  1. Got this nice little unit about 3 months ago and have since purchased the 60 csx which is better for me. The unit has been used a grand total of 3 times geocaching and is in brand new condition with no scratches or signs of use. The bundle will include topo 2008,vista hcx unit,128 mb sd card, transfer cable, lanyard,documents/manuals, protective carry case, and as a bonus i'll throw in a 2gb sd card which i will load with your region before shipment if requested. Paid 349.00 for the bundle minus the 2gb card from cabelas, id be happy to get 240.00 for it. Offers are welcome of course! I will upload pictures if requested.
  2. Has anyone used it? Or can someone provide some feedback on it? The reviews i have read are a bit shady to say the least.
  3. Im looking for a moderately difficult to difficult hiking trail in North Ga other than the Duncan Trail that i might be able to do in a days hike. I enjoyed Yonah today, i would like to take it up another notch however.
  4. I was browsing at the National Geographic Topo Software today at Bass Pro and as far as looks go, it looks great. It says on the box that it is compatible with "most" garmin units and claims to have the most detail of all the topo software currently available. Don't they all? Anyways i was just wondering if anyone has played around with it ,and if its any better than topo 2008.
  5. I have Topo 2008 and its ok however it seems inferior to the Delorme Topo 7 software that my cousin has. I was curious to know if there are any other software manufacturers that have a better topo mapset than that of Garmins that are compatible.
  6. Kind of hard to help without any info as to what she is looking for in a gpsr. I have the 60csx and can say it is a great unit, it has a good chip and can aquire a signal where my other units can't. The color screen is bright and very visible in most light conditions, it is also very good on power use so the batteries last quite a while. So for me I vote on the 60csx. it would be mostly for hiking and geocaching. She really cares mostly about accuracy and reliability though.
  7. My wife has ask me to get the assistance from the forums to pick her first gps unit. Thank you to all who responded to previous post, however it made it harder for her to decide because of the pros and cons of each. She wants one of the two units listed above and will pick the one which gets the most votes for the better unit. PLEASE GET HER OFF MY BACK SHES DRIVING ME CRAZY!
  8. Just curious if you have compiled Ga yet? Also im new to mapping software, how does this compare to mapsource stuff?
  9. I have heard that the Vista Hcx uses a chipset from the company Microtek, and i know that the 60CSx uses the SirfIII. Can anyone provide any technical info in regards to which one is better or if they are pretty much the same. I already have a Vista HCx but im making a purchase for the wife next and i want to get her the best of the two. I finally ruled out the Delorme after reading all the negative reviews. If this has already been discussed im sorry, i know a lot of these topics get beat to death!
  10. I just bought the Garmin Vista HCx and i absolutely love it. My wife is wanting to go geocaching with me now that we have done it a few times but i wanted to get her a unit of her own. I was reading reviews regarding the Delorme Earthmate and they are mixed to say the least. Has anyone used one personally who can provide some feedback? I am just curious how it stacks against the Garmin Units and if i would be better off just buying another HCx as it is awsome!
  11. Well im going to place my first cache this weekend somewhere in the North Georgia Mtns. I just want to get clarification that state parks are o.k in Georgia as long as you check with the local Ranger Office. The place where i would like to hide it may be just inside the Chattahoochie National Forest System which i understand is off limits completely,or so i have heard rather. Just need some pointers to get me started in the right direction.
  12. Two other small questions, is topo 2008 software pretty decent, and are there any other software packages that you all would reccomend in opposition that are compatible?
  13. Well i've gotta say i definately feel better about my purchase after all the helpful feedback, so thanks to all who replied. Just did a comparison online at Garmin.com and did not realise until now that yes you are all correct that the 60csx and hcx have all the same features say for the size, tide charts, battery life, and connections. Ill be lost for a while as the 60csx was feature packed, but on the flipside im the kinda guy who puts stuff together and has a few extra screws laying around. I guess i should read the manual! Thanks again!
  14. As stated above i just dropped 349.99 on the Garmin Vista Hcx Model bundled with topo 2008,carry case, etc etc. Being new to GPS im starting to second guess my purchase based on a select few reviews that i have read on this model and its inadequicies (spelled wrong i know). Just wanted to get some info from first hand users as there seem to be a few on here. I'll be using it for off roading, hiking, and once i completely figure it out geocaching in the North Georgia Mountain area. I tend to go off the beaten path in search of new and exciting places so my main concern is gonna be satellite aquisition. I had a Garmin 60csx for a short while but i rid of it due to its ungodly size and too many features i figured id never use, kinda now regret it partly due to it being hailed as one of the best. My cousins Delorme Earthmate is pretty sweet too but i have heard the chipset is not that great. Just looking for reassurance in short, and i look forward to getting to geocaching here soon! Any response would be awsome!
