I didn't have updater on the computer I was using, so I d/l it, and then tried again. It worked flawlessly, and my 550t seems to be working fine. In fact, none of the small issues I have had in the past. I can't wait to try out the multi caching feature!
  3. No cop worth his salt would tackle someone standing near a body of water... Why go to jail cold and wet? That was the point that smelled fishy to me!
  4. Thanks for all the info, guys!
  5. I'm new to this geocoin thing. I recently picked up an unactivated geo tag as an FTF prize. I kind of want to hold onto it, and I was wondering, is there any point in activating it if I keep it? What can I do with it if I activate it and then hold on to it? I have noticed that some people have personal coins that they drop and retireve from caches, what is that all about? Thanks
  6. Does averaging a waypoint increase the accuracy of a location?
  7. I'd say this is the ultimate cache container...probably rated a 10/10!
  8. Thanks guys...I think I'm looking for one, and on one attempt today, I probably pulled the darn thing out the hole without looking at it closer so I wouldn't draw too much attention!!! It's in an extremely busy area. Thanks again!
  9. Does anyone have pictures of the rebar container that was discussed a while back in here? It's no longer pictured on e-bay. Thanks
  10. Cat's right, always assume the gun is loaded. An unloaded gun is the most dangerous. In the case of my cache in the distroyed elecrtical box, the trigger, firing pin, cylinder, hammer, sights, bullets, gun powder, primer, blueing, hand grip, and all the guts were missing, rusted up and gone forever. That's right, people shoot themselves "cleaning their guns" all the time ...What's the first step in cleaning your weapon? UNLOAD IT!
  11. Yeah, that one looked dangerous until the hider said that it was hidden in an antique submarine motor that was inert and on display at a museum...and it was archived after it had been muggled twice!
  12. Actually there had been a road there years before and it was turned into a park and that part was left undeveloped and got reclaimed by Mother Earth. (The chiiiiildren thing was facetious) FWIW I could see your tounge firmly implanted in your cheek on that one!
  13. Or maybe because the speed limit sign was stolen property!!!
  14. Well the reviewer in question was dead wrong in all respects. He didn't even respond to an apeal and I don't have information on who to go to over his head. The pictures are posted on this forum that prove that this cache was 100% safe. It was even safer than many fake electical boxes because there was no electical power in the vicinity. Plus the cache container itself was visible, in the open and obvious. The whole thing has got me so angry and upset that I'm tempted to archive all the caches I've set. I was suppose to go on a long distance caching trek tomorrow and Saturday to get my 700 but I'm not going. It's just not worth it and I've lost the motivation. I went on a long distance hunt last weekend and got all of three caches before loosing motivation because I was thinking about the problem. I understand your frustration, and I very well might feel the same way if I were in your shoes, but stop and think. Archiving all your caches would just ruin it for everyone else, and not going on your trip just leaves you more time to sit and home and stew about the situation. Does it suck? Yeah, it sucks big time, but don't make it worse by doing what you're thinking of doing. Not a sermon, just a thought.
  15. Well, after some tinkering, it worked. I was trying to install the software without the unit connected to the computer, and then when I connected it and enabled the USB mass storage, it worked, and it's installed on my compter now too. I have yet to understand the usefulness of this program to me though. If anyone could 'splain that too me, that would be great too! Thanks for the replies.
  16. I found the one on the transformer box that I was hunting for and it was a great hide. I don't really think there's any danger here. You don't get much closer to the box by finding the hide as you would if you were a shopper parking next to it, and getting out of your car. There are parking spaces right next to the darn thing, and you might even brush up against it getting to and from your car. If these things were a ticking time bomb, I would hope that that retailers would put them in safer places. You can also find these things on a smaller scale all over residential neighborhoods, and yes, from time to time they do go boom, but you don't hear many stories of innocent bystanders being hurt or killed by them. Anyhoodles, everyone be safe out there and enjoy the hunt.
  17. I was thrilled to get my 60cx today, but I can't load the Trip & Waypoint Manager because my computer's hard drive is not C:. I can't see any way to change the sttings on the wizard. An error message instantly pops up, and it cancels the install. I'd appreciate anyone who could help me out. Thanks! Now I'm really frustrated. I just tried to d/l the communicator and that doesn't work either. Please Help!!!
  18. I was looking for hints on a cache that's hidden on one of these things and stumbled on it.
  19. I have been using my Tom Tom ONE LE, and when I get close, I use the "Browse map" screen, and zoom it all the way in. Then walk towards the cursor.
  20. I would recommend that you bring it with your carry on luggage, or bring it on your person. I did it once, didn't have a problem
  21. yes and no. Members have convenience features When you download a loc (nonmember format) file you get the basic information of the cache, when you download as a member you have the option of gpx format which has more detail per cache in that given info file. Additionally as a non member if you choose "hide & seek a cache" from any of the geocaching.com pages you are taken to a form to selct your search area, whether you area member or not, then results are displayed in a 10-12 cache per page format. You then can get an loc file for each page to download when you select download waypoints at the bottom of the page. You then have to do this for every page listed until you get all your desired cache listings downloaded then you can always save each cache page to your computer and have the logs that way. As a member you can do that same thing in one shot as a what is called a pocket query and ask for up to 500 separate cache locations in one file as a gpx. Being a member also helps offset the cost of the site maintenance and bandwidth of geocaching.com. Just like you pay for your internet the folks that maintain geocaching.com have to pay for their's as well Thanks for helpin' a noob out here. I'm familiar with the operation of the site, I'm new to d/l caches to a GPS unit. I just ordered one, and I can't wait to start using this feature. I was waiting to become a premium member until I was more experienced, but since it's such a minimal fee, I might just spring for it.
